Manipal Institute of Technology Manipal Institute of Technology offers an unparalleled range of opportunities letting you to realize your interests

and decide the profession which is best for you. The institute is offering 16 under graduate programs. Some of the branches offered by them are BTech in Information technology, BTech in biotechnology engineering and BTech in Mechanical engineering. Information technology is almost similar to computer science. This is a branch of engineering which has enormous job opportunities. For controlling, gathering, storing and circulating information it concentrates on the study of utilizing computers and telecommunication. It is connected with the effective use of already available software and hardware. There are lucrative careers in this field for people who can market, develop or upgrade software and its related requirements. If you are interested in programming and coding this is the right branch for you. Biotechnology Course is a flourishing field with enormous job openings. It caters to the industrial sector such as food and beverages industry, textiles industry, biological products, medicines and pharmaceuticals. On the other hand this branch of science caters to the requirements of agriculture, animal husbandry, nutrition and environmental conservation. The name gives the hint that this branch of science is steeped in Biology but apart from that it also deals with subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics. Engineering applications are also an important part of biotechnology. Biotechnology covers a vast array of disciplines because of their technical and procedural applications. The professionals engaged in biotechnology are concerned with research and development works in different laboratories. Mechanical engineering is the oldest and most comprehensive branch of engineering. It can also be termed as the mother of all branches. It applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. A clear understanding of the concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science and structural science is needed. The areas of study includes Manufacturing processes, Mechanical vibrations, Mechatronics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Tool Engineering and Design, Design of machine elements, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Robotics. Biomedical Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field in which the principles of engineering are applied to solving problems in medicine and life sciences.

The department aims at bringing about an overall enhancement in healthcare. The Biomedical Engineering Programme aims to develop, in the student, a strong capacity to understand and design diagnostic & monitoring equipments, life-supporting devices, rehabilitation-equipment and software to support analysis of/ diagnosis from physiological & clinical data, as well as healthcare-management, by incorporating knowledge from both the engineering and medical domains.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in the year 1992. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, accredited by the NBA, AICTE, for 5 years and 3 years, respectively. It also supports research programmes. While the students at the department are trained to be engineers with a strong mathematical background, they have the privilege of learning many clinical subjects through members of the faculty from various departments of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The department provides a variety of modern facilities to help the students acquire an in-depth technical knowledge in the field. Currently, it has two laboratories, one involving computing and the other dedicated to biomedical instrumentation. In addition, a Research Laboratory is being planned. The Department of Civil Engineering has thirty six faculty members and eleven laboratory personnel. The department has eleven well-equipped laboratories meeting the requirements of under-graduate and post-graduate courses in Civil Engineering, Research and Consultancy. The Department of Civil Engineering offers one undergraduate program B.Tech. in Civil Engineering and three post graduate programmes M.Tech. in Structural Engineering, M.Tech. in Construction Engineering & Management and M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering. The curriculum of B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) is developed in such a way that the students are given exposer to the different areas of Civil Engineering like Structural Engineering, Environmental Engg., Geotechnical Engg., Water Resources Engg., Transportation Engg. etc. so that the students can develop and diversify themselves in their respective area of interest. The M.Tech. Structural Engg. trains the students in the area of Structural analysis and design which makes them capable to take up challenging works as Structural Engineers where as the M.Tech. Construction Engg. and Management grooms the students more into Managerial skills making them suitable to take up careers like Project Managers. The M.Tech. Environmental

Engg. students study water and airpollution control, recycling, waste disposal, occupational safety and health issues. It trains them to conduct hazardous waste management studies in which they evaluate the significance of the hazardous, advice on its treatment and develop management plans to prevent mishaps. They are also trained to design water supply and Industrial waste water treatment system.
