(a) Household apparatus and utensils (i) Household apparatus and utensils such as kettle, pot and pan have handle made of material with high specific heat capacity. These material are able to absorb large amount of heat with a small temperature increase. Therefore the handle do not heat up easily. (ii) Material with low specific heat capacity are used to produce pot and pan because they are able to heat up quickly.

(b) Sea breeze (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) During the day, the land is hotter than the sea because the specific heat capacity of land is lower than the specific heat capacity of sea The hot air move up from the land. Cool air blows from the sea to replace the space left by the hot air (c) Land breeze During the night, the sea is hotter than the land because the specific heat capacity of sea is higher than the specific heat capacity of land The hot air move up from the sea. Cool air blows from the land to replace the space left by the hot air

The liquid start to boil. Latent heat of vaporisation is absorbed to break the forces of attraction between the molecules and also to do work against the external atmospheric pressure. The kinetic energy does Time not increase. Therefore the

temperature remains constant.

(c) Solidification Temperature

The liquid start to freeze / solidify. Latent heat of fusion is released and the molecular bonds between

molecules reform. The kinetic energy and temperature do not increase Time

(d) Condensation Temperature Latent heat of vaporisation is released and the molecule are not able to overcome the forces of attraction and atmospheric pressure. The kinetic energy increase Time and temperature do not
