Montage
Description: A collaboration of two photos and text to get people to come to the beach for the summer. Date: 1 June, 2013 Course Section & Instructor: Communication 130 Section 01 Eric Lybbert Programs/Tools Used: Photoshop CS 6 Process:
First I found a few images on the web. I then took the largest image and made it the background for the montage. I then took the smaller of the photos and dragged it to the left hand corner of the photo. Using the masking tools I blended the two photos together. I then used the text summer is here and placed it throughout the montage. I also used the masking tool on the text to give the text a slight occupancy. In the right bottom corner I also darkened it to make the join the surf stand out a little more. I used the lens flare filter to give the photo more of a sun beam effect.

Objective:

To learn how to use the masking tool in Adobe Photoshop. To be able to take images and composite them together to create a montage or collage . To be able to understand the different techniques and shortcuts in Adobe Photoshop.

Programs/ Tools used:

Adobe Illustrator

Process:

I first found a picture off the web and placed it into adobe InDesign. I then used the pen tool to trace the photo, to create a cartoon looking cupcake using vectors instead of pixels. After tracing the photo I deleted it leaving the traced image. I applied color to the picture then put an artistic filter on it to give it more of a water color effect. I used the cupcake in two of my logos. For the first logo I also used a brush stroke to create the purple box to emphasize CupCake Shop . In the second logo I used the box tool to create the box and the stripes in the box. I colorized the box then also used the same artistic filter to give it a softer look. In the third logo I used the circle tool and created a brush stroke on the out side. I reduced the opacity, entered another circle with the floral brush stroke, and left the opacity at 100.

Objective:

To learn in Adobe Illustrator how to make vector images. Learn about the pen tool and different short cuts. Learn the difference between vectors and pixel images. Learn how to come up with a variety of different designs for a company, if they were looking for a logo.

Programs/ Tools used: Process:

Adobe InDesign & Adobe Illustrator

I started this project off my finding high quality images. After I had found the pictures I wanted to use, I measured out with the ruler guides where I wanted to place my folds. I then placed all my images except for the one image I wanted to use for the text wrap into my brochure design. I then placed colored boxes and text where into the brochure design. Using Adobe Illustrator I created a logo for my ski resort and placed it in the bottom right hand corner of my front page. With my last image that I wanted to use I first placed it into Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop I used the selection tool to select the parts of the images I wanted to use. After I had selected the image I then saved the selection to make sure I wouldnt lose it. I then refined the selection by bringing in the edges and smoothing out the lines. I saved the images as a layered mask so that way it would go into Adobe InDesign without a background. In InDesign I took the picture and set a text wrap around it so the text would move with the lines of the photo.

Objective:

To learn how to create a front and back folded brochure for a company. To understand the tools needed to paragraph styling, and text wrap. To create a well aligned and contrasting design.

Microsoft Word and BYU-Idaho Copy-spot scanner

For this event ad I started off by scanning images from magazines. Once I found an image I liked I started to create an ad centered around what the picture would best communicate. I decided to go with a hair salon. For this event ad the company is promoting a sale on hair cuts and hair coloring. All the money they will make will go to the Woman and Childrens Shelter. I used Microsoft Word in Publishing mode to create the ad. I applied a gold background for the full-bleed. I used the dark green for the title and used the same color green for the box below to create repetition. I left aligned the text and used a reflection on the title to create a high fashion look for the event.

Objective:

To learn how to use the design elements only using Microsoft Word. To know how to edit, fix and work with scanned images. To understand what pixels are.

Web Page
Description: HTML and CSS web page design, describing my logo. Date: 27 June, 2013
Course Section & Instructor:

Communications 130 Section 01 Eric Lybbert Programs/ Tools used: Text Wrangler, Photoshop, and http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_upload Process: First I made the logo in Adobe InDesign. I used the trace tool on the swirl image, and edited it a little to make it my own. I then added the words Lillys Florals. I then edited the logo in Photoshop giving the image a size between 300-500px on the long side. I saved the logo as logo.png. For the web page process, I started off with learning HTML. With the HTML I created a basic outline, (header, body, un-ordered list etc). After I created the outline and linked my picture into the HTML I wrote around 200 words on how I made my logo and how it represents the company. I then took my HTML and linked it to a the style sheet document or css. This document was made to make the outline of the web page look pretty. There was already a format for the css, so all I did was change the colors of my fonts, and headers. I used the Photoshop eye dropper tool to do this. I also changed the background to a photo by using the image background link. I then added some more margins to create some proximity in the text. I also added another box around my second heading and centered my photo. I changed the border radius to none for my page as well because the background was already very angular, and I didnt want anything to clash. I changed all my fonts to two different fonts for both heading, and body. I then validated both documents using a validation web page. 317 words Objective: To understand the basic elements of web design. To understand HTML and CSS. To understand how to validate a web page. To become familiar with the different codes words, and links in create a web page.

Using the Cannon Pro Camera I took a photo an obscure angle of my recently broken phone. I then uploaded the photo into Photo Shop CS6. In photo shop I resized the photo to a 66 at 150 resolution. I then masked and selected the background of the photo which I desaturated. The broken glass of the phone I selected using the selection tools and colorized it hot pink while also using the masking tool to colorize some of the smaller deeper cracks in the phone. I then resized the picture again to 800 pixels long side and 75 resolution and saved it in a web format

Objective:

To understand the basic elements of good photo taking. To understand how to edit, change the size, add colors, filters, and take away the saturation in Adobe Photoshop. To understand the basics of Photoshop, and the shortcuts.
