Gospel (Luke 10:21-24)
"At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the
holy Spirit and said, "I give you praise,
Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for
although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned you have
revealed them to the childlike. Yes,
Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me
by my Father. No one knows who the
Son is except the Father, and who the
Father is except the Son and anyone to
whom the Son wishes to reveal him."
Turning to the disciples in private he
said, "Blessed are the eyes that see
what you see. For I say to you, many
prophets and kings desired to see what
you see, but did not see it, and to hear
what you hear, but did not hear it."
This is the truth. Peace be with you.
General Superior Letter
Dear Parishionners,
It is a great pleasure to celebrate with you all on the occasion of
the 30th anniversary of the foundation of our parish, Our Lady of
Lebanon in Toronto. Times passes by, but what remains in our
hearts and memories is the commitment and dedication of our
Antonin priests, by whose succession have served the people of
faith by constantly listening to the word of God and by their
loving presence served our Lebanese brothers in Ontario and to
others from Arabic speaking communities.
Over the last thirty years many individuals have joined our parish and have contributed
greatly from their individual sacrifice, presence, devotion and of voluntary donations.
We present these individuals to our Lord to be a shining light wherever they settle.
We cannot sufficiently thank all those who participated in the foundation and the service
of our parish. Our presence today is the fruit of their good work, and a demonstration
of the good and benevolently inspired Maronites and Eastern people who joined us in
our faithful pilgrimage.
In the early days, we all came seeking a place in a new society; a place in a society of
customs and priorities different from those we grew up with. We went along, and
together faced the ultimate challenges and financial difficulties before a clearer vision
was formulated. We struggled to renew our mission in the new world which hosted and
welcomed us. At the time when Lebanese were arriving in numbers seeking a better
future for their families, and working very hard to insure a reasonable standard of living
for them, the Antonins rushed to assist; buying a new church, which became a refuge
for many people who came to a new country with no relatives or place to go. It
became a sanctuary of prayer, a meeting place for all previous and new emigrants to
the new world and a second home to us all.
Since the beginning, our concern was for the people and not for worldly things. The
priests who served the community worked their hardest to strengthen the faith, to
increase hope, and to enrich our oriental roots and habits; authentic habits and
customs.
As in our personal lives, the churchs responsibilities and obligations have increased and
diversified. The growth of our children forces us to follow them and to pave the road
for them, to enlighten and guide them. The same applies to the church which aims to
cope with the new demands of the immigrant community, who are becoming citizens.
All the while, the church maintains and instills the Maronite spirit and the expression of
the eastern faith which enriched it. And while enriching other ethnic groups also,
together we became the new Canadian people.
Therefore, as Maronites we are impassioned to maintain our good principles in our new
society; not to be isolated from, but to breathe new life into it. We are obligated to
enrich this society that has hosted and welcomed us, and gave us the foundation for
growth and a bright future.
In welcoming the new Monsignor Paul Marwan Tabet in Canada, we must renew our
efforts in support and encouragement of one another. Let us nourish our own spiritual
and moral personalities to create a strong community to allow us distinguished
expression in this civilized country.
Let us put past difficulties behind along with undesired obstacles, and let us march as in
the Pentecostal time; time when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, and on the
church. Let us listen to Gods inspiration through our priests, and let us march together
to cultivate ourselves according to the image of Christ, which, in spite of the signs of
pain, resurrected to a new life, renewing our spirit. Jesus is still calling us to the
resurrection, and to fertile fields to spread his word and name to the world. Brothers,
come to Gods field, merge with his spirit, and transform our intentions into deeds which
will sow peace in each individual, in society and in the church.

Your blessings Father
Brothers and sisters,
Among human beings, who knows what pertains to a person except the spirit of the person
that is within? Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. We
have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may
understand the things freely given us by God. And we speak about them not with words
taught by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing spiritual realities
in spiritual terms. Now the natural person does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of
God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged
spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can judge everything but is not subject to
judgment by anyone. For "who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?" But
we have the mind of Christ.
Praise be to God always.
