ANALYSIS Where I come from

Central Idea: The key idea of the poem seems to be that a person is always formed at least in part by the place where he or she is born People are made of places. What does the writer feel? The poet feels happy of doing exactly what a poet should do: realizing something quite profound, and sharing that idea with us in a beautiful, accessible, thought-provoking way. Language: the poet uses a language mostly clear, straightforward for the reader.

Fool Moon and Little Frida

Central Idea: This poem reflects to a little girl that describes how her life used to be, and how she misses her childhood. What does the writer feel? The poet feels amazed by the fact that his daughter is so innocent that her innocence can be compared with the moons purity. Language: The poets employ a fascinating language to achieve repetition and personification, to establish setting and build tension, and to provoke different interpretations of their work. Stylistic Devices: in the poem we can appreciate few stylistics devices, the common ones are the use of animals as personification and metaphor. In the poem they come to live as if they were humans, also objects have this kind of characteristics. An example of that is: A dark river of blood (metaphor) Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath. (Personification) The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work that points at him amazed. (Personification)

Stylistic Devices: the vocabulary is trimmed and conversational, the writer uses of metaphors, allusions and similes restrained. One of the main poetic devices used in where I come from is a metaphor. The whole poem is basically made out of metaphors, some examples are; nature tidily plotted which conveys a feeling of artificial and tidiness. In the poem stanza one is all about the city and stanza two is all about the countryside. If you physically move the two stanzas together you will see that they fit together perfectly, and then they are joined they make up her life. This illustrates that the poem is a metaphor of her life. One of the most vital things in this poem is punctuation. Punctuation is used to slow down the poem.

Imagery: In city nature is at a premium. Nature is pruned and trimmed and carefully cultivated; it lacks spontaneity. On the other in the country, it is unrestrained, exuberant and natural blueberry patches in the burnt out bush. Even though the thickets have been burnt blueberry has pushed through and is thriving. Another instance where nature grows wild is Battered schoolhouses behind which violets grow. Questions: What was the reason for writing this poem? Why did she use a simple language to narrate this poem? Connection with the reality: It can say that the connection with the reality is that people sometimes dont know what decision is the correct to live in the countryside or the city. By using many poetic techniques, Elizabeth Brewster successfully describes the city as a controlled place with routine and the countryside a place of natural beauty. In the end you see her idealized countryside shatter into pieces when she realizes it wasnt as good as it seemed.

Imagery: "A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket" Then "you listening. A spider's web, tense for the dew's touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming - mirror To tempt a first star to a tremor." All these images pass by one after the other. The author doesn't seem to have very much of a reaction to them

Questions: What was the intention to write this poem? Why did he use the suspense to narrate this poem? Connection with the reality: the connection with the reality that I can see is that we have the feeling that everything has come to a standstill, for a moment but Frieda's direct speech breaks the silence and thus, Hughes highlights her innocence. A unique wonderful poem which gets the readers as well involve in this scenery to contemplate this picture as if in reality.
