The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition disagrees with the Election Commission's (EC) decision to ban the setting up of "pondok panas" or voter reference stations outside polling centers. PR explained to the EC last week that support groups did not cause problems during past by-elections and the EC had agreed processes were smooth. However, the EC still imposed the ban without reasonable explanation. PR vice president R. Sivarasa said the ban goes against the law which allows campaigning and voter checking within 50m of polling centers. Meanwhile, the MCA supported the ban as it could reduce tensions, and said voters should have made decisions before voting.
