Slice of Shoreview Days is ring-
ing in its 20th birthday with a
bang with events and activities
ranging from the worlds fastest
growing water sport to a national
dog competition.
Slice of Shoreview Days, July
26-28, is nearing and will once
again provide family-orientated
entertainment. The festival takes
place at Island Lake Country Park
at the intersection of I-694 and
Victoria Street and has no admis-
sion or parking fees.
This years festival will see
both novel and familiar acts. New
highlights include pontoon rides
on the lake, an amateur talent
competition and an appearance
by the famous cartoon characters
from the PBS show Super Why.
Festivalgoers will also have the
opportunity to try stand-up paddle-

worlds most popular water activ-

Nostalgic events will also com-
memorate the anniversary. The
Rockin Hollywoods has rocked
the fair with music from the 1950s
and 1960s since the fairs begin-
ning. The band will take the main
stage from 7-11 p.m. on Friday.
Other returning events are the car
and motorcycle show from noon-
3:30 p.m. on Sunday, helicopter
rides by Minnesota Helicopters
Friday- Sunday and the parade at
10 a.m. on Saturday.
Slice of Shoreview Days has
brought back the crowd pleasing
competitors from Dock Dogs. The
show received rave reviews in
2010 and 2011 and is now return-
ing with competitions throughout
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The
event is a national competition of
dogs that contend to be the cham-
pion of height, distance and speed
in a water course
The fair has expanded and
improved many events, such as
the photo contest. The contest,
initiated last year, now includes
new and more photographic cat-
egories. The contest is open to

Where Friends
Become Family
Serving Seniors 55 and Older
Devoting himself to the rare
coin and precious metal trade
for well over three decades,
Westerlings commitment to the
customer is second to none. From
their Roseville office, he and his
associates offer purchases and
appraisals for estates, banks, insur-
ance companies and individuals.
My staff and I are dedicated
to helping people preserve and
grow their wealth, Westerling
explains. Thats why The Truman
Company offers personalized ser-
vice tailored to each individual.
Introduced to the business by
his Uncle Truman, a young Roger
became enamored with coins. This
nearly-lifelong passion encour-
aged Westerling to open his own
business under the Truman name.
Every time he visited my fam-
ily, he gave me a coin that had an
interesting history. His hope was
that I would develop a real inter-
est in rare and unusual coins, and
it worked, Westerling says with
a smile.
Westerling visited Minnesota to
appraise a collection in 1998, and
was so touched by the welcome he
received he decided to move both
his home and business to St. Paul.
He currently works with about
3,000 clients around the country.
Westerling is a life member
of the American Numismatic
Association and holds an A+
rating with the Better Business
Bureau.
His knowledge can reassure
people that theyre insuring or
pricing such items correctly. Im
more than happy to visit a home
or bank to review a collection,
Westerling notes. Theres a mar-
ket for everything!
Though old coins appreci-
ate gradually, precious metals
have undergone dramatic spikes
over the past decade in value,
Westerling adds. From 2002 to
2013, the value of silver went up
by 668 percent and gold by 595
percent. Many of Westerlings
customers are currently trans-
ferring individual retirement
account funds from banks to a
precious metal IRA.
I honestly think the prices
for gold and silver will con-
tinue to rise throughout our
lifetime, while the U. S. dollar
declines, Westerling explains.
Transferring to a precious metal
IRA can be an excellent invest-
ment.
Customers will feel at home
in The Truman Company office,
where they might even meet
Westerlings pooch, Sonny, and
his wife, Donna, a Twin Cities
artist whose work is featured
throughout the office.
Curious about the worth of
a personal collection? Roger
Westerling and his staff at The
Truman Company are ready to
help.
The Truman Company: a valuable

Companys collection. With 37 years experience in the field,

inventory.
Roger Westerling was introduced to coins at a young age by his
Uncle Truman, a numismatist for whom the company is named.
Westerling is as passionate about coin collection as his custom-
ers, making them feel right at home when they visit The Truman

Winners will receive cash prizes

Kids can enjoy a plethora of
events, including chalk art in

can showcase their talent in the

which is open to all who are 18
years and younger and live or go

tions are 4-6 p.m., July 17, in the
choir room at Chippewa Middle
School.
For the music lovers, Slice of
Shoreview Days has much to offer,
ranging from pop music to the
80s. In addition to the Rockin
Hollywoods, music from High &
Mighty, Rock it Science, Teddy
Bear Band and Holy Rocka Rollaz
will jam throughout Saturday and
Sunday.
To conclude the nights, fire-
works will salute the fairs birthday
on Friday and Saturday.
Jacci Krebsbach, chair of the
Slice of Shoreview Days commit-
tee, looks forward to the transfor-
mation of the town spurred by the
festival.
The Slice of Shoreview is
a small town for a weekend,
Krebsbach said.
Looking at the 20-year history
of the fair, its easy to see how
its evolved. It started in 1989 as
a one-day festival in the Turtle
Lake County Park in Shoreview. It
has since grown into a three-day
event and has moved various loca-
tions along the way until landing
at its current home in Island Lake
County Park in 1993.
Its an event that has grown
from just one day to something
that is quite major and very well
attended and well supported
by the people of Shoreview,
Krebsbach said.

Can you imagine Slice of Shoreview Days without carnival games? We cant
either. It would be completely ridiculous.
Tell them how
Im defying
gravity!
The carnival rides are a blast for kids
during Slice of Shoreview Days. Parents
may experience hearing a higher-than-
normal amount of the phrase Hey
Mom! Hey Dad! Watch me! Are you
watching? Why arent you watching?!
Slice of Shoreview Days
welcomes worldwide famous
guests to this years lineup.
ESPN and ABC have fea-
tured these athletic stars, and
USA Today raves that these
guests outperform even NFL
Sunday.
These celebrities arent
the typical people who come
to mind they have paws,
walk on four legs and bark.
Yes, youve guessed it theyre
dogs from Dock Dogs, the
largest and most diversified
presenter of Canine Aquatic
Dog Performance Sports in the world,
according to the company.
Dock Dogs shows consist of competi-
tions of height and distance jumping
and timed retrieval, all of which are off
a dock and into a pool of water.
Dock Dogs is coming to Shoreview
for the Slice of Shoreview Days.
Competitions begin at 4 p.m. on
Friday, June 26, and go throughout the
rest of the evening and resumes Saturday
and Sunday morning into the afternoon.
If you think your dog has what it
takes, enter them into the competition.
Any dogs, including amateurs, are wel-
comed to join the challenges.
Dock Dogs has previously performed
at Slice of Shoreview Days in 2010 and
2011, and the fair committee received
requests to have it again.
Everyone that loves animals loves
to watch that, Jacci Krebsbach, chair
of the Slice of Shoreview Days, said.
Because its a competition, you cheer
for a dog, whether its yours or not.
The competitions test the dogs
skills in four styles of challenges, cre-
ating perfect family entertainment,
Krebsbach said.
The big air competition is the most
popular where dogs contend against
each other for the farthest jump. The
dogs run down the dock and jump into
the water, which is equivalent to a long
jump over water.
The extreme vertical competition
is the high jump event in which the
dogs run down the dock and jump in the
air while trying to remove the bumper,
held by the dog handler.
Another challenge is the speed
retrieve. This is a timed challenge
where the dogs jump off the dock into
the water and race to the end of the
pool to retrieve an object.
Slice of Shoreview Days will also
feature a fourth competition called the
iron dog that incorporates all three
challenges in one single event.
This competition is the Minnesota
and Wisconsin Border Battle. The Dock
Dogs event is open to any dog and han-
dler team. Register at www.dockdogs.
com. Preregistration closes at Tuesday,
July 23, and fees are $25 per team for
each competition. On-site registration
is available at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, and
8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On-site
fees are $30 per team for each event.

Mark and Lynn Satt have been
involved with Slice of Shoreview Days
since its more humble beginnings and
have watched it grow steadily over
the years to become the three day
extravaganza that takes over Island Lake
County Park every July.
Their unwavering commitment to
the citys beloved mid-summer event
has earned them the honor of being
selected as the grand marshals for the
festivals 20th anniversary.
It was a unanimous choice
among committee members, Slice of
Shoreview Days Committee Chair Jacci
Krebsbach says. Were so lucky to have
them, theyre always there year after
year and are enthusiastic about helping
us with what ever we do.
Krebsbach says the Kozlaks owners
have supported Slice in numerous ways,
from sponsoring the opening day recep-
tion and donating items for prize draw-
ings like breakfast for four under a tent
at the event to paying for the entire
Friday night fireworks show one summer
when the committee was short on funds.
Mark Satt says he does not remember
which year that was, but believes it was
in the late 90s or early aughts.
We heard the Friday night fire-
works show was questionable, he says.
Everyone looks forward to the fire-
works, its a big deal, so we told them
we would make sure we got the fire-
works.
Krebsbach says ever since that year
there have been fireworks both Friday
and Saturday night.

Marshals at this years Slice

Mark is the drummer for the band
the Jimtones, which has played in
front of large crowds at Slice on sev-
eral occasions. They also provided the
expensive pyrotechnic display one
summer a few years back.
The Slice of Shoreview Volunteer
Committee begins its fundraising
efforts early, which is necessary because
the mission of the committee all along
has been to offer free admission and
parking all three days.
One key way they have been able
to do this the past four years is through
the Taste of Slice, a combination
fundraiser and dinner party held in
February that helps defray the costs
for Slice of Shoreview Days, especially
the fireworks, which cost thousands of
dollars.
Kozlaks got the ball rolling four
years ago by signing up to be the first
food vendor at Taste of Slice, other
businesses followed their example and
this year 14 area restaurants set up food
booths at the fundraising event.
With funding secured for this years
Slice, the committee has been focusing
on making last minute preparations for
the upcoming event scheduled for July
26-28.
The parade route has been set and
Mark and Lynn will be in the front of
the pack riding in style in a mint 1938
four door Buick convertible, waving to
the masses who gather along Victoria
Street on Saturday, July 27.
I always enjoy the parade and the
whole event, Lynn Satt says. I look
forward to running into friends and
neighbors in the park.
Both Lynn and Mark say its an
honor and a privilege to be chosen as
grand marshals and they are looking
forward to being in the parade they
have always enjoyed watching pass on
its way up Victoria Street to the park.
I told my husband that we need to
go shopping if were going to be in the
parade, Lynn says with a laugh.
Mark says his daughter Janelle has
threatened to outfit him with a cape,
gown and scepter.
It will be interesting to see what
they come up with for us to wear, he
says with slight hesitation.
Thanks to all our faithful customers! Have a super time at Slice of Shoreview Days 2013!

Keep calm and pet exotic animals
The petting zoo has exotic animals like a camel, kangaroos and more. What
makes them exotic? The fact that you probably dont have one living in your back-
yard.
I
ts not easy to watch your loved
ones suffer.
So after Dr. Josh Norine, D.C. at Total
Healthcare witnessed his own grand-
mother, Betty Jean, battle crippling knee
pain for months on end, he decided he
never wanted any of his patients have to
go through the same experience.
Betty Jean was an active senior who
had enjoyed deep sea fishing and moose
hunting before she decided to have total
knee replacement surgery at age 81.
But she couldnt have imagined the
awful pain shed have to endure for
months after it was over. My grand-
mother is an incredibly strong lady, but
the pain she was experiencing after the
surgery was so intense, she cried, Dr.
Josh says.
Dr. Josh notes that for some people,
like his grandmother, the pain of rehabili-
tation after knee replacement surgery can
be much worse than the pain theyd expe-
rienced prior to going under the knife.
Thats why he decided to begin offering
a new nonsurgical treatment program at
Total Healthcare in Roseville for patients
whod like an alternative to total knee
replacement.
Over time, the natural fluid that
cushions the knee joints can break down,
resulting in horrible, bone-on-bone pain
and stiffness, Dr. Josh explains. The safe,
FDA-approved treatment offered at Total
Healthcare involves a series of natural
injections to restore that fluid.
The injections, taken from rooster
combs, have proven effective in reducing
knee pain. Surgery isnt the only option,
but most people think it is, Dr. Josh
explains.
Some people might have already
tried this treatment with little or no
results, but Dr. Josh says patients at Total
Healthcare can be nearly guaranteed pain
relief, for two reasons.
First, the staff at Total Healthcare
offers in-house physical therapy designed
to help patients heal fast.
Second, Total Healthcare doctors use
special equipment that allows them to
see inside the knee so they can ensure
the shot is injected into exactly the right
place.
The treatment program takes only one
or two months, and theres no downtime
required. Pain relief can last for months
after treatment, sometimes even years,
Dr. Josh says, and Medicare and most
insurance companies often cover a large
percentage of the cost.
Dr. Josh says he never wants to see his
patients suffer like his grandmother did,
and invites those who suffer from knee
pain and stiffness to call Total Healthcare
to see how they might benefit from
this innovative treatment. Many Total
Healthcare patients who undergo this
treatment report being able to dance with
a spouse once again or finally play with
their grandchildren for the first time in
years, Dr. Josh adds.
They can live again.

Here is what actual patients have to say about their successful treatment for knee
pain at Total Healthcare:
My left knee was so
painful that I had trouble
bending the knee to sit
down or even to find a
comfortable sleeping posi-
tion. I was limping badly
when I walked, and found it
impossible to climb stairs. The shots made
all the difference in the world, making it
possible to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs
and sleep comfortably. Thank you so much
for suggesting this treatment. I had no idea
such a thing was possible.
Linda
I have been able to
do more work around
the house in the past few
weeks than I have been all
summer. My stamina has
gone through the roof and
I have been able to stand
for longer periods of time without pain. As
far as Im concerned, this was a total suc-
cess for me!
