Mr. Summers currently has two K9s, a Vizsla named Scoobie MD (moldDog), which is trained to detect mold, and a beagle named Abby. He acquired Scoobie MD in 2002 and Abby in 2005. Abby was the first dog trained in the US solely for bed bug detection. Scoobie MD currently works full-time in the field while Abby is semi-retired. Doug Summers participated in the first presentations regarding the use of bed bug dogs to the scientific community the first at the Entomological Society of America conference in Indianapolis in 2006 and later for the NPMA Pest World conference in 2007. Mr. Summers has worked as Director of Training and Education for the Florida Canine Academy where he has trained several hundred K9 handler teams under Bill Whitstine's supervision. Doug Summers is also experienced in bed bug treatments and has worked with a PCO that primarily used Vikane gas with residual treatments of dusts and sprays. In addition to being a bed bug and mold specialist, Doug Summers has had various and numerous interesting professions, including: Firefighter, Paramedic, Boat Captain, Skydiver and Psychotherapist. His favorite job was when he ran a parasail business on Madeira Beach. After suffering an injury while firefighting, Doug Summers returned to college and obtained a MS is Counseling Psychology. He worked in a forensic psychotherapy practice for 19 years working with court ordered clients.

ADDITIONAL INTERESTING FACTS REGARDING DOUG SUMMERS: Mr. Summers had a freak and disastrous accident on his 200th skydiving jump. He was trying to help out a fellow skydiver and friend whose parachute had malfunctioned. The incident concluded with Doug Summers "bouncing" off three rows of trees, getting snagged in the third row of said trees, and falling 25 feet to the ground. He broke most of his ribs and one of his legs in three places. None of the 60 skydivers that witnessed the accident thought it was survivable. However, Mr. Summers continued to skydive Doug Summers skydived for 25 years with over 1,600 jumps. He was on a team that won the US National Skydiving Championship. Mr. Summers also has an interesting story regarding a skydiving mishap that occurred over a nudist camp!
