Who we are:
The Concourse Fund is a not-for-profit microfinance institution that seeks to provide consultation to low-income credit unions, financial training, and small loans to startup microenterprise. Based out of Fordham University, were located in the poorest congressional district in the country and strive to link university students with the surrounding community. Incorporated in July 2012, weve made steps to further achieve our mission.

The Mission:
Our mission is to bank the Unbanked and to develop microenterprise throughout New York City. By reinvigorating low income faith based credit unions and providing individuals access to credit, savings, markets, insurance, and education, we strive to not only illuminate a pathway to personal financial independence but also entrust entrepreneurs with the right forms of capital.

You can work to teach people about basic financial principles, show them their options, and give them the means to grasp their financial independence. You can further explore the untapped entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that resides just outside the gates. You can spend your time learning about, training, and consulting local business. You can also take your Value Investing textbooks and bludgeon the forces constraining local economic opportunity. You can discover and enhance our unique triple bottom line lending program. You can assist the reception of the Earned Income Tax Credit while showing individuals the benefits of our uniquely designed savings products through our VITA site program. Director of Development
Did you know that despite being in the financial capital of the world, you actually sit in the poorest congressional district in the country? Do you also know that more than half of our neighbors do not have bank accounts and face limited financial access overall? In response, The Concourse Fund plans to develop into a multi-faceted student-run Microfinance Institution. We will be comprised of three main branches: Consultation, Education, and Lending. To ensure the proper establishment of each branch, we will entrust the Director of Development with oversight of and responsibility for the funding of each program. This is the most involved position of all our offerings and is highly competitive. The Director of Development must be highly motivated and committed to the goals we seek to achieve. Roles and Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive market research The reception and allocation of funding Build and manage a development team Work each branch to develop a core understanding of our philosophy and approach

Requirements: High academic achievement Sophomore or Junior standing Strong written and oral communication Multilingual preferred Amiable personality

What we offer: The Concourse Fund offers the Director of Development a position designed to foster personal, organizational, and community growth. The Director of Development will be groomed to maintain a level of rigor necessary to achieve our mission. Charged with the capture and distribution of funds, the Director of Development will work closely with Senior Leadership, Community Leaders, and Scholars in making internal investment decisions. As such, the Director of Development can expect an influential role in the design and course of The Concourse Fund.

Financial Education Director


Given that we sit in the poorest congressional district in the country we recognize the corresponding lack and subsequent need for the most valuable resource, education. The Concourse Fund plans to offer a full range of financial advisement to the traditionally underserved. By offering financial education seminars, conducting personal financial coaching sessions, and aligning with local credit unions, the Fund seeks to empower the undeserved with financial literacy and financial access. Were looking for a student who is unrelenting in their pursuit for change. Though a financial background is preferred, it is by no means required. Roles and Responsibilities: Conduct market research and develop curricula Build and manage an education team Consult individuals and teach financial education seminars Work with Entrepreneurial Services Director in community outreach

Requirements: High academic achievement Freshman or Sophomore standing Fluency in Spanish preferred Amiable personality

What we offer: The Concourse Fund offers the Financial Education Director the chance to take their classroom knowledge into the community. You will undergo a comprehensive training through one on one work with senior leaders and participation in preliminary educational sessions. With a hands on approach you will understand the problems people really face. You will work with fellow peers, local leaders, and a range of organizations to best address the problems you see. You will also work closely with the Boards of various financial institutions to develop and hone low income financial products.

Entrepreneurial Services Director


The key to economic recovery lies in small businesses. Did you know that if 1 in every 3 small businesses hired 1 more employee, the United States would be at full employment? Small businesses require demand financial services. Microfinance institutions such as The Concourse Fund exist to serve the need of small enterprises and traditionally unbanked individuals. The success of microfinance is predicated on empowering small business owners and harnessing the entrepreneurial drive and creativity of low income individuals. The Concourse Fund is looking for a student who is driven to enhance their own understanding of local business and bolster the business acumen of local entrepreneurs. Roles and Responsibilities: Conduct market research Establish and manage entrepreneurship team Consult existing entrepreneurs Develop individual strategies for microenterprise

Requirements: Fluency in Spanish preferred Amiable personality Fundamental business familiarity High academic achievement

{10 hours per week} What we offer: The Concourse Fund offers the Entrepreneurial Director the chance to take their classroom knowledge into the community. You will undergo a comprehensive training through one on one work with senior leaders, credit committees, and local entrepreneurs. With a hands on approach you will understand the challenge of launch your own enterprise. You will work with fellow peers, local leaders, and a range of organizations to best address the problems you see. You will also work closely with local entrepreneurs and lending officials of various financial institutions to develop and hone low income financial products as well as strategy for startup micro enterprise.

Investment Analyst
At The Concourse Fund, we offer an unprecedented participation lending program. Participations are simply loans made by multiple institutions to one borrower. In our case, we exclusively focus on small business loans. Loans are originated at one location and portions are sold to other institutions in the city. Essentially participation allows for wealth redistribution across the city, reinvigorating financial institutions, and spurring their ability to invest in microenterprises. Eventually, participation lending seeks to empower financial institutions to bank the unbanked. Our participation lending program is the main source of income for the many low income credit unions within the City of New York. The investment portfolio consists of Small Business Administration backed loans and totals nearly $1,000,000. As the program has grown tremendously over the past year, we are looking for team of students to manage the distribution of funds. Roles and Responsibilities: Handle incoming borrowing requests Monitor and report loan performances Conduct impact analysis of each loan and the entire portfolio Gain a full understanding of the loan underwriting procedure

Requirements: High academic achievement Strong analytical skills Interests and/or experience in small business Familiarity with fundamental business concepts

You will undergo a comprehensive training through one on one work with senior leaders, credit committees, and local entrepreneurs. With a hands on approach you will understand the importance of triple bottom line analytics. You will work with fellow peers and institutions to make three pronged and value investment decisions.

Tax Specialist
At The Concourse Fund, we offer the chance to practice a true life skill, the preparation of taxes. Have you ever walked down the block and wondered why so much real estate is devoted to tax preparation? Its just demand, people have to pay taxes and need help. Often these preparation spots are unreliable, costly, and prey upon those who cant afford to be. Through our IRS sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance {VITA} program you can prepare taxes. Down the road at Bethex Federal Credit Union, they churn out over 3,000 individuals taxes a year, accurately, and all for free! Bethexs program is fantastic, but not enough. As the Tax Specialist, you will be trained in tax preparation at Bethex FCU, prepare taxes, and build a force of students armed with calculators to initiate more VITA sites within traditional financial institutions. Roles and Responsibilities: Learn tax preparation Prepare individual taxes Promote and develop affordable financial services Work with and build a Tax Team

Requirements: High academic achievement Amiable personality {Spanish preferred but not required} Strong analytical skills Interests and/or experience in tax or banking the unbanked

{10 hours per week} What we offer: The Concourse Fund offers Tax Specialists the chance to take their classroom knowledge into the community. You will actively engage in tax preparation through training and practice. We offer the chance to understand the importance of the earned income tax credit and provide a platform for you to literally bank the unbanked. You will be surrounded by a collegial environment and a team of peers inclined to solve the problems you uncover.
