odays first reading from Isaiah was occasioned by the return of the Jewish people from exile. The prophet visualizes the Holy City as a mother welcoming her children home. The people may now look forward to prosperity and comfort. In this post-Pentecostal season, the Church attributes this sense of fulfillment to the Holy Spirit. Paul, on the other hand, speaks of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the single thing of which he will boast, for it is the means by which we are re-created. The comfort and prosperity promised in the first reading are here transformed by a deepening of the Christian paradox. Lukes Gospel describes the calling and the mission of seventy-two others, who are commissioned to bring in the harvest. The number is symbolic, since according to Jewish tradition the number of nations in the world is seventy-two. This then is a universal mission, a catholic mission to all the world.

From the Pastors Desk

Dear Friend in Christ, I am excited to introduce to you our To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign and our campaign leaders. To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign is an effort to strengthen the parishes and the schools and education programs of the Archdiocese for years to come. The To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign is our biggest campaign ever! After three years, a total of $350 million ($250 million by parishes and $100 million by major donors) will be raised. We reached and surpassed our goal ($242M) in the Millennium Campaign; we can do it again! As you may have heard, over $82 million is major gifts has been raised already. This is a fantastic beginning. Sixty percent, or more, of the funds we raised during the campaign will go to the parishes and forty percent of the gifts given will go to strengthen Catholic education and all the educational endeavors of our parishes through: Scholarship Fund ($150M), Capital Projects at Catholic Schools ($30M), Program Enhancements at Catholic Schools - $8M, Strengthening Religious Education (10M), and Next Generation Religious Education Programs ($2M). Because of the urgent need to repair our church, we have been granted permission that the first funds from the Campaign will go towards our renovation. We will be using our gifts to strengthen our parish by: Project 1 - The new church roof Project 2 - New lighting system Project 3 - New flooring As we begin To Teach Who Christ Is, I encourage you to: Inform yourselves of our parish and archdiocesan goals Pray daily for our parish leadership, for responsive hearts and for a successful campaign Say yes to your fellow parishioners when you are invited to serve To Teach Who Christ Is will change hearts, lives, families and our parish if we pray and work at this together! Yours in Christ, Fr. Rich Milek, Pastor

I want to say a special word of appreciation and thanks to all those who have already stepped forward to say yes!

To Teach Who Christ Is Kicks-off with Information Weekends in the Month of (Insert Month)
To Teach Who Christ Is will kick-off with Information Weekends detailing our parish and archdiocesan goals. With this kick-off in the month of August, you will receive an information packet and you will start to hear of the ways peoples lives will be healed, impacted and touched. When the time comes, please pick up your information packet, read it over carefully and share this information with others. By doing this, each of us will be playing our own part in To Teach Who Christ Is.

Not Equal Gifts, But Equal Sacrifice!

A principle of stewardship is to give as we have received. Some have received little and can give little; some have received much and can give much. But if each of us gives in the measure we have received, then each of us gives like a king! None of us will be involved in the same way or give in the same way, but all of us are called by Christ to sacrifice in the same way. God has plans for you, and God wants to work through you. So, pray every day and always, Lord, what do you want to do through me from my parish and for my diocese? And when we respond to His love and call, we will bring Him pleasure and joy.
