A proverb is something that is rhetorical, and means something deeper than what it says.

Some proverbs include:


"Love conquers all" - Love can transcend all difficulties and problems "The heart that loves is always young" - Love keeps a person mentally sharp and devoted "Desperate times call for desperate measures" - More difficult problems need more complex solutions. "Blood is thicker than water"- Family connections are worth more than friendship. "The early birds catches the worm" - Advantage goes to the first person who arrives. "Actions speak louder than words" - A person's will and intent are better understood by what he does (which is an honest historical account) than his words (which may be empty). "All's well that ends well" - A successful resolution makes the previous circumstances irrelevant. "April showers bring May flowers" - What seems undesirable today brings positive outcomes later. Also there is the literal meaning. "Beggars can't be choosers" - When you don't have much, take what you are given. "Better late than never" - It's better for someone to show up late or in less than perfect condition than to just avoid a situation. "Better safe than sorry" - Take caution. "Truth is stranger than fiction" - Literal meaning. Real history is very odd. "Whatever will be, will be" - Don't plan for the future, but adapt as it comes. "Where there's a will, there's a way" - If you persevere, you can achieve. "One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel" - One bad person in a group spoils how others see the group. "Barking dogs seldom bite" - People who make a lot of noise are usually full of fluff. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" - Do not betray a woman because they can be vindictive. "A penny saved is a penny earned" - Not spending preserves more money for future use. "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" - Handle money well. "Haste makes waste" - Doing things quickly often results in inadequacy.
