Illustrate the racial, ethnic, cultural, gender, or other social categories or groups you identify with and are

comfortable sharing. Select one of the social categories you listed and discuss how this social group has been marginalized or has experienced discrimination throughout history. Describe the relationship between your ancestry and any racial, ethnic, or cultural groups you identified withparticularly if you identified with more than one. Describe a time you, an ancestor, or someone else who belongs to one of your identity groups endured discrimination.

When young and in school children have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, they can learn the difference between them and the similarities among one another. Not a lot of children are comfortable coming to school representing their culture background; this can be because they are scared about getting laughed at or others not accepting who they really are (Robinson-Wood, 2009).What Earl has done not only took courage but also opened a way for his classmates to learn about his culture and about one another. Earl has opened the door for his classmates to learn about diversity and the different cultures that are among us while going to school. As Earls teacher I would have the students complete a presentence Who I Am and as a part of the assignment they would have to wear something that presented where they came from. The assignment could be a book report or a power point. The assignment would illustrate racial, ethnic, and culture social categories; the student would select one of the social categories and share how this social group has been marginalized or has experienced discrimination throughout history (Schaefer, 2012). The assignment would involve the student to describe the relationship between their ancestry and if they or their ancestor endured discrimination or prejudice. I would not tell Earl about my plans I would give the assignment to all at the same time. This way Earl would not feel guilty for any reason and the other students could not single him out and blame him for the assignment. I believe it is important that schools teach children about diversity and all the different cultures that are among them while going to school. Parents do not always teach their children the positive aspects about having different cultures, some parents teach their children to hate people that are different from them. With this assignment they would learn that being different is good and is something that makes the world a better place. They can also learn that there are similarities among them, that they share the same beliefs in many ways. The children can also learn more about themselves and where they come from and the struggles their ancestors had to endure. Once the assignment was over they would have a better understanding not only of themselves but also of one another. Earl could feel more comfortable among his classmates once they understood about who he is.
