Announcements and Reminders:

Ÿ NOW IS THE TIME TO RECRUIT NEW STUDENTS AND TALK ABOUT THE
ATHENEUM SCHOOL! PTSA’s focus for May is to recruit new students! Invite
friends to the Atheneum Open Houses. We have three introductory open houses scheduled
for May:
Monday May 11, 7:00pm
Monday May 18 7:00pm
Wednesday May 20 7:00pm

Ÿ Keenan Troll, 11 grade, has met the requirements to enter the 2010 to enter the
th

National Merit Scholarship Program. The selection is based on the scores he received on
the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Program. He is among the 50,000 highest-
scoring partic ipants of 1.5 million entrants. Congratulations Keenan!
Ÿ For her senior community volunteer project, Janelle Coy, 12th grade, is running the
BMO Bank of Montreal Marathon in Vancouver, Canada next week. As a member of
the Washington/Alaska Chapter Team in Training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society. To date, Janelle has raised over $4000.00 to benefit this society and run the 26 mile
marathon. Way to go Janelle! We are proud of you and wish you the best run ever.
Ÿ Our 14 annual Marine Biology Trip to Seward and Homer is May 5-9. The Marine
th

Biology packet of information went home with students on Friday, April 24. This included a
schedule, permission slips and gear list. Seniors groups are being organized this week. We
still need parents to help and come with us on this year’s trip! Please let us know in
the office if you can help, drive or chaperon!
Ÿ The end of the year PTSA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00pm. At
this meeting we will talk about next year’s plans and calendar.
Ÿ The date for the Public Senior Oral Exam and Visual Essay Presentation has been
changed to Thursday, May 14 at 12:10pm. The seniors will be having their dinner with the
faculty that same evening at 7:00pm (place TBA).
Ÿ Our All School Prom to honor the seniors is being hosted by the junior class. It is scheduled
for May 15, Friday from 8:00-11:00pm at the school. We need parents to help with set-
up, chaperoning and clean-up! If you can help, lease let Caitlyn Pickett-Bowles (junior) know
by leaving a message for her in the office.
Ÿ Graduation ceremonies will be held for our tenth class of seniors on Tuesday, May
19 at 1:00pm. Invitations are made and will be sent this week! We hope that everyone can
attend.
Ÿ End of year picnic and talent show is on Wednesday May 20. This is a family event that
begins with the picnic and is concluded with our talent show! Stay tuned for details.
