Assignments

You will be required to submit five assignments during the study period that will contribute to your final grade. The Assignments are done online and are located on the Unit Homepage in the Assessments section. The Assignments also serve as a learning tool so it is important for you to attempt the assignment questions independently. In this way you will derive maximum benefit, even if you dont get all the answers right. You may attempt the Assignments as many times as you wish. The online system will record only the best result you obtain. That is, no-one needs to worry about failure: Assignments are for learning. When making multiple attempts you may find that the questions vary as each assignment is compiled randomly from a set of questions for each study block. This can help give you more practice. When assignments are submitted, you are able to view your answers and the correct answers immediately (see (h) of How to Study this Unit). We hope this will enable you to more readily clarify any areas with which you may have had difficulty (however you should consult your Unit Coordinator if you need further help). Note that the Assignments will available for the entire study period and you cannot submit your answers for assessment after Friday of Week 13 of the study period. For each assignment, you have three hours (in real time) to work on the questions. Starting from the first log-in for an assignment, if the total time exceeds three hours, you will get a time expiry message. In order to redo an assignment, regardless of whether or not a time expiry message is displayed, you must submit the one that has been opened by clicking on Finish and then start again from the beginning. Please note that the Online Assignments are not only designed to teach you Chemistry, they are also meant to teach students to follow instructions properly. The latter is very important for science disciplines because, for example, you can cause a disaster in the laboratories if you do things simply in a wrong order or with incorrect amounts.

Timetable for Submission of Assignments
