Introduction

There is so much conflicting information about a good diet, that people often come to me and really dont know what to do anymore. Is it best to eat everything cooked, baked and steamed, like in Macrobiotics, or is it better to eat it all raw, as the Rawfood movement prescribes. Is it better to take supplements and if so, which ones? Or can we simply do without? In this report I will provide answers to such questions, based on my experience in with nutrition over the past 30 years.

My first interest in diet arose at age thirteen. At high school there was a girl in my year that was vegetarian. She was so passionate about it that I became interested in what I ate. At the age of sixteen, I spent some time in London and found a book named Not all in the Mind by Dr. Richard Mackarness, How Unsuspected Food Allergy Can Affect Your Body And Your Mind. It explained the negative effect of different foods on behavior. From then on I became even more interested in the effect of different foods on our wellbeing.

When I started talking about this subject, many people thought there was something wrong with me, especially when I told them that food does have an effect on behavior. Years later the same people came back to me for dietary advice. Slowly but steadily medical science becomes convinced, that there is a strong relationship between diet and physical and psychological wellbeing.

Now what is really a good diet? In this report Ill share with you the seven important secrets, when it comes to diet. Very soon my complete book full of practical tips and recipes will be available on this website.

Secret 1
A good diet is personal.

A good diet is a very personal thing. There is no such thing as one perfect diet. Everybody is different, one person is strong, the other weak, one person is always warm, the other cold, one person is always physically active, and the other is more mentally active. All these variations in people ask for different foods to suit their needs.

Many people say coffee is bad and tea is good. But because coffee warms the body and tea cools it, coffee can be very good for a person who is always cold. For such a person its better to avoid drinking too much tea. The same is true for every other food, some warm the body and some cool it down. For a warm person cucumber is great, for a cold type of person its better to take for instance coconut liquid, which is warming.

Then there are the different tastes of food. They all have a specific effect on the body. Sweet foods (like honey and watermelon) can slow down acute symptoms and neutralize the toxic effect of other foods. Sour foods (like lemon and plum) can obstruct certain internal processes and aid overcoming diarrhea and excessive perspiration. All the different tastes have a distinct effect on our body. Which ones you need more, depends on your own constitution. Chinese Medicine has a complete dietary philosophy based upon all these concepts. More information about this very interesting subject and how to use it in a practical way, can be found in my upcoming E-book.

Secret 2
A good diet takes environment and season into consideration.

The environment in which people live is a very important factor as it comes to diet. An Eskimo in the cold needs different foods than someone living in a tropical rainforest. Normally, the food that is best for you can be found within 10 kilometers from where you live. The food that surrounds you in a particular season is most suited to your needs. A cooling tropical orange or lemon is not what you need when its freezing cold and youve been working outside the whole day. You would probably prefer hot stews and drinks and in fact that is exactly what you need then; warming up.

Im always very interested to hear of people living on rawfood in colder climates. The funny thing is that after some time on rawfood, they often move to another climate, start exercising vigorously (this creates body heat) or add some animal or cooked food to their diet. In the beginning they are fine, still using their reserves built up from eating animal and cooked food. At some point though, they need to warm up, which they find by moving to warmer places, by exercising a lot and/or by changing diet.

Secret 3
A good diet stresses the importance of pure water.

The quality of the water you drink is as important as the food you eat. Fresh, clean water is essential for good health. You can find very interesting information about water in Masaru Emotos book The Hidden Messages in Water: Understanding the fact that we are essentially water is the key to uncovering the mysteries of the universe.

It turns out that water is not just a chemical substance called H2O carrying food, oxygen and waste products through the body, but that is also an information carrier. The best water can be found high up in the mountains and from natural wells. Emoto managed to take pictures of frozen water molecules. The purer the water is, the nicer the molecules. He also found out that words and music have a great impact on the structure of the molecules. The nicest molecules were formed by the words love and gratitude. Since our body consists mainly of water, you can guess how far the influence of thoughts can reach!

The water we drink should be as pure as possible. As such it will transport our waste products, food and oxygen in the best possible way. Nowadays there are many good systems to clean our water and recharge it with life force. This can be a good idea in areas where there is a lot of pollution and where the water contains traces of chemicals, such as antibiotics, hormones, medicines and pesticides.

Secret 4
A good diet consists of natural plant foods.

A good diet consists of natural -whole plant- foods, like fresh fruits, vegetables (especially greens), nuts, seeds, grains and beans. Ive tried everything myself and have come to the conclusion that a big part of it should be consumed raw. Fresh plant food contains lots of energy that is ready for use. Traditional diets consisted mainly of raw plant food and weeds. How much food you want to cook or bake depends on your own constitution, the place where you live, the season, and your condition. Raw foods are best to cleanse the body. Cooked foods to warm the body. There is a lot of confusion about animal protein. No one physically needs animal protein. This has been proven throughout history. In poor countries, many spiritual traditions and traditional diets, people lived on plant food and were very healthy. Scientific research finds more and more evidence that animal protein is the cause of many modern diseases. For instance, colon cancer is rarely found among vegans, occurs a little more often among vegetarians and is rampant among people who eat a lot a red meat. (Effect of different diets on faecal markers related to colorectal cancer risk. Studies with vegetarians and urolithiasis patients, dr. A. van Faassen, 1996). The amount of animal protein western people consume has risen enormously over the past hundred years with many negative effects on our health. The same is true for milk products. In traditional cultures people used a little fresh milk, not polluted with hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals and other chemicals. Not the huge amounts we use nowadays. Do you know that in gallon of our processed milk there is 1 thimble of pus, from all the infections cows have in their nipples? Scientific research has proven that certain forms of cancer, like breast cancer, are found much more often among people that use a lot of dairy. It you are interested in this subject, you can find more information at: www.pcrm.org/health/Info_on_Veg_Diets/dairy.html.

Organic food is always better than non-organic, since it contains more minerals and vitamins and less chemicals. Its good to have all different tastes in your diet on a regular basis. These different tastes are: sweet, sour, pungent, bitter and salt. The main part of your food should be naturally sweet, which means sweet like carrots, squash or well cooked rice, not the pungent sweetness of sugar. Try to have all colors on your plate regularly. It not only looks nice, in this way you will get all the necessary anti-oxidants automatically. Anti-oxidants are comparable to the pigments in your food.

Secret 5
A good diet doesnt contain highly processed foods.

Avoid all chemical additives, such as flavorings, colorings and preservatives as much as possible. Most products we can buy at the supermarket are loaded with chemicals. The food commercials on TV are often sponsored by the industry that makes a lot of money in selling chemical additives. Children are brought up with them and find it normal to have bright red or deep blue ice cream or sweeties.

Only 100 years ago there were hardly any of such additives in our food. Wouldnt our body be confused when it tastes strawberries, prepares for strawberries to come, but nothing comes. I cant imagine this is healthy.

Avoid sugar as much as possible. Its a very refined product that uses a lot of our body enzymes and minerals to get digested and throws our blood sugar out of balance, with all its consequences, like depression, fatigue, insomnia or headache.

Avoid refined products, like white flour, as much as possible. Be moderate with salt, coffee and alcohol. Avoid cigarettes and drugs.

Be aware of the effects of transfats. More and more problems arise because of them. Transfats are unsaturated fats, which change by heating them. The body cant use them, but stores them around the inner organs. They are very hard to get rid of. Nowadays you can see more and more people with fat bellys (just their belly), because of these trans-fats.

If you take a close look at what you buy in supermarkets and eat in fast food restaurants, its very often a combination of all these donts: refined products, loaded with sugar, salt and chemicals and full of trans-fats. No wonder people get so many health problems.

If you are interested in the effect of fast food on your body, I would recommend the movie Supersize Me about a man who takes all his meals at McDonalds for a whole month. In the film you can see the detrimental effect this has on his health.

Fortunately many fast food restaurants start serving healthier food nowadays!

Secret 6
A good diet is eaten in the right mindset.

The attitude with which you eat is as important as the food you eat. All over the world we find people pray, have a moment of silence or say thanks before and after each meal. Another good custom is, to think of all the people who worked to get this particular food on your plate. Be thankful for that.

Its important to be relaxed while eating. This way the food is assimilated much better. Feelings of haste, hatred, quilt or fear will have a negative effect on your digestion.

Be aware of your thoughts. They influence the effect the food has on your body. If you feel guilty about eating something, either change your thinking or dont eat that particular food. It wont be good for you.

Eat consciously. This will automatically change your eating habits. You wont be able to stuff yourself up with colored sweets if you are fully aware of what you are doing. The more you become conscious of what you eat, the better your choices become. Your body deserves to get the best natural diet possible.

Be thankful for all the different foods we have. There are so many that you can eat something new every day from now on for the rest of your life. Can you imagine?

Secret 7
A moderate diet is the key to a long and healthy life.

Eating less seems to be even more important than what we eat. Scientific research with apes has proven that if they eat 30% less, they will become 30% older. A recent article in ScienCentral summarizes this research with apes. And ... not only do the apes live longer under this treatment, but also they're much, much healthier. They don't seem to be showing many of the diseases characteristic of old age." http://www.sciencentral.com:80/articles/view.php3?article_id=218392886

A good way to judge how much food you need is to stop eating, not when full, but when you feel satisfied. That is often at about 70%. And dont snack too much in between meals.

If we look at people who got very old, like the Essenes, the Hunzas, and the Sanomas, they always ate moderate amounts and mainly plant food. Reaching the age of 120 was normal to them. In Hebrew there is a saying Ad Mea we Esriem, used to wish people good luck, which means till 120. Reaching an age of 120 is very well possible if we live in a healthy way.

In our society we learn that it is normal to get many problems when we get older. Over the age of 60 most western people are on medicines. This is considered normal by medical science. In fact this is not normal at all. We can stay fit, healthy and happy without medicines till a very old age. Many old people living in traditional cultures are a proof of this. The oldest man known to us is a Chinese, who lived mainly on Goji berries and reached the age of about 250 years!

Conclusion
As you understand by now, a good diet is not simple to define and easy to find. Through my writings and website I want to help you, to learn more about your own personal needs. Its very important to get to know your own constitution and condition better first. In my upcoming E-book, I will explain in a very practical way, how to change to a healthier diet and lose (or gain) weight if necessary. I will give you delicious recipes, many of them raw, that are easy to prepare and I will explain their effect on the body.

For now, lets get back to the questions in the introduction.

Is it good to eat rawfood? I would definitely say yes from everything I experienced and studied. Its a great way of eating. For me the question is not whether its good, but what percentage is good. And this again comes back to your constitution and where you live. Are you strong, warm and living in a warm climate, you can go as far as a 100% raw and feel great. Are you weaker, colder and living in a cold climate about 50-70% would be a better option or if you want to go a 100% you can include some raw animal food and specific herbs and spices.

Is it necessary to take supplements? Having worked with and written about Orthomolecular Medicine for a long time, Ive gained a lot of experience in this area. These supplements are great, when specific nutrients are really lacking. In general though I find these supplements too chemical. Its a very analytical way of thinking to add one specific nutrient to solve a problem. Taken into consideration the complexity of the bodys biochemical system, it not a very logical solution to just add a high dosage of a few vitamins or minerals.

A natural form of high nutrient products sounds more reasonable to me. I think they are much easier for the body to assimilate and dont leave unwanted residues. Some high

nutrient products you can think of are superfoods, like green powder, algae (spirulina, chlorella, E3live), aloe vera, maca, ginseng, raw chocolate, and Goji berries (Lycium fruit).

To end this special report, I would like to stress the importance of deep breathing, exercise and a good sleep. I will come back to these subjects later, but keep in mind: for a great health and happiness, they are as essential as the best natural diet!
