3 Installing the FlexiPacket Radio

3.1 Precautions
The radiation emitted by the antenna is low-power radiation and does not exceed the safety regulations. If the radio is operated without the antenna, the safety limit is exceeded near the waveguide openings.

WARNING! RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. THIS PRODUCT MAY NEED TO BE INSTALLED ON A HIGH-RISE STRUCTURE SUCH AS A TOWER OR MAST. WHEN INSTALLING THE PRODUCT, WEAR A SAFETY HARNESS AND OTHER RELEVANT PROTECTIVE GEAR. IN ADDITION, FOLLOW ALL OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO THE INSTALLATION.

WARNING! DO NOT LOOK INTO AN OPEN WAVEGUIDE WHILE THE EQUIPMENT IS OPERATING. DAMAGE TO THE EYE MAY RESULT.

Before starting the installation, verify that you have the correct equipment (correct FlexiPacket Radio frequency and subband, correct antenna) and that the equipment has not been damaged during transportation. Also note the following prerequisites for installation: Transmission and installation have been planned. The far-end radio is installed or the installation space for the far-end radio has been planned. The following restrictions shall be considered before installing the FlexiPacket Radio: The weather conditions must be taken into account when installing the FlexiPacket Radio. The maximum and minimum temperatures at the installation location must remain within the acceptable range. For cable installation temperatures, refer to the cable manufacturer's specifications. For detailed information, see the chapter Environment in Product Description for Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiPacket Radio. The integrated antenna can be aligned 45 in the vertical direction and 360 in the horizontal direction (fine adjustment 15). The mounting pole structure must be stable enough to keep the antenna within its 3 dB beam-width in all foreseeable wind conditions. Do not install the FH FlexiPacket Radio at a location where an unauthorised person can have access to the antenna radiation region or to the equipment itself. When the FlexiPacket Radio is installed in regions where the temperature alls below zero degrees Celsius during the winter, ice can accumulate on installation tower structures. Take precautions to avoid the breakage of antennas due to falling ice. Suitable protection can be achieved, for example, by installing a metal grating above the antenna.

Installing FH FlexiPacket Radio Alignment Units

Installing the Alignment Unit of an integrated 30 or 60 cm antenna
Summary FH FlexiPacket Radio uses the same FlexiPacket Radio Antennas and FlexiPacket Radio Alignment Units as the rest of FlexiPacket Radio family, which make a possible upgrade to FH FlexiPacket Radio easy. The Alignment Unit can be installed onto poles of 48 - 115 mm diameter. The Alignment Unit can be installed onto either side of the pole simply by turning the Alignment Unit around; no change of parts is needed. In normal use there is no need to handle loose parts that might drop during the installation process. Steps 1 Use M8 x 20 screws and washers to fasten the main support part to the counter part. Remember to fasten the main support part from the other side as well (see figure Figure 30 panels 1a or 1b).Do not tighten the screws totally until the antenna alignment is finalised. 2 Loosen the mast bolt nuts and twin bolt nuts to set the clamp around the installation pole, then close the twin bolts. The Alignment Unit can be installed on either side of the pole by simply turning the Alignment Unit around (see figure Figure 30 panel 2a or 2b). 3 4 Rotate the whole Alignment Unit towards the far-end station if needed. Tighten the nuts using a 13 mm spanner. Aim along the side surface of the main support, for example. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 15 Nm. 5 If the vertical deviation to the far-end station is more than 20 Then Change the position of the coarse vertical adjustment locking screws (see figure Figure 30 panel 3a or 3b) of the main support to the upper or lower position, depending on the direction of the deviation. Do this before installing the Alignment Unit, if the deviation is known.

Before you start It is possible to use a FH FlexiPacket Radio antenna separated from the FH FlexiPacket Radio. The FH FlexiPacket Radio and the Antenna are connected by a flexible waveguide or an elliptical waveguide. The FH FlexiPacket Radio is mounted on its own Alignment Unit and the waveguide is connected to it with an adapter. The antenna feeder has threaded holes for the installation of the waveguide with screws. When used with a separated antenna, the FH FlexiPacket Radio is always installed with the connectors facing down.

g NOTICE
The equipment may be damaged if water is collected between the radio interface and the waveguide adapter. Always install the waveguide adapter with the guide hole facing up and the water hole facing down. Polarization can be changed by turning the antenna feeder. For instructions, see par. 5.3.1 Changing polarization of antennas. Check the coarse alignment before installing the Antenna.

Aligning the antenna

Aligning an integrated 30 or 60 cm antenna
Before you start Align the Antenna after the transmit frequency, transmit power, and capacity have been set according to the transmission plan. The FH FlexiPacket Radio at the other end of the hop must be pre-aligned to this station and must be sending a signal on the correct frequency. The Antenna is aligned on the basis of the monitoring voltage (AGC). Thebest signal is achieved using the maximum value of AGC Summary The following instructions are for fine aligning the Antenna mounted on the integrated Alignment Unit. Steps 1 2 3 Loosen screws of vertical (both sides of the Alignment Unit) and horizontal adjustment locks slightly (see figure Figure 41 panels a or b). Connect the DC voltage meter to the monitoring connector (AGC) and grounding connector (see figure Figure 42). Find the Maximumvalue for the monitoring voltage by vertical and horizontal adjustment of the adjustment screws. The greater the voltage, the greater the received power. 4 5 6 7 When the right alignment has been found, tighten the screws of the vertical and horizontal adjustment locks to 20 Nm. Check the monitoring meter. Alignment should not move during locking. Remove the DC voltage meter. Check with the FlexiHub Manager that the Rx input level meets the planned value.

Grounding
Grounding FlexiPacket Radio
Before you start

Follow local requirements for earthing (grounding). The principles and requirements
vary in different countries.

g NOTICE
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) may damage the equipment. Wear an ESD wrist strap or use a corresponding method when handling the units, and do not touch the connector surfaces. A 6 mm2 grounding wire is used in grounding the FlexiPacket Radio. Summary To ensure safe installation conditions for both personnel and equipment, the equipment station must be grounded before installing the equipment. The purpose of protective grounding is to keep the electrical potential of the equipment at the same level as the potential of the surrounding ground. This prevents generation of dangerous voltages between the equipment and the ground. Because of the high locations of the radio and base station equipment, equipment stations are particularly susceptible to lightning strokes. Ground the equipment according to rules and regulations issued by the local authorities.

CAUTION! To avoid damage to the equipment, ensure that all the equipment of a station is connected to the same earth (ground) potential.

Steps 1 2 Peel 15 mm of insulation from the tip of the grounding wire. Connect the grounding wire to the grounding clamp of the FlexiPacket Radio and tighten with a 13 mm spanner as shown in Figure 49. Recommended maximum tightening force is 8 - 10 Nm.

current is achieved when all the 4 ODUs are connected and powered on. The breaker value (6A) is defined related to the maximum input current. The output maximum current for each port is limited by the Power Injector itself. A max current control circuit limits the feeded current, i.e. the current delivered to the ODU, to 1.6 A for each port.

7.3.2

Power Injector grounding

The Power Injector must be grounded by connecting the grounding point on the side to the rack ground by using the grounding cable provided with the Power Injector.

7.3.3

Power supply
