Installation Procedure for Intel Wireless Driver and Utility Update

This document describes the installation procedure for the update of the Intel Wireless Driver and Utility. An overview of Driver and Utility Procedure is listed below. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Notebook Model Check

This Driver and Utility update is applicable for the following notebook models. Details of the notebook model can be found on the Serial Number Sticker under the notebook. Wireless Card Check

This wireless Driver and Utility update is only applicable for the following Intel Wireless cards Intel Pro / Wireless 2100 (802.11b) Intel Pro / Wireless 2200 (802.11b/g) Intel Pro / Wireless 2915 (802.11 a/b/g) Intel Pro / Wireless 3945 (802.11 a/b/g)

There are two versions of the Wireless Driver and Utility Update (one is applicable for the Intel Pro 2100 card and the other is applicable for Intel Pro 2200, 2915 and 3945 Wireless Cards). Details of the updated Wireless Driver and Client version as the correct file to download are as listed in the table below. The Wireless Driver and Client Updates are available from www.isd.toshiba.com.au

Export of previous Wireless LAN profiles


Export of wireless profiles is only necessary if wireless profiles are being used. If you are not using wireless profiles , proceed to Step 4 for the instructions regarding the installation of the Wireless Driver and Utility Wireless profiles that have been already been created in previous Intel Wireless Utility versions will need to be exported prior to the Intel Wireless Driver and Client update to be successfully brought across The procedure on how to export the Wireless LAN Profiles will vary according to the version of the Wireless Utility (ProSet) that is installed.

How to check for the Wireless Utility (PROSet) version.

Go to Start/Programs/Intel Network Adapters/ Intel(R) PROSet for Wireless. Go to PROSet to choose Help/About. Check the PROSet version on About window. If PROSet has profiles that are being used, follow the procedures below to export.

How to export Wireless LAN profiles If PROSet Version 7.x, 8.x: Go to PROSet. Go to Networks tab and click [Advanced ...]. On "System wide opens" window, click [Import/Export..] to open Import/Export Profiles window. Choose profiles and click [Export]. Once the export is completed, click [OK]. Click [OK] to close Import/Export Profiles window. Click [OK] to close the "System wide opens" window.

If PROSet version 9.x: Go to PROSet. Choose Profiles and click [Import/Export...] to open Import/Export Profiles window. Choose profiles and click [Export]. Once the export is completed, click [OK]. Click [Close] to close the Import/Export Profiles window.

If PROSet10.x: Go to Add/Remove Programs. Choose Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software or Intel(R) PROSet for Wireless and click [Change/Remove]. Click [Remove] and then [Next]. When Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Installer window is displayed while PROSet10.x is being used, choose "Save my profiles and settings in the current format {Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless 10.x}" and click "OK". When "Remove all installed applications?" message is displayed, click [OK]. Once uninstallation is completed, restart the system.

Installation of Updated Wireless Driver & Utility


There are two versions of the Wireless Driver and Utility Update (one is applicable for the Intel Pro 2100 card and the other is applicable for Intel Pro 2200, 2915 and 3945 Wireless Cards). Follow the below procedure to identify the Wireless LAN card and apply the appropriate update.

How to check Wireless LAN Card on board Windows XP Go to Start/Connect To/Show all connections/. Choose Wireless Network Connection, right-click for Properties. Check General tab for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless XXXX".

Windows 2000 Go to Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections/Local Area Connection (or Local Area Connection 2). Check General tab for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless XXXX".

How to apply the Intel Wireless Driver & Utility update The procedure on how to install the Intel Wireless Driver & Utility is dependent on the Intel Wireless card that has been installed. Win 2000 and Win XP share the same installation procedure. 1. If it is "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN 3B Mini PCI Adapter", download
IntWLAN2100BDrvUtXP2K.exe from www.isd.toshiba.com.au and apply the update by clicking on setup.exe.

If it is the Intel 2200 BG, 2915 ABG or 3945 ABG Wireless card, download
IntWLANABGDrvUtXP2K.exe from www.isd.toshiba.com.au . Unzip the contents onto the notebook and apply by clicking on setup.exe.

2. For both sets of updates, once the installation is completed, "Intel(R) PROSet" installation is automatically initiated. 3. For both sets of updates, when PROSet installation is completed, a "Intel(R) PROSet Setup completed successfully" window will be displayed. Click [OK]. 4. Restart the system for the changes to take effect.

How to check the Intel Driver version Windows XP Go to Start/Connect To/Wireless Network Connection/. Click "Change advanced settings". Click Configure and choose Driver tab. Check for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless XXXX". Refer to the table below to confirm installation of the correct driver and Utility version.

Windows 2000 4.4 Go to Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections/Local Area Connection Click Configure and choose Driver tab. Check for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless XXXX". Refer to the table below to confirm installation of the correct driver and Utility version.

How to check for the Wireless Utility (PROSet) version. Windows 2000 / Windows XP Go to Start/Programs/Intel Network Adapters/ Intel(R) PROSet for Wireless. Go to PROSet to choose Help/About. Check the PROSet version on About window.

How to import Wireless LAN Profiles:


Import of wireless profiles is only necessary if wireless profiles are being used. Wireless LAN profiles created on other machines can also be imported into the updated Intel Wireless LAN utility. The procedure on how to do this will vary according the version of the Intel Wireless LAN Utility that is installed.

PROSet 7.1.4.7 (Intel Pro / Wireless 2100B) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. When Windows XP as OS, go to Start/Connect To/Show all connections/. Choose Wireless Network Connection and right-click for Properties. Choose Wireless Networks tab and uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings". Go to Start/Programs/Intel Network Adapters/Intel(R) PROSet. Choose Networks tab and click [Advanced...]. Click [Import/Export...] and open "Import/Export Profiles" window. Click [Import] and choose exported profiles, then click [Import...]. Once the profile import is completed, "Intel(R) PROSet" window pops up. Click [OK]. Click [OK] to close "Import/Export Profiles" window. Click "OK" to close "System wide opens" window.

PROSet 10.5.0.1 (Intel Pro / Wireless 2200, 2915 and 3945 ABG ) 1. When Windows XP as OS, go to Start/Connect To/Show all connections/. 2. Choose Wireless Network Connection and right-click for Properties. 3. Choose Wireless Networks tab and uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings". 4. Go to Start/Programs/Intel PROSet Wireless/Intel PROSet Wireless. 5. Choose Profiles and click [Manage Profiles...] to open Profiles window. 6. Click [Import] and choose exported profile, then click [Import...]. 7. Once the profile import is completed, "Intel(R) PROSet" window pops up. Click [OK]. 8. Click [Close] to close Profiles window.
