Hi I'm Lawrence! I'm a second year Chemistry student.

I have been a general member during my first year and I am currently treasurer of the committee this year. Now Im looking for your vote to tackle the challenge of being one of next years co-chairs! As a general member, I helped run campaigns for LGBT*Q history month and IDAHO, attended socials such as the weekly tea and joined weekly committee meetings. As a general member, I learnt the importance of time management and organisation, whilst also being adaptable in my role on committee. As your treasurer this year, Ive balanced both our fund raising account and our grant account, whilst accommodating our social and campaign events such as our Love Music Hate Homophobia gig and sending our delegates to NUS LGBT conference.

As co-chair, it would be my duty to: Direct, co-ordinate and support the rest of the committee in all their campaigns, welfare events and socials in addition to any other activities. To always work with the aim of improving an already great association for the benefit of our members.

I believe welfare is possibly the associations most significant aspect, and as such would like to help facilitate events such as: A workshop, as early in the new University year as possible to focus on issues such as coming out and sexual health for current members and in particular freshers. Ensure the proliferation of safe sex information within and beyond the association to help compensate for the poor same-sex sexual health education many receive before University.

Id also love to help accommodate many campaigns in order to raise awareness of LGBT*Q issues, such as: Working closely with the student Union to tackle homophobia on campus such as in the O2 in order to try and expand to concept of the safe space we currently run in the common room. Seek to raise further awareness of the issues of bi and transphobia, both within and beyond the society. I would seek to do this by working closely with our Campaigns officer in addition to our Equalities of Gender & sexual orientation.

Lastly, Id like to continue with the associations awesome heritage of fantastic social events (many of which you may have already seen me on) by: Continuing our massive and successful nights out to the gay scenes in other cities. Continuing to promote alternative bar crawls to LGBT*Q friendly venues in order to ensure we arent always visiting the same few bars. Carrying on our regular socials to Leicester local gay scene. Seeking to expand the associations outreach to both more socieities within the Union and other LGBT*Q associations within the region in order to ensure even bigger and better nights out by supporting our future social officer wherever possible.

Thank you for reading my manifesto for the position of Co-Chair.

If you believe I am the ideal candidate, please VOTE LAWRENCE HOLMES FOR CO-CHAIR.

All are encouraged and welcomed to email me regarding my manifesto at lnh3@le.ac.uk.
