RE: DEA Briefing

As you will recall, I gave you a copy of the MFRI drafted on the DEA Briefing in
preparation for our scheduled yet aborted meeting with Jamie Gorelick last week.
Barbara Grewe is planning to review the MFR and commented to me before she began
reading it that it might be classified. Out of an abundance of caution, I have changed the
classification of the document to SECRET and have reprinted it for you (see attachment).
Please destroy the copies I gave you previously. I will let you know what Barbara's
assessment of the classification-level is. Thank you.

What does DEA do in the US and overseas with information (intelligence) not

whom in the US?

o In which countries are DEA reps posted today? In CY 1999, 2000, 2001?

o How do DEA country attaches document their activities? Messages in DEA

o Do foreign DEA reps (country attaches) routinely transmit reports to DEA Hqs
regarding interaction they might have with a CI? Reporting discussions they have
with a LEGATT, Chief of Station, or foreign liaison law enforcement, intelligence

/
/
o/ Do DEA reps generally speak the language of the countries to which assigned?
