afternoon and answered questions about the Little Free Library at the site. Im guessing that as a vision for the future we can have a lot of these, Granke said. Cowan said the idea for a Little Free Library at Old Falls Village was in limbo until the death of Stacy. Susan Sterman CNA 262-224-0484 Randy Sterman 262-224-2903

Dear Dr. Winter, I have had a gold crown for 30 years in my back bottom molar and it now has a little worn away spot on the top of it. The tooth underneath does not have a root canal, should I get it repaired (gold foiling) or do I have to get a whole new crown. The dentist seems to think he can foil it, what should I do? Dear Mary Ann, the fact that your dentist does gold foils tells me he is an older dentist that has the skill to place a nice small gold restoration. Most dentists today do not know how to do direct gold fillings anymore as it is no longer taught in dental school. If the price is reasonable you could do a repair but if they feel the crown needs to be replaced then you may want to consider that. Chances are a meticulous dentist that offers gold fillings would not suggest that restoration unless the rest of the crown margins, contours and occlusion were good. Go for the gold! It's better than plugging it with Silver. Dear Dr. Winter, I understand that deep cleanings can close or reduce the gaps in one's gum line. Is the gap improved because the gums shrink up (thereby exposing more tooth)? Or is the gap improved because the gum now adheres to the cleaned tooth surface? Dear Sue, Deep cleanings allow for bacterial removal, biofilm removal, soft tissue healing and shrinkage of inflamed tissues. These tissues with their attachment apparatus will attach to the healthy root surface where the surface of the root is clean, healthy and free of restorations. It will not prevent gaps of any type. Tissues that are puffy may shrink to acceptable levels but in general tissues that have receded due to bone loss and tissue migration will not come all the way back if there has been underlying bony destruction. Dear Dr. Winter, I have top and bottom dentures that are held in with implants. I have 2 implants for the top and 2 implants for the bottoms. The top denture has cracked 3 times and has been repaired at a cost of almost $300 each time. The dentist blames my bite for them cracking and says the only way to correct the problem is to put more implants in on top and a new denture to correct the bite. What do you

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

think? I cant afford these repairs! Dear Dave, your dentist is correct. Two implants is never advised to support an upper denture. You need additional implants for support and probably a metal reinforced implant overdenture. Upper dentures cover the entire palate and whenever you chew it creates spreading forces that will lead to cracks down the middle of the denture. Having two implants leads to rocking. If you draw a line across the two implants its like a teeter tater where the denture can rock forward and backward over this pivot line. KIDS from Wisconsin at Schauer Center June 27

KIDS from Wisconsin will bring their high-energy show to the Schauer Arts & Activities Center in Hartford on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. As the states official musical ambassadors of goodwill, KIDS from Wisconsin has delighted audiences across the country. From their vocal and instrumental talent, to the stunning choreography and costumes, KIDS continues to be one of the Midwests most popular youth music groups. Performing a mixture of disco, Broadway, movie music, and jazz, their 2013 I Got the Music in Me tour features 21 singer/dancers and a 12-piece show. The KIDS from Wisconsin program was developed in 1969 under the sponsorship of the Wisconsin State Fair. KIDS now functions as a non-profit corporation with the Fair and InPro Corp. of Muskego as its major sponsors. Former KID Mark Dorn has served as the Producer since 1996, bringing 25 years of experience as an educator and professional musician. Choreographer Jessica Foley and Choral Director/Chief Orchestrator Taras Nahirniak help lead the artistic and tour staffs, which continue to put out fresh shows each summer. Nearly 70 shows will be performed during KIDS summer tour. Tickets to KIDS from Wisconsin are $19 for adults, $17 for students (13 and up), and $14 for children (12 and under). Tickets can be purchased at the Schauer Center Box Office Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 147 N. Falls school district officials irked over proposed state budget

BY THOMAS J. MCKILLEN MANAGING EDITOR The proposed state budget that was recently supported by the Joint Finance Committee will not address any of the four areas of concern School District of Menomonee Falls officials previously raised with local legislators, and members of the School Board arent happy about it. In correspondence to local legislators including Sen. Alberta Darling and Reps. Don Pridemore and Dan Knodl the district requested that funding in public education be tied to the rate of inflation, that financial support for charter and voucher schools should not impact the funds available for public education and that all schools receiving state aid should be held to the same accountability standards, eliminating unfunded mandates and allow districts to prioritize student programming that is valued locally with the limited dollars available and that the Fund 80 used for community recreation be allowed to fund school district athletic programs. Of the four conditions we submitted to our legislators, none have been met and vouchers have been mostly extended, Menomonee Falls Superintendent Patricia Greco said at the June 10 School Board meeting. Under the state budget, the per pupil share of state aid will increase by $150, which will result in an additional $56,000 for the Menomonee Falls district. Greco noted that if revenue limits were tied to the consumer price index, the per pupil costs would increase by $238. Board member Gina Palazzari said she supported re-issuing the letter expressing the districts concerns but also supported meeting with legislators and look them straight in the eye and ask them how they can possibly disregard our valid points of financial concern for our district. I really want them to be held accountable to answer to our faces that question. Palazzari said that the budget that came out of Joint Finance Committee was ideologically driven and indicated the expansion of voucher programs statewide was fiscally irresponsible. We all need to understand that this is part of an agenda that exists nationally and that Wisconsin has been picked specifically as a sort of a laboratory for these experiments and school privatization is at the top of that list. So we need to be aware of whats going on in this state, this opening the door to vouchers, Palazzari said. She said that by opening the door to voucher programs, the caps on the program will change for enrollment and income restrictions, because that is what has happened in the 20 years the private school voucher program has been in place in Milwaukee. When that starts happening, the momentum of that is going to cripple public schools eventually in this state unless something is done. I think we owe it to our community and to our students as a School Board to be as tough and direct with our legislators as possible, and I think its time to start holding them accountable, Palazzari said. Palazzari added that the budget that came out of the Joint Finance Committee is irresponsible and is wrong. Im really appalled that this is happening to public schools in this state. Board member Scott Ternes said its a good idea to meet with the legislators over the current budget. Im conservative, Im Republican, but some of this is not logical. I think weve got to keep pushing, Ternes said. Ternes said he will keep asking legislators questions and didnt agree with the budget. Board member Paul Tadda said he supports the voucher program as lower income residents should be able to choose where their children should be educated. However, he said he was disappointed with local legislators because the district did present their concerns over the present funding formula. Tadda noted that the $150 per pupil increase only provides the district with an additional $56,000. Thats not good local representation and that was not addressed, Tadda said. He added that the district is doing its part to be fiscally responsible and stretch every dollar. A copy of a letter that was addressed to Darling, Knodl and Pridemore and signed by all seven Menomonee Falls School Board members was sent to local media June 13. A week ago, Joint Finance Committee reviewed the education budget after (2 a.m.) and passed a budget that ignored the impact on our students. The per-pupil increase is again below the rate of inflation. Voucher schools are proposed for expansion without disclosure of impact on programming for our students. State mandates remain unfunded and required for the public schools. Fund 80 was frozen, the letter stated. Fund 80 supports the Village of Menomonee Falls Community Education and Recreation Programming for all of our community residents. The letter further stated that the legislature is preparing to pass legislation that will continue to negatively impact the taxpayers of Menomonee Falls and our students. According to information from the district, a meeting has been scheduled for June 17 that will include a few School Board members and district administrators. Knodl and Darling are expected to attend the meeting.

Track: Falls Robertson finishes career at state with triple jump record
BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR Mikayla Robertson of Menomonee Falls ended her high school athletic career by putting her name in the record book at the state track meet June 1. Robertson won the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 4 inches, a new state record. During a presentation at the Menomonee Falls School Board meeting June 10, Assistant Track Coach John Katz noted that Robertson was a qualifier in the triple jump all four years. Katz noted that the previous state record was 39-11.5. Robertson said that she and Katz set a goal for the state meet and put in the extra hours to make it possible. "We came with confidence, we did everything over and over again, watched the detailed things like when my foot hits the ground, the timing we got that all down," Robertson said. "Going into the state meet we were confident because we put in the work that was required and necessary to get first place, or do very well." Robertson added she wasn't very nervous because she had been at the meet before. She said her goal was to beat her personal record of 38-6 which she set earlier in the season. The second goal was to seek the state record. "It was kind of cool to get that on the first (jump)," Robertson said. Katz also noted several of Robertson's accomplishments this past year, which included winning the 400 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the triple jump at the Greater Metro Conference indoor meet; winning the triple jump relay at the conference relays and being part of the 4x400 team that won the conference meet; and winning the 400 meter dash and triple jump at the conference meet. Katz also noted that Robertson is a finalist for the Gatorade Wisconsin female track
athlete of the year, was nominated for the Wissports athlete of the week and is a Greater Metro Conference Scholar Athlete and WIAA Scholar Athlete. Robertson was also the conference track athlete of the year in her junior and senior years. Samatha Madrzak and Christian Almonte were the other Menomonee Falls qualifiers for the state track meet. Madrzak didn't record a height in the pole vault while Almonte finished eighth in the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 11.28. "It was probably the most amazing experience I ever had, being able to compete against the top athletes of the state," Madrzak told the School Board. "Although I didn't do very well, I'm already practicing, getting ready and preparing to go back next year. Other results: The Hamilton 4x400 meter relay team of Drew Patterson, Chais Blackburn, Brett Buehler and Josh Desorcy finished fourth with a time of 3:19.97. Patterson finished 13th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.95, Joel Fotsch finished 16th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.79, Blackburn finished 14th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.52 while Tony Koepnick finished 16th in the discus with a toss of 138-4. In girls competition, Ashlyn Paulson finished 21st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.26. For Germantown, Mitch Fox placed eighth in the pole vault by crossing the bar at 13-6, Bryan McMichael finished 10th in the high jump with a height of 6-2, Ryan Lemke finished 17th in the shot put with a toss of 133-6 while Nick Holcomb placed 20th in the triple jump by covering 41-0.5. In girls competition, Jennifer Ellis finished 10th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.67 while the 400 meter relay team of Sammie Gassner, Erika Bethhauser, Bethany Laubenheimer and Jayne Bertieri finished 11th with a time of 50.11.

Girls soccer: Late goal lifts Cedarburg past Germantown in sectional final
A familiar North Shore Conference foe stymied Germantowns hopes of making the state tournament June 8. Cedarburg defeated Germantown 1-0 at Whitefish Bay, as a goal by Lydia Koenig off a corner kick by Anny West at the 77th minute gave the Bulldogs the goal they needed to advance to state. The Bulldogs controlled possession on Germantowns side of the field for almost all of the first half. Germantown pushed the ball onto Cedarburgs side at the start of the second half, forcing a save by the Cedarburg goalkeeper off a free kick at the 54th minute. We knew we had to make adjustments because we were not going to be defending for a full 80 minutes and come away with a victory, Germantown Coach Paul Sikinger said. We started attacking the flanks a little bit. The Bulldogs then started to reassert control and kept up the pressure for the remainder of the contest. You only need one great opportunity to come away with a victory to go to state, and they came away with that great opportunity,Sikinger said. Sikinger noted that this is the first time this group of players reached the sectional final and it took awhile for the team to get going. In addition, he noted that the players go up against Cedarburg players in club competition. Our girls knew what was at stake but we werent quite ready for the big moment, Sikinger said. I guarantee you next year these girls will be fired up. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor
