1.1 About this guide

This Master Guide is the central starting point for the technical implementation of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. This guide provides an overview of the documentation available for this product. Whether you are new to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise or an experienced administrator, this document will help you find the information you need. Use the Master Guide to get an overview of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, its components, and its scenarios from a technical perspective. The Master Guide is a planning tool that helps you design your system landscape. It refers you to the required detailed documentation, mainly: Installation guides for individual components Configuration and administration documentation SAP Library documentation Release notes
The Master Guide consists of the following sections: SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Overview, which provides information about the key components and how they fit in with other products and the overall system landscape. Business Scenarios for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, which lists the most common installation scenarios and where to go for more information about each one. Business Scenarios for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise
This section provides the most common business scenarios for an implementation of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. The following scenarios are described in this section: Single-machine deployment Upgrade installation Multiple-server deployments Client-server configurations Integrating into ERP systems
Note that every organization has unique requirements, and that your implementation of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise should be tailored to your needs. These scenarios are provided only as a guideline for planning your own implementation.
3.1 Single-machine deployment

The simplest deployment scenario is a full installation on a single machine. For detailed instructions on how to complete this type of deployment, consult the following resources: The SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Installation Guide: Instructions for a full installation are provided in the To run the setup program topic of the Interactive Installation section. The SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Web Application Deployment Guide: Read the Complete deployment section under Sample deployment scenarios.
3.2 Upgrade installation

It's possible to upgrade from one major release of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise to another without installing any additional service packs or fixpacks. For example, you can upgrade to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 from any of the following previous releases: BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 Service Pack 2 and above

When the setup program detects a previously installed version of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, it presents the following upgrade options: Side-by-side installation: install the new version, leaving the previously installed version intact. A system can host more than one version of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, although system performance may be degraded if both are running at once. Upgrade installation: install the new version, then remove the previously installed version. This option provides an easy way to upgrade SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. You can then use the Upgrade management tool to copy content from the previous installation to the new one. If the setup program detects a previously installed version of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise client tools, with no server software components, a side-by-side installation will be performed, and a stand-alone client tools installation program must be used to install the new client tools. For more complex deployments of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, you can distribute the workload across multiple servers. 4.2 New to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0

SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 introduces the following new components: SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise: For more information, consult the SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise User Guide. SAP BusinessObjects Advanced Analysis SAP BusinessObjects Advanced Analysis, Web edition. This product is the successor to BusinessObjects Voyager and is a premium web-based OLAP analysis client for business analysts to run ad-hoc OLAP analyses, and create OLAP workspaces for private usage or sharing with others. SAP BusinessObjects Advanced Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office. This product is a premium alternative to SAP BEx Analyzer which will evolve into a fully-fledged productivity suite for MS Office by converging with SAP BusinessObjects Live Office. It uses MS Office Add-Ins to allow: ad-hoc multidimensional analysis of OLAP sources in MS Excel, intuitive creation of BI presentations with MS PowerPoint, and Excel workbook-based application design.

4.3 Setting up the Connection Server to allow for other database access
After you install SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, you may need to set up the Connection Server to access other databases. This involves updating the drivers for the Connection Server. The following steps describe how to set up the Connection Server on Windows and on UNIX.
4.3.1 To set up the Connection Server to allow for other database access on Windows
1. Copy your database drivers to the following folder: <install folder>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\dataAccess\connectionServer\jdbc\drivers\ For Oracle, for example, you would copy the odjbc14.jar file to the following folder: <install folder>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\dataAccess\connectionServ er\jdbc\drivers\oracle For Microsoft SQL Server 2008, you would copy the sqljdbc4.jar file to the following folder: <install folder>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\dataAccess\connec tionServer\jdbc\drivers\sqlsrv2008 2. Restart the Connection Server.

Release Notes The SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise release notes provide a comprehensive list of known issues with the product. Where possible, workarounds and additional resources are provided. SAPterm SAPterm is SAP's terminology database. It contains SAP-specific vocabulary in over 30 languages, as well as many definitions and glossary entries in English and German. Security Information SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise does not currently have a separate Security Guide. The security content describes the settings for a medium security level and offers suggestions for raising security levels. SAP PDF Usage Study

This document is part of an SAP study to improve documentation. The study collects data on how documents are used offline to find out which content is most important and helpful. Once this key content has been identified, it will be the subject of special quality measures to ensure that it is of a high quality and optimally fulfills customers needs. The key content will also be analyzed to get a better understanding of the type of information that is most valuable for customers. The insights gained will be used to create more helpful content in the future. To enable the collection of data, this document is tagged. However, the tags are only active if you explicitly agree to join the study and install an Activator tool provided by SAP that enables the tracking http://help.sap.com/PDFusage/PDFUsage_Study.htm. Once the tool is installed, it registers whenever you open, close or print a tagged document and sends the information to SAP together with a unique ID. The ID is generated when you install the tool and enables the distinction between total views and views by distinct users, but not the identification of a particular. The IP address is transmitted to SAP, but not stored or used. No additional data which would allow the personal identification of a user is transferred. When you uninstall the tool, tracking no longer takes place, even if you open a tagged document. If you re-install the tool a new ID will be generated. The study will run until the 31st of March 2011 after that point in time the tool will no longer be functional and therefore also not collect data and send pseudomyzed data to SAP.
