Procedure 8. Open oil filling shutoff valves in return oil from seal oil storage tank (MKW01AA151) and seal oil vacuum tank inlet valve before tank float (MKW01AA101) and fill Seal Oil Vacuum Tank. 9. Start one of the Bearing Oil Vapor Exhausters and keep other on auto standby. 10. Ensure AC Seal Oil Pump to be started is lined up properly, i.e. its suction valve (MKW11AA101/ MKW12AA102), discharge valve (MKW11AA051/ MKW12AA051) and recirculation line isolation valve (MKW11AA181/ MKW12AA181) after pressure control valve are ensured to be open. 11. When oil level in Seal Oil Vacuum Tank reaches lower level of sight glass, start any main seal oil pump (AC Seal Oil Pump-1 or AC Seal Oil Pump-2). Note: Seal Oil Pump stops on Auto on Seal Oil Vacuum Tank Oil Level Low Level (xx mm) and restarts on Auto on normalcy of level (xx mm). 12. The seal oil pressure regulating valve (MKW11AA001/ MKW12AA001) in the recirculation line of individual pump shall maintain the seal oil pressure at common seal oil header after pumps by maintaining recirculation of oil. This will result in formation of oil foam in seal oil vacuum tank.

Starting of Seal Oil Vacuum Pump 13. When Seal Oil Vacuum pump is first started, as vacuum builds up in the vacuum tank, there are chances of formation of vapor of contaminants in the tank. This contaminant vapor is sucked in the vacuum pump. If the vacuum pump is started in cold condition, this vapor shall condense and settle in the oil liquid ring of vacuum pump as contaminant reducing its efficacy. 14. To avoid this, close the shut-off valve (MKW11AA121/ MKW12AA121) at seal oil vacuum pump suction. Open the ballast valve at seal oil vacuum pump. Start the seal oil vacuum pump and keep running for 30 minutes to allow it to heat. As the vacuum pump heats up, any contaminant present in the liquid ring shall be vented out. Further, any contaminant vapor coming to pump from tank shall not condense when pump suction valve is opened.

15. Open the vacuum pump shut-off valve (MKW11AA121/ MKW12AA121) and close the gas ballast valve. 16. Adjust the vacuum pumps bypass valve (MKW10AA011) to maintain tank vacuum at -0.6 to -0.8 bar. 17. The foam so formed in the seal oil vacuum tank (refer Pt. 8) can be released by closing the vacuum pump suction shutoff valve (MKW11AA121/ MKW12AA121) and opening the vacuum pump bypass valve (MKW10AA011). This action kills the vacuum in vacuum tank rapidly and the vapor trapped in foam collapse rapidly. Open Vacuum Pump suction shut-off valve and throttle vacuum pump bypass valve to maintain tank vacuum in the range of -0.6 to -0.8 bar. Repeat the process until the formation of foam in the tank has ceased. Seal Oil System Venting 18. Open seal oil cooler filler valve (MKW21AA121) and seal oil cooler vents (MKW21AA261/ MKW22AA262). The vents are to be closed when oil free of bubbles starts coming out of the vent. Keep the filler valve open. Note: Seal Oil Cooler should be filled to water side and placed in service only when seal oil temperature is >=380C For further details Please refer to SOP for Seal Oil Cooler change over (Doc Ref No. XXXXXXX). 19. Open seal oil filter filler valve and seal oil filter vents (MKW21AA261/ MKW22AA261). The vents are to be closed when oil free of bubbles starts coming out of the vent. Keep the filler valve open. 20. Vent all the pressure gauges through venting screws at respective pressure gauge shut-off valve. 21. Open the flow regulator bypass valves (MKW35AA011 and MKW36AA011), fill the oil in lines and close these bypass valves. 22. Select any of the seal oil cooler through inlet and outlet 3-way valve (MKW21AA151/ MKW21AA152). Close the filler valve. 23. Select any of the seal oil filter through inlet and outlet 3-way valve (MKW21AA157/ MKW21AA158). Close the filler valve.

24. Oil from hydrogen side shaft seal shall keep flowing to the Intermediate Oil Tank raising its level. The same is to be observed. 25. The final adjustment for seal oil flows and pressures, if any, shall be done by Maintenance Group after attaining the rated Generator casing pressure. However, any discrepancy during the filling and venting exercise of generator casing should be attended immediately. Reference Values at normal operating conditions: a. Delivery Head of each pump at rated flow 13.5 KSC (when 50% of flow is routed through pressure retaining valves (MKW11AA001/ MKW12AA001/ MKW13AA001). b. Seal oil to hydrogen DP with main differential pressure regulator (MKW31AA001) in service 1.2 KSC at rated oil flow c. Seal oil to hydrogen DP with stand-by differential pressure regulator (MKW32AA001) in service 1.0 KSC at rated oil flow. Note: Stand-by DPR comes in action only when seal oil to hydrogen DP < 1.2 KSC.
