Holy Communion and the Baptism of Tyler Luke McArdle

we stand to sing

(376)

And can it be that I should gain, an interest in the Saviour's blood? Died he for me, who caused his pain? For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! how can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me! 'Tis mystery all! The immortal dies; who can explore his strange design? In vain the first-born seraph tries to sound the depths of love divine. 'Tis mercy all! let earth adore, let angel minds inquire no more. He left his Father's throne above so free, so infinite his grace emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam's helpless race. 'Tis mercy all, immense and free; for, O my God, it found out me! Long my imprisoned spirit lay fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; my chains fell off, my heart was free. I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine! Alive in Him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine, bold I approach the eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ, my own.

The Lord be with you and also with you We rejoice today with the family and friends of Mark and Amy as they bring Tyler Luke for Baptism. God forgives us in Christ and heals us by the Holy Spirit. Let us as wayward children return to God and confess our sins. Father, you come to meet us when we return to you: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Spirit, you give us life and peace: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit all our days. Amen. Glory, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest; Peace to his people on earth, peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, Almighty God and Father We worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Glory, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest; Peace to his people on earth, peace to his people on earth.
3

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer, receive our prayer, receive our prayer. You alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory, the glory, the glory of God the Father. Amen, amen, amen, Amen, amen, amen.
COLLECT, prayer for the day

God our saviour, look on this wounded world in pity and in power; hold us fast to the promises of peace won for us by your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. We sit for THE LITURGY OF THE WORD The First Reading from Galatians 2: 15-21 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law. But if, in our effort to be justified in Christ, we ourselves
4

have been found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again the very things that I once tore down, then I demonstrate that I am a transgressor. For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God
We stand and sing as the Gospel Book is brought to the people. All turn to face the centre of church. The choir will sing an anthem

As the deer pants for the water So my soul longs after You. You alone are my heart's desire And I long to worship You.

You alone are my strength, my shield, To You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire And I long to worship You.
I want you more than gold or silver, Only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy-giver And the apple of my eye. You're my Friend and You are my Brother. Even though You are a King. I love You more than any other, So much more than anything.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to LUKE 7: 3650 36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisees house and took his place at the table. 37 And a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having learned that he was eating in the Pharisees house, brought an alabaster jar of ointment. 38 She stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and began to bathe his feet with her tears and to dry them with her hair. Then she continued kissing his feet and anointing them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him - that she is a sinner. 40 Jesus spoke up and said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. Teacher, he replied. Speak. 41 A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debts for both of them. Now which of them will love him more? 43 Simon answered, I suppose the one for whom he cancelled the greater debt. And Jesus said to him, You have judged rightly. 44 Then turning towards the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has bathed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little. 48 Then he said to her, Your sins are forgiven. 49 But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins? 50 And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

At the end the reader says

Tyler Luke Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of his cross.
Parents and Godparents are invited to make the sign of the cross on his forehead.

Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified. Fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the devil and remain faithful to Christ to the end of your lives. May almighty God deliver you from the powers of darkness, restore in you the image of his glory and lead you in the light and obedience of Christ. Amen
we all stand for the procession to the font as we sing

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Praise the God of all creation who keeps his promise for ever We thank you for the gift of water to sustain, refresh and cleanse all life. Over the water the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through water you led the Israelites from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land. In water Jesus was baptised by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit to lead us from the death of sin to newness of life. Bless this water that those who are washed in it may be made one with Christ in his death and resurrection, to be cleansed and delivered from all sin. Send your Holy Spirit on them that, renewed in your image, they may walk by the light of faith and continue for ever in life eternal. Amen

The Lord is here His Spirit is with us Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give thanks and praise It is always right to give you thanks, God our Creator, loving and faithful, holy and strong. You made us and the whole universe, and filled your world with life. You sent your Son to live among us, Jesus our Saviour, Mary's child. He suffered on the cross; he died to save us from our sins; he rose in glory from the dead. You send your Spirit to bring new life to the world, and clothe us with power from on high. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of powr and God of might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name,

he who comes in the name of the Lord. hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. On the night before he died, Jesus shared a meal with his friends. He took the bread, and thanked you. He broke it, and gave it to them, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this to remember me. After the meal, Jesus took the cup of wine. He thanked you, and gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you. This is my blood, the new promise of God's unfailing love. Do this to remember me. Father, as we bring this bread and wine, and remember his death and resurrection, send your Holy Spirit, that we who share these gifts may be fed by Christ's body and his blood. Pour your Spirit on us that we may love one another, work for the healing of the earth, and share the good news of Jesus, as we wait for his coming in glory. For honour and praise belong to you, Father, with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit: one God, for ever and ever Amen.

we sit and silence is kept

As our Saviour taught us so we pray: Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be your name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
12

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many we are one body because we all share in the one bread Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of god, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us your peace, grant us your peace. You prepare a table for us, offering not just bread, not just wine, not just blessing, but your very self so that we may be filled, forgiven, healed, blessed and made new.

The Servers & Choir receive communion followed by the congregation. We sit as we sing the hymns during Communion Everyone is welcome to come to the altar rail to receive a blessing or the bread and the wine

13

How deep the Fathers love for us, how vast beyond all measure, that he should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure. How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns his face away, as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory. Behold the man upon the cross, my sin upon his shoulders; ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished; his dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished. I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no power, no wisdom; but I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection. Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart, his wounds have paid my ransom.
