Reflective writing Nº1: The school

1.- For me it is quite clear the difference between a private school, which I am attending in this
VISE 2 and a non private school. Therefore I can, with those two different kind of schools and
educations , give my own vision and perception about my teaching practice, up to now.
It is very clear that the school that I am attending is more suitable for a good learning process
and it is mainly due to the fact that the students who go there are more privilege than others. This
social and economical make a difference in term of the learning abilities and social behavior
between the children and also between the students and the teacher. The reality is that those
children, unlike the ones who attend a non privilege school, can see themselves going to college
and they can see themselves as future professionals in any area and that is just because they can
afford it. So their behavior in the classroom may not always be the best but they tend to be more
respectful of their pears and the teachers and other authority figures. It is also fair to say that
many of those “privilege” children don´t have the same problems that the students who are in
disadvantaged school. I´m talking about family problems, economical problems and even
problems with violence and delinquency. I am not saying that the students who go to a private
school don´t have family issues or other kind of problems, in fact they do, but they have access
to address those problems with professional help.

2.– The issues that I addressed in the task Nº 1 were mainly communication problems and I
think that the school were I´m doing my VISE 2 is prepared to deal with those problems. They
have the tools necessary to confront any sort of issues that a child or a teenager might have, but
even though this school is, as I mentioned before, a privilege one, sometimes there are problems
that can affect us all and they affect all levels of society, specially teenagers. I´m talking about,
psychological issues like for instance, bulimia, anorexia, sexual identity, cutting, etc.
Those are the problems that should be addressed in schools and the lack of communication is far
worse than to give a child a weapon.
Now, one may wander how is this connected with the learning process. I would like to say that
everything is connected and intertwine, so in order to have a good learning process, the root of
all teachers abilities must be a communication skill, that is far more important than the grades,
the evaluation process and the material that you´re working with. I´m not saying that those items
are not important but they must be a tool to reach each and everyone of the students.
