Laziness and any other kind of slothfulness are sins: passiveness, neglect, procrastination,
wasting time, etc. It cripples a person's life, stifles potential, and open the doors to other
sins. To Combat Laziness
Know Your Purpose. What do you live for? Why are you on the earth? God has called
every believer to glorify him, to spread the good news of Christ, to advance His kingdom.
Have you been doing that lately? What are your gifts and talents? how can you use your
gifts in your church, and or community. Study what the Bible says about your purpose,
and spend time with God in prayer. Take note of the scriptures that speaks to you about
your purpose. The Holy Spirit will energize you with God's word.
Identify Your Responsibilities What are your responsibilities towards God, family,
church, community? Are you keeping your responsibilities.
Discipline yourself to accomplish your responsibilities. Cut out unnecessary activities,
such as excessive TV watching. Focus on doing the things that need to get done. Fulfill
your responsibilities according to priority - God, family, etc.
Resist the hopeless attitude that says your actions are fruitless. Focus on God's
declaration of His purpose for your life - think on it, speak about it. For example: "I resist
discouragement in Jesus name, and I stand in God's power"
Set long term and short term plans based upon your purpose and responsibilities.
Example: What steps do you need to take today to reach your spiritual goals? Perhaps set
a daily time to pray. Set specific goals with deadlines for things you must accomplish.
Get active. Take immediate steps to meet your goals. Perhaps you need to make a call, or
send a letter.
Hook up with purpose minded people. Get involved in your local church. Stick close to
those who are active in the ministry. Build relationships with responsible people. Quit
wasting your time with people who waste their time and yours doing nothing.
Ask a responsible friend or mentor to hold you accountable to your responsibilities and
goals. Ask them to follow up on you, as to where you are in reaching your goals.
