ANNUAL MONITORING REPORT FOR PROGRAMMES DELIVERED SESSION 2008- 2009 1. Programme title: BA in Performing Arts 2.

Programme Leader: Konstantinos Vantzos 3. Previous annual report and action plan Action taken in response to the annual reporting and planning exercise in the previous year: N/A (a) Progress made toward the achievement of objectives outlined in the annual report for the previous academic session: (b) Any repositioning e.g. of programme aims, objectives, assessment, teaching and learning strategies:

4. Response to review/accreditation and/or subject review Action taken in response to review, professional accreditation and/or subject review visits undertaken during the reporting period (i.e. Session 2007-2008), together with summary of further action proposed (if appropriate). This will include action taken in response to conditions and recommendations made by validation and review panels since the most recent event (in some cases this will have taken place before the start of the reporting period): The Programme was validated for a period of five years commencing in September 2008, subject to satisfactory completion of the conditions below. 1. 1.1. Conditions That the students handbook is revised to render more in a user-friendly and informative way, including in particular: up to date regulations, incorporating all programme specific regulations; information on student representation; contact information for sources of advice and support; greater clarity on the identity of personal academic tutors as opposed to module tutors; course structure and assessment schedule.

programme document . 1.3. That the documentation be updated to rectify the minor omissions noted at the event, paying particular attention to: learning hours on module descriptors; admissions criteria, including clarification of whether entry to the BA is automatic for students who successfully complete the IVT Diploma; expansion of the section on programme management and quality assurance; deletion of references to marking with grades rather than percentages.

condition 1.3 programme document . 1.4. That the external examiner attends at least one of the two major assessed performances (ancient or modern drama).

, . 2.3. That both QMU and AKMI give priority to strengthening collaborative links between the School of Drama and Creative Industries and the teaching team.

Tutors could not communicate in the way they should, since as professional directors followed procedures used with professional actors and not the given academic procedures. Additionally, the programme leader of the 3d year of study was not the same person with the director of the two-year IVT studies, resulting in a gap in the educational philosophy of the programme. 2.4. That AKMI consider succession planning to ensure continuity in the event of staff changes. Taking all the above into consideration, we have already proceeded to improvements. The programme leader is the person who administrates all the three years of study and the tutors-directors are professionals who will be supervised and guided in order to follow the academic procedures needed in the preparations of performances by the permanent staff and the programme leader. All recommendations were meant to be fully covered by the programme team and assistant programme leader. In the first year of programme delivery, the outcome was not the planned one. 5. Response to student/staff/External Examiner/employer feedback Action taken in response to feedback received from students (via student staff consultative committees and individual module evaluations), staff, advisory bodies, employers and from External Examiners during the reporting period i.e. 2008-2009, together with a summary of further action proposed: Response to External Examiner Report The external examiner mainly remarked on the lack of an overall philosophy of the programme and that tutors did not share a common ground upon it. We hope that this issue will not cause difficulties in the future due to the fact that at this moment there is one person responsible for the three years of study, the course leader. The same person will undertake the task of guiding the programme team towards a common direction so as to fully cover the learning outcomes of the programme. Response to Student Feedback One of the main problems faced during the academic year 2008-2009 was that of students absences. 2008-2009 : Charis Niarrou 08007350 , (pass level) - . 40% . During the academic year 2009-2010, a certain policy will be put into force and strict measures will be taken for those students who will not attend their classes without a serious cause. All these new regulations will be announced to the students handbook of the programme. Another problem students faced last academic year was that of journal writing and of the theoretical assignments in general. The planned solution to this problem for the following academic year is not only to add extra tutorials but also to include into their regular classes curriculum the creation and design of initial drafts of theoretical assignments by a theatre expert and not only by the tutor-director of the performance. assistant programme leader Antonis Galeos journal . journal . Response to Programme Committee Programme Committee Meetings mainly focused on seeking solutions for the problem of students non-attendance, which hindered the smooth operation of the programme. The programme committee also discussed issues on the students weaknesses relating to the pre-requisite modules of kinesiology, voice training, etc. The action that was taken were extra tutorials by IVT tutors in order to fill in the knowledge gap between students who are IVT graduates and those who have entered the programme directly from the job market or other institutions. During the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010, extra tutorials of two-hour duration will be organized. The programme BA in Performing Arts is designed in such a way that acquisition of knowledge of new performing techniques (Including new media) is complemented by knowledge and practice in the demands of the classical repertory. The aim is for students to gain thorough knowledge of acting techniques, coupled with access to the latest developments, pursuits and applications in the field. The programme committee is constantly working to achieve a fruitful balance between these two complimentary perspectives. During the first year of delivering the programme, the programme faced some challenges in meeting the balance aforementioned. Preparing a Performance: the team acknowledges that learning outcomes of the module were not fully met. The reasons for this are interrelated: I. Students attendance: In some cases fell below what considered to be adequate. Action: Monitoring Absence: After missing 25% of the attendance requirement the student should have a reduction of 10% to his/her final mark. That creates the incentive to work as hard as possible to compensate for that loss of 10%. If, despite that, the student fails the module but maintains attendance he/she would be required to resubmit the written element of the module but could only receive a maximum of

40% as our regulations stipulate. If the student continues to be absent up to 40% then the student would automatically fail. II. Journal: The examiners both internal and external, considered that the students did not engage fully with the Journal. For the majority of the students the Journal was a new learning mechanism and therefore, they did not understand the significance of it as a learning-and-teaching tool. Action: During Induction week, students will be given a seminar on the nature and requirements of the Journal. For this academic year there is also in place a tutor in charge of Academic Writing support to facilitate successful completion of this assessment component. III. Knowledge of visiting artists of H. E protocols (including assessment): students not delivering: ACTION: The permanent staff and the programme leader will mentor the guest tutors and directors in order to ensure that they are cognisant and compliant with academic procedures and assessment protocols. Further enhancement of module content: Short-term A series of seminars-master classes and elective modules will be offered to complement students access to information on current developments in contemporary theatre practice, particularly within the context of Greek theatre industry. Long-term considerations: The module Preparing a Performance plays a key role. Student feedback showed that the current format of a assemblage of scenes into a single performance, did not fulfill the requirements of the module. In the Board of Examiners it was agreed that it will be advisable to engage students with a full or at least two/three One-Act plays. This will give students complete experience into researching a role, etc. The programme team is considering this and may be looking to put forth a proposal for minor changes to the module later in the academic year. The spring semester performance Ancient Drama will be restructured to emphasised process-based learning with attention to artistic research and laboratory-like learning strategies. The module Acting for the Camera, the assessment requirements for this module have been clarified and the full assessment portfolio will be delivered this academic.

6. Equality and Diversity Action taken or issues identified relating to the enhancement of equality and diversity, whether in relation to recruitment, student support, curriculum content, or methods of learning, teaching and assessment. (For example, adjustments made to promote accessibility for disabled students, or repositioning of module content to reflect issues relating to gender, age, religion, faith, belief, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.) There were no issues of disability during academic year 2008-2009.

7. Analysis of performance indicators Commentary on statistical information (as provided in the appendices to the annual monitoring report): During the academic year 2008-2009, there were: 28 applicants 15 started their studies. 9 18, 3 . 6 28 audition. audition , , , . . . 2 withdrawals 1 1 3 retrievals 5 passed with distinction , , , . 15, 1 .

8. Teaching & Learning (a) Details of staff development, consultancy and research activities undertaken during the reporting period: (b) Details of major academic developments, including developments in teaching and learning; programme content and/or delivery; developments in collaboration with external agencies and/or in response to special initiatives e.g. University or SFC/Scottish Executive initiatives: During the academic session 2008-2009, Dr. Veronica Bamber and her team from the QMU Centre of Academic Practice organised and presented two series of seminars to the teaching teams of the programmes run by AKMI Educational Organisation. The first series took place in mid January and the second in early March. The main topics that were discussed during the seminars were: Course Structure Learning UK philosophy, theory, styles, approaches to learning Levels of learning (Bloom, SCQF) Factors which influence learning Student-centred learning Constructive alignment of learning, teaching, assessment L&T: Methods and Approaches (1)

Teaching methods to encourage deep learning / student engagement Lecturing for learning L&T: Methods and Approaches (2) Teaching methods to encourage deep learning / student engagement Small group learning Evaluating your teaching and student learning Assessment principles and practices The Assessment Cycle (define, plan, communicate with students, formatively assess, adapt L&T, summatively assess, double mark, record achievements, External Examiner, Exam Board, evaluate) Assessment for learning using formative assessment feedback for learning Criteria-based marking activity

9. Resourcing Resourcing needs identified (e.g. staffing, accommodation and equipment) during the academic session under review, with suggestions for how these can be realised: Staff The teaching staff consists of Peter Sevastikoglou & Efthimis Hatzis film directorsThanassis Theologis & Nikos Charalambous theatre directors Olivia Pallikari theatre expert (course leader)- Kostas Philippoglou actor- director. During the academic year 2009- 2010 the above teaching staff will be adjusted according to the external examiners recommendations in a direction of solving the previous difficulties. The tutors of the new teaching staff are: Kostas Vantzos theatre director actor (programme leader)- Efthimis Hatzis film director- Antonis Galeos theatre expert Theodoros Espiritou director theatre expert- Vassilis Nikolaidis theatre expert director. Library Students deliver their essays by using guided bibliography that is pointed out to them by the tutors. The students that attend BA in Performing Arts programme have access to the library of Athens Metropolitan College, which is part of the Educational Organisation AKMI, and it is being updated and enhanced by Drama & Performing Arts titles. They also have access to the electronic QMU library as QMU provides students who speak English fluently a code password. Computing Specialist Resources Apart from the theory classrooms and computing labs, the course uses 2 acting classrooms & 1 TV plateau- studio and 2 professional theatres (indoors & outdoors venues) with all its facilities. Student Counselling Facilities AKMI has a counseling service that is focused on resolving academic and administration issues that are being brought up by the students. Co-ordination of this service is carried out by Mrs Kiriaki Leukaditi, who is the head of students counselors, Mrs Xenia Servou, Mrs Ergina Psatha, who are available for all AKMI IVT students. BA students make use of this service but they are mainly supported by the Course Leader: Kostas Vantzos and their PATs. Student Support

All teaching staff is available to the students and accessible during office hours and e-mails to help them in any problems. Personal Academic Tutors are also assigned to each student.

10. Quality Enhancement of Learning, Teaching and Assessment (a) Commentary on action taken to address the QELTA Strategy. Please refer to relevant actions identified in the 2007-2008 implementation plan.
Primary Goal 1: Maximising Potential Through Learning

The particular programme has been designed in such a way that it may comprise both the instruction of new and current performing techniques in accordance to advances in technology and new media, current trends in actor training and technique, along with more classical and canonical approaches to the rehearsing process for the staging of a performance. The main objective is to prepare actors for a variety of acting environments that they will encounter throughout their careers, from the commercial to the more experimental theatre, television and film. The composition of the academic team will compose of permanent and temporary staff to reflect the model of recruiting professional directors from the theatre community and market to direct the performances for the module Preparing a Performance. Students are to acquire the necessary skills and get acquainted with the professional standards required from the current performing arts market trends The permanent staff along with the programme leader will structure the module and provide guidelines to the visiting lecturers and directors so as to secure the educational process and the realization of the learning outcomes.
Primary Goal 2: AKMI/ AMC as a Community of Learners

The academic team will secure the creative coexistence of different trends, outlooks, techniques, learning processes, research goals so that the educational process proves fruitful and deters any possible misunderstandings from the part of the students. A new induction programme will be implemented for both students and new collaborative partners Academic team will inform students on copyright and plagiarism. The administrative team will provide access to all electronic resources regardless of student location through moodle. Primary Goal 3: Quality Assurance and Audit The new composition of the academic team along with the programme leader ensures that all processes will follow the rules, standards and the educational philosophy of British higher education. The academic and the administrative teams will revise mechanisms for collecting and responding to student feedback (b) Commentary on action taken in relation to Enhancement Themes. Past themes: Assessment, Responding to Student Needs, Employability, Flexible Delivery, Integrative Assessment Current themes: The First Year, Research Teaching Linkages, Quality Cultures and Systems & Structures for Enhancement

The academic and the administrative teams have been inducted, informed and trained so as to conform their methodology, educational goals and teaching strategies according to the standards of British Higher Education. The academic team will integrate into the curriculum, by introducing a special tutorial for the third year students on this issue. The Academic Team has considered the issue 'What can we do so that students in their first year can be introduced to an academic environment instead of a vocational environment as guided through the national Greek benchmarks?' For the purposes of the Theme, the first year was defined as year one entry into a higher education programme, and students are to be guided in the processes of academic writing and assessment procedures. Students will be also guided to take initiatives and get engaged more actively in the educational process, even from the beginning of their study period.

NOTE: Programme teams are not expected to participate in all themes equally, but to concentrate on those which are of most relevance to their programme.

11. Good Practice and Innovation Please highlight any examples of good practice or innovation in the past year. Physical Theatre: Although the model may be a well established one within UK education, in the context of Greek theatre education the provision of this opportunity was of significant novelty for our students. The manner in which the module was delivered, the tutor was able to balance a focus approach to delivery of content with attention to students sense of personal creativity and imagination. Theatre Semiotics: A significant percentage of the student body came from a purely vocational background. However their feedback indicates that very good learning and teaching took place within this module that challenged them to engage with critical perspectives that enabled them to find a personal written and spoken voice from which to reflect on their emergent practice. This is a significant innovation within the context of Greek education for actors.

12. Action Plan (a) Prioritised objectives for Session 2008-2009, summarising the key issues arising from the annual report. For each objective, please specify who is responsible for action identified and the timescale by which it should be met.

Ensure the parity between existing AKMI students and direct entrants. Enhance the students team spirit and communication. Organise and implement a clear strategy on absences. Analyse and convey clearly and in detail the philosophy of the Programme to the students. Ensure that the class schedule remains unchanged. Enhance the educational process during rehearsals; emphasise the process of learning, rather than focusing on the results. Reconsider the modules Preparing a Modern Play and Preparing an Ancient Play with regards to their scheduling, structure and contents. Restructure and co-ordinate effectively the module Acting for Camera, with regards to its content and its assessment. Co-ordination of visiting staff with the requirements of the programme in terms of their pedagogic methods and their corporate knowledge of procedures and students concerns. Students need to be introduced to the rationale behind the submission of any written work (e.g. journals, essays), which is often required as a form of assessment. The Staff and SSCC Meetings should conclude with an agreed action plan.

Objective

Issue arisen from

Action Required One good recommendation is to be applied to all students a penalty, in case that a student misses 25% of hours of a module, to be assessed 40%. After an official warning of the institution, a student must be conformed to the regulations. In case he/she continues missing classes up to 35% of hours, fails the module. This proposal will be implemented by the staff committee and will be updated in the students handbook. Visiting staff should be assisted by the PL and permanent staff so as to achieve the best learning outcomes of the pedagogic methods, the corporate knowledge of procedures and the methods of handling students concerns. Permanent staff has to coordinate all the modules that are taught by the visiting staff, to have the generic control of the modules and to disseminate a set of general guidelines taking into consideration the prerequisites of the quality assurance guide. We ensure that after the first two weeks running of the Programme we will end up with the comprehension of the agreed action plan of the academic year 20092010 by the students. By following the pattern of the action plan focused on our reports, all the staff and SSCC meeting will conclude with an agreed action plan that will be traced and re-evaluated in the following meeting.

External Examiner Konstantinos Arvanitakis

During the induction weeks, (first 2 weeks of academic year) it is suggested students to work together as a team and produce a piece of work that will heavily depend on shared work. These sessions include a series of classes such as improvisation, movement and voice, which at the end give the opportunity to the students to perform (a small project that lasts 2-5 minutes) as parts of a creative team. That will be conducted not only by tutors of the academic staff, but also by IVT tutors. Simultaneously, the academic staff will be able to identify the difficulties that a student might be facing, to notice the different level of skills and finally to act proactively in order to eliminate the differences of the cohorts ability level.

The drafting of the relevant proposal will have to be ready by early September.

Two first weeks of Winter Semester 2009-2010 Completed by the end of Oct. 2009.

Programme Team (including tutors from AKMI IVT).

Mentor the modules Preparing a Modern Play and Preparing an Ancient Play in reference of their scheduling and content.

Dr. David Dunn and External Examiner Konstantinos Arvanitakis

Preparing a Modern Play is initially scheduled at the first semester of the Programme but it is indicated that it should be moved into the second semester in order to contribute the culmination of the modules year end. Therefore, instead of showcase scenes the module could terminate with three one act plays, which will certainly meet the students needs, in terms of developing and sustaining a character. Preparing an Ancient Play is a module that has equally not been effective, in terms of its value and final result. There are suggestions this module to be shifted to the first semester to accommodate Preparing a Modern Play, and become core of a workshop module. However, it should be considered the possibility of refraining the production of a public performance, which will alleviate the stress off the students and will allow them to engage more adventurously in the discovery of the genres particularities.

Enhance the educational process during rehearsals; emphasise the process of learning, rather than focusing on the results.

Student Feedback and External Examiner Konstantinos Arvanitakis

We ensure that we will highly focus on the methodology of every step of the rehearsal which will enlighten the above goal, towards a clear and welldefined conception of staging the play of the specific playwright. However, it is significant the existence of visiting directors to lead the workshops and its a necessity of the academic team of the Programme to set a standard of services and regulations for any visiting staff member. Therefore, the academic team will ensure and observe that every visiting professional who will lead workshops for the purpose of these modules will be suitable not only professionally, but also educationally. In this case students feedback is vital and should be requested and taken into consideration. However, attention will be drawn to the format, the structure and the contents of the journals, so that the students can fully comprehend what is requested. In order to instruct the students appropriately, we have considered to include in their practical modules, some extra tutorials which will focus on the methodology of journal writing. The students will also be informed about academic essay writing, essay structure, referencing etc. We have already communicated with the CAP concerning the arrangement of our Staff Development Seminars for the academic year 2009-2010

It is prioritized students to receive the depth understanding of how each separate piece of work of the programme can link together to form a puzzle, to function as a whole. Based on the philosophy of the programme that is mentioned in the validation document, the new Programme Leader Kostas Vantzos will have the overall co- ordination of the 3 year programme (2 year IVT programme in acting & the 3rd degree year), as well as for the tutors and assignments. Besides there will be a basic core of permanent staff, supported by visitor lecturers who will teach during the next academic year under the supervision of PL & Prof. Ana Sanchez- Colberg. It has already been arranged video conferences between QMU & AMC Staff & Students in order to be enharmonised with QMU standards.

2 Staff Meetings with new cohort, PL Kostas Vantzos & Magdalene Remoundou (Head of International Office) have already completed in order to induct them. Ongoing

Issues: Students raised the issue of inadequate place for their lessons which take place in the premises of the Educational Organisation AKMI in Hamilton Street. , . They feel cut-off from the other students of AKMI Art Academy, since classes of the first two years in Acting take place in different premises 500 metres further. Moving place at this point is not possible for operational reasons. studio 130 2, , . 500 A. This issue was handled since it was made clear to students that they can attend some extra modules which are taught in the Academy classrooms (in other premises close to their placement). The module for which was shown great interest is Dramaturgy taught by Kostas Georgousopoulos, distinguished professor in the Public University of Athens, approved and well-known theatre reviewer. Preparing a Performance . The second issue that was raised concerns the cleanliness and order in the places where their lessons take place. This particular site is also used by the students of the AKMI departments of Film & TV Directing in times that do not fall with the cleanliness crew. The action that was decided to be taken is to assign a caretaker who will be responsible for the order and cleanliness of the classrooms. The students Andreas Fylaktou Paris Mantopoulos

BA in Performing Arts MINUTES OF STAFF STUDENT CONSULTATIVE MEETINGS WINTER SEMESTER 2008- 2009 2nd SSCC MEETING 25/11/2008 Members of the meeting STUDENTS Andreas Fylaktou Paris Mantopoulos YEAR TUTORS Olivia Pallikari, Course Leader Thanasis Theologis Nikos Charalambous Issues: Students asked for extra help in the process of creating the journals for the module Preparing a Performance-Modern Play. Although, there had been special lectures on essay and journal writing and the processes they have to follow for an effective journal by Olivia Pallikari according to QMU regulations and support, during which she had also analysed the programmes regulations, the programme team concluded that extra tutorials have to take place in order to give the students answers to their questions. Students engaged to fully participate since there were many absences in the first set of lectures. Olivia Pallikari, course leader, will lead these tutorials. The first tutorial will take place on Friday 5/12/2008 and depending on the students needs more will be scheduled. Students also expressed on behalf of all the students of the BA in Performing Arts their discontent with the collage of the short-stories and theatrical plays by Anton Chekhov which was chosen to be staged in the frameworks of the module Preparing a Performance Modern Play. The students discontent focuses on the fact that a collage of scenes or one-act plays does not allow them to anticipate and enhance their role during the play. The staff committee noted that it was not possible to change the play in the middle of the semester. , , . Then, it was chosen according to the students number and the company they constitute. Furthermore, there are many absences by the students which in the case of choosing a self-contained theatrical play, they hinder even more the educational procedures.

Students also noted the need to have some more lessons in movement and voice since they feel that they are not supplied with adequate knowledge. This happens due to the fact that the students have not received the same training by the same educational institution during their previous studies. The content of the modules of the current programme has been formed taking as granted that the movement and voice lessons have been completed. Despite the fact that the students, who have come from other educational institutions, have sat for entry examinations and the Art Academy students have successfully completed their attendance. Since the students are not confident with their skills, the programme team was bound to organize some seminars in order to satisfy the studentss needs. It was also remarked that the students should participate in all the seminars that are given by the visiting lecturers who are specialized in the different fields of performing art and which the Art Academy has already organized and scheduled for the whole academic year. These seminars can meet the students requirements. Paris Mantopoulos

BA in Performing Arts MINUTES OF STAFF STUDENT CONSULTATIVE MEETINGS WINTER SEMESTER 2008- 2009 3d SSCC MEETING 12/01/2009 Members of the meeting STUDENTS Andreas Fylaktou Paris Mantopoulos YEAR TUTORS Olivia Pallikari, Course Leader Nikos Charalambous Thanasis Theologis Kostas Filippoglou Issues: During this meeting, the programme team discussed the seminar courses led by Mr. Filippoglou (kinesiology improvisation) and Mrs. Koskina (introduction to musical) which were organized to meet the students relevant requirements. Students were generally satisfied although they expressed their wish to have such elements on the curriculum of their programme. The programme team committed themselves to organize differently the educational procedure of the spring semester module Preparing a Performance-Ancient Drama. The second issue that was raised by the students was their difficulty in preparing the third assignment of the module Acting for the Camera. In each project of this assignment 4-5 students had to participate and that was the reason of the difficulty they faced since they do not have enough time due to the workload that comes from the other two modules. Students also took the responsibility for not presenting in the lessons and not being able to co-work for their rehearsals. They asked from the staff committee to accept their request since it is the first time they face this university educational procedure and they did not anticipate from the beginning how they should organize their time. They discussed the issue with the co-ordinator of the module, Mr. Sevastikoglou and concluded that they can enhance more the second assignment which is a project for two. Additionally, students expressed their concerns on how ready they will be for the performance of the module Preparing a Performance Modern Play. The preparations for the performance detain them from the journal writing because they are not able to organize their time correctly. For this reason, it was decided to add more rehearsals which will take place in ELIZE Theatre where the play will be staged. Concerning the journal writing, the programme leader is in personal communication with each student. The students Andreas Fylaktou

More analytically: The participation of other tutors (Ana Sanchez choreographer, Marietta Sgourdeou reading analysis & speech training , Yury Stoupel music, Katerina Kabanelli stage design, masks, and costumes) in the frameworks of the module Preparing a Performance Ancient Drama was positively commented by the students. Some of them complained for the work needed for the essay writing that the module demands. The staff committee raised the issue of absences of some students, an issue which, as their representatives agree, creates problems to the educational procedure. The students said that they will try to discuss with their classmates in order to smooth over the difficulties. The staff committee believes that the regulations of absences should be more specific and a limit should be defined. Students face many difficulties in order to organise their time since they are not used to such educational procedures and they cannot adjust to the requirements of university studies. After discussion with the students, they will finally present the 3d assignment in groups of two and not of four or five, as it is referred to the programme document. BA in Performing Arts MINUTES OF POGRAMME COMMITTEE MEETINGS SPRING SEMESTER 2008- 2009 2nd Programme Committee Meeting 09/04/2008 Members of the meeting Olivia Pallikari, Course Leader Nikos Charalambous Ana Sanchez Marietta Sgourdeou Yury Stoupel Efthymis Hatzis Issues As for the module Performance Art Techniques, it was discussed by the programme committee the outcome of the tutorials that took place in order to cover the students needs on journal writing. Action Mr. Hatzis committed himself to organize extra tutorials in case they are needed. The programme leader repeated the guidelines and regulations of the Blind marking procedures to the teaching staff and handed out relative material taken by the QMU site. The tutors expressed the imperative need to be clearly set in the programme document the exact number of absences that students are allowed for each module, as well as the relative regulations that students are obliged to follow. The students absences have increased during spring semester in relation to winter semester and hinder the educational procedure and the progress of the final assignments performances. Experience so far has shown that students intensively participate and try when the exam period approaches. As a consequence, they cannot constructively organize their time which negatively results in the preparation of the theoretical assignments (essays & journals). The teaching staff assumed that the strict observance of the assignments deadlines motivates students, as it was clearly shown in the winter semester. The programme leader will once again inform and remind to the students the regulations and the consequences after the lapse of deadlines. Policy regarding absences
