SUDOKU OBJECTIVE Sudoku ( sdoku?, ) i/sudoku/soo-DOH-koo is a logic-based,[1][2] combinatorial number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 99 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 33 sub-grids that compose the grid (also called "boxes", "blocks", "regions", or "subsquares") contains all of the digits from 1 to 9. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid, which typically has a unique solution. Completed puzzles are always a type of Latin square with an additional constraint on the contents of individual regions. For example, the same single integer may not appear twice in the same 99 playing board row or column or in any of the nine 33 subregions of the 99 playing board. SUDOKU MECHANICS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Participants are registered in the 2013 Mathlympics and MTAP Division Orals. The game involves the Grade 1-6 pupils from each district. The game will be divided into six levels. One level for every grade. Each district will have only one (1) participant per grade level. The district mathematics coordinator will be given a free hand on how to select their representative. Sudoku cards have corresponding levels of difficulty for each grade level. The first participant in every level to complete correctly the puzzle will be the winner of the game. Time is set for the players to finish the game. To win, you have to put a number from 1 to 9 in each square so that: a. Every horizontal row and vertical column contains all nine numerals (1-9) without repeating any of them; b. Each of the 3x3 boxes has all nine numerals none repeated; c. Both of the orange diagonals that form the x have all nine numerals, none repeated; The players should finish within 20 minutes. The first to finish within the given time wins the game (The team who finishes first will step forward and will be declared winner.).

2013 MATHLYMPICS Anini-y Central School February 7-9, 2013 CROSS-NUMBER PUZZLE Overview: A cross-number puzzle looks like a crossword puzzle, but has numbers instead of words in a grid. The cross-number solver can find all possibilities of filling the grid with numbers in a way that all statements about these numbers are true. The cross-number puzzle replaces the words in a crossword with numeric digits, and math equations replace the word hints. Puzzles give permission not to know the answer or method before starting. Students build stamina and confidence for problem solving by playing with puzzles. They are genuine problems to solve -- true to real life -- not exercises in following a rule or template.
Edukasyon: Agud ang Handum kang Batang Antiqueo Maagum

They allow high cognitive demand with flexible prerequisite math knowledge. They give plentiful skill practice while allowing the mind to engage: drill and thrill, not drill and kill. They exercise important habits of mind: experimenting, juggling multiple constraints They engage the intellect. They are fun. Puzzles also provide a perfect way to differentiate learning.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Open to all participating districts in the Division of Antique. 2. One (1) contestant in every grade level will represent the district to play the game. 3. The game will be played simultaneously from grades 1 to 6.
