Glucose Meter & Visualizer
Note
While I don’t have the
capabilities to develop this product, I wanted
to conceive a device that is based in real-
ity and does not rely on future technologies
(full-color bendable paper displays or what
not) while still managing to add a useful
forward thinking creative function.
Abstract
Concept for a blood Glucose Meter with more ad-
vanced display, computing and visualization capa-
bilities for creative displaying and usage of glucose
level data.
The Idea
While there are lot of modern medical online ser-
vices and mobile apps nowadays for diabetes
patients, people still have to rely on Glucose meters
that seem to be stuck in the past (in many aspects) to
gather data. My goal therefore was to design a small
easy to use touchscreen glucometer with open stan-
dards, a simplistic aesthetic, enhanced functionality,
but which also offers unique visualization capabili-
ties.
Patients are demanding a modern medical device
that from a usability perspective can keep up with
entertainment products, there is no particular rea-
son why they shouldn’t and I don’t think it’s hard to
imagine what such a product would look like and
what functions they should have (easy symcing,
online features, data entry, statistical level prediction
etc.). And while I tried to incorporate all those ideas
into the design the main idea is something a little
different.
Visualising Glucose Level Data

The idea behind the device is, that while offering

superior functionality to regular glucometers, it

also lets users visualize glucose history data in an

artful, entertaining or aesthetic way. users, if they

wish, can also create visualizations themselves

through a simple scripting language and trade

them via a online social network that the device

automatically syncs it’s medical data to.

for example could the regularity of your glucose

level checking and your glucose level determin

how a character in a simple rgp game develops,

how the world in a jump and run look like, how

challenging a maze type game is going to be. data

sets could be represented as bouncing balls high

glucose levels have other colors and a different

speed ,generate music or even contribute to an

interactive art piece that uses the collective data

from every user to enhance the visability of diabe-

tis in the public eye.

The purpose of this feature is to reinforce the im-

portance of regular check ups, a healthy lifestyle in

a none menacing way while also connecting dia-

betis patients online in a creative and inviting way

via a webport that is not just used for collecting

medical information.
