This Sri Lanka Directory of Environmental NGOs
consists profiles of over 700 Environmental Non Government
Organizations(NGOs) in 24 Districts of Sri Lanka. It also includes
their status, Contact persons, Mission, Activities, E-mail, fax,
phone numbers, mailing addresses, Websites etc.,
The Directory has been complied by a research and
editorial team mobilized by the Sri Lanka Environmental
Journalists Forum(SLEJF), one of Sri Lankas leading
environmental Organizations whose membership of nearly 1000
includes media professionals working in all sectors of the mass
media. SLEJF is a non-profit organization committed to
influence, encourage and promote sustainable development
communication and awareness building among the public in Sri
Lanka. SLEJF was established in January 1987, with support
from the Sri Lanka government, UN-ESCAP and the UNEP.Its
the only organization in Sri Lanka to have won the coveted
U N E P Global 500 Award. SLEJF Emphasizes monitoring and
coordination, vigorous advocacy of environment education,
public awareness, justice principles and practical assistance
programmes. The SLEJF mandate covers both professional and
public interests of journalists.
The Directory compilation process which took place
during the first half of 2004 involved numerous environmental
consultations, group meetings and a national workshop. The
process was actively supported by the Sri Lanka Environmental
Information Centre as well as several other environmental and
Mediagroups.
