Audience Research

Age: 18 25 I have found it hard to specify on my target audience age on my mockumentary. Purely because anyone with a sense of humour but also an interest in mockumentarys, and a regular channel 4 viewer, could watch my production. After my feedback I have decided to put my mockumentary past water shed only because some of the scenes I am considering filming are not for the eyes of people under 18. I came to a decision with 18 - 25 because whenever Ive watched a mockumentary its been with people my age and above and we have all enjoyed it. Using channel 4 as my broadcaster I also had to take their permanent audience to account but my target audience and their target audience are similar therefore broadcasting on channel 4 will be good for my mockumentary. Gender: Both When it comes to gender I have decided to target it to both genders because I dont want females to feel like they arent allowed to watch it. Although it is a bunch of boys on the island and its all male banter etc. But I feel that I can bring across a sense of sentimental value to attract the female side of my audience. I will do this by showing hierarchy and social status within the tribe so my audience can start to have feelings for my characters. Also channel 4 isnt a male programme it displays a variety of mix gendered programmes and I dont want to change that. Socio-economic The socio-economic status of my target audience isnt necessary. When it comes to income and welfare I can specify my production on the rich or the poor. So my production is open to anyone that wants to watch it. It only matters if there is or isnt a TV where they live. My ideal target audience though would be middle class old family or couple living on a residential road, with both or one parent with a job earning an average income. But I dont want to focus on this audience because they may not watch after 9 and they may not like my programme. So opening it to anyone and having a wide target audience when it comes to their socio-economic will increase my views. Demographics My target demographics arent specific except the age. This is because I dont want to exclude anyone from the programme but also when it comes to demographics it is hard to specify on a certain type of person only because demographics come from a census which is a collection of the demographic factors associated with every member of a population. My programme isnt going to specify in religion or gender nor income levels or educational level purely because I dont want to turn my possible viewers away. I want to keep my production mutual and equal to everyone watching to satisfy them but also to not make them feel insecure with the programme they are watching.
