Whenacontributingwriterisassignedastory,therecanbealotofconfusionabouthowtowrite anarticle,howtoproperlyformatitforprintandsoon.WhiletheWritersHandbookisntmeant toreplacetheJournalStyleGuideasasolidfoundationforJournalwriters,itsmeanttoprovide adistilledversionoftheStyleGuidefornewwriters. Therearentanytipsonhowtowriteanarticlehere.Youcanfindthosewordsofadvicefrom yoursectioneditors,fellowwritersandtheeditorsinchief.Here,however,youllfinda comprehensiveguidetothesimpledosanddontsofwritingfortheJournal. Randomtips: AlwaysitalicizetheJournal.Theisnotincludedinthis. Ifyouvedoneanemailinterviewwithsomeone,thisshouldbeindicatedafterthefirst quote(i.e.Queensisthegreatestuniversityoutthere,PrincipalWoolftoldtheJournal viaemail).Onthatnote,avoidemailinterviewsasmuchaspossiblemakesureto checkwiththesectioneditororeditorinchiefbeforehandtomakesureitsokay. Quotesareusuallyendedwithacommaorperiod.RefertotheQuotessection.

Colons:

Semicolons: Usesemicolonssparingly.Theyreusedtolinkindependentclausesthatareverysimilar.Think ofitasapointbetweenthecommaandtheperiod.
