The various components above will be assigned a percentage score and will be combined with the indicated weights to produce an overall percentage in the course. The conversion of the percentage grade to a letter grade is done according to the table provided in the next item. A minimum grade of 30% in the nal examination is essential for an overall grade of C or better. See also www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/e-3.html If you miss a quiz or the midterm, you must provide a satisfactory evidence of illness or extenuating circumstances within 48 hours. Work commitments, holidays, family reunions, trac, etc., are not considered legitimate reasons for missing an exam. If you are granted an excuse, the grade of the missed quiz or midterm will be automatically added to the grade of the nal examination. 1

Academic Misconduct: such as cheating, plagiarism, or any other form, is a very serious oence that will be dealt with rigorously in all cases. A single oence may lead to disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion. The Faculty of Science follows a zero tolerance policy regarding dishonesty. Communication with other individuals, via laptop computer, or other electronic devices, during class time is not permitted. Violating this policy, will result in you being asked to leave the classroom. Repeated abuse may result in a charge of misconduct. 10. Textbook: Elementary Dierential Equations and Boundary Value Problems or Elementary Dierential Equations by W.E. Boyce &, R.C. DiPrima, 9th or 10th Edition, Wiley (recommended) 11. Calculators: The use of a non programmable calculator in Quizzes, Midterm Test, and Final examination is permitted. 13. Exams: There will be two written quizzes, one midterm, one nal exam, and four WebWork assignments. The written quizzes are 40 minutes long and will be held during the tutorial sessions, on Friday May 31, and Friday June 21. The midterm exam is 90 minutes long. It will be held on Friday, June 07, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in SB 103 The nal exam is 3 hours long and will be scheduled by the Registrars Oce, in the period of June 27 - 29. Quizzes, Midterm and Final are closed book. Except for a non programmable calculator, no other help is permitted. WebWork is an online computer system. It can be accessed at webwork.ucalgary.ca/webwork2/P2013AMAT307L20 Each student will have an account and will be able to do the assignments from any electronic device with internet access. All 4 assignments will count toward your overall grade. 12. Homework: Homework problems will be posted on Blackboard at blackboard.ucalgary.ca in the form of worksheets. You are responsible for nding out what problems have been assigned. Only selected problems from the worksheets will be solved during the Monday/Wednesday/Friday tutorials. Even though the homework problems are not collected, you should do as many of the assigned problems as possible. Experience shows that students who do little or no homework, usually dont do well in the course. Help is available from the instructor, during oce hours, and from the TA during the tutorials. AMAT 307 course announcements and other relevant material, will be available at the courses BlackBoard site. You are strongly advised to visit the site regularly to check for eventual new announcements and updates.

By the end of each week, you should have mastered the sections of the text indicated on the course outline. You should prepare for each lecture by reading the text and for each tutorial by attempting as many exercises as possible in advance. Your lectures will not necessarily cover everything in detail; they are meant to guide you in your study of the text.
