Question:
There are so much thoughts I have regarding this 'If Allah wills...' statement. Please allow me to pose my query in a simple manner. Can someone say something along the lines of 'He did not repent, because Allah had not willed him to do so?' Isn't this statement, in a way, putting the blame on Allah, exalted is He, for someone's wrongs? Should it not be said, 'He did not repent because he chose not to do so.'

Answer:

Assalamu alaikum, There are two sides to everything: a) How it relates to Allah; b) How it relates to us. As anything relates to Allah, things were, are, and will only be as Allah Willed them to be in preeternality. There is nothing we can do about this. As anything relates to us, we have been made responsible by Allah to choose according to what He has explained to be right and wrong in the Sacred Law He sent through His Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). We are rewarded and punished based on the consequence of our moral choices. Allah Most High told us, in order that we may pay heed: And guard yourselves against a day in which ye will be brought back to Allah. Then every soul will be paid in full that which it has earned, and they will not be wronged. [Quran, 2.281] Wassalam,
