Comm 130 Section 02 Brother Lybbert

Objectives:

Apply the design princibles and use of appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve a basic flier layout. Create a project folder with image, logo, and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

I first drew up 4 sketches of this flyer and then chose one to make. Using InDesign I began to develop perimeters for the body copy, title, logo, photo, and DTP (date, time, and place). I made sure to emphasize the title to draw in the eye, then use the photo to create flow to the body copy information. The logo and website as well as the blocks to wrap it up. I was given the content, photo, and logo to create this flier.

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:

I took 5 quality images with a digital camera. Crop and sized the image to a 6x6 at a 150 Resolution. I unsaturated the background of the image and then applied a textured grain filter. I wanted to add some horizontal contrast with the photo as well as the bright yellow flower and darker background. After editing, I placed it on a 8.5x11document with a 150 resolution.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02 Brother Lybbert

Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Incorporate quality images.

Process:

I began with opening up 2 landscape documents in InDesign with rulers on folds and margins. I placed and sized the logo image. I used the lasso tool to cut around the image necklace. I placed images in InDesign file. I cropped to copies of the hands image on placed one on the front and inside of the document then reduced the opacity to 23. I created 2-3 boxes using the rectangle tool and added color with eyedropper tool to fill them. I added a strip of tribal design that was a cropped image in Photoshop. Once body copy was set properly using paragraph styles, I touched up by making sure the body copy or images were aligned properly or not close to the fold. I made sure proximity and flow were noticeable. Lastly I added the phrase in the front of the brochure so I can have something to engage the reader and catch the attention.

Comm 130 Section 02 Brother Lybbert

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers, blend images together smoothly using masks. Learn to use filters and apply appropriate typography.

Process:

I chose a photo online and then one of my own. In photoshop I set the background image at a 300 resolution and left the other as is. After using free transform tool I shrunk my second image and then I added a layer mask on top. After making sure my foreground was black paint I selected the image and used a smudge stick filter to soften the image with the background image. Then I also reduced the opacity of the second image from 100 to 55.Using my brush tool I used a smaller size with 100% opacity and zoomed in to get the hard edges around the picture, then increased the size of the brush and went to a 30 opacity and started to blend the picture. For the quote I found online I typed it and used a color with the dropper from a cloud in the image. I used 2 contrasting fonts as well as emphasizing future.

I scanned an image on a fresh word document and angled it. I sharpened the image and darkened it to stand out more on. I created a 2 boxes and filled the color with the same color as the brownies. The bigger box I angled it so it is aligned with picture. I also created another box for the title with a pinstripe-looking background fill. I used text box in 3 areas. The first was on the brown large box with white text for contrast. The second was the bold title on the pinstripe box. The last text box was for the 3 bullet points of bodycopy. I made sure to keep a lot of white space.

Objectives:

Design a consistent layout for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

I started with the logo and tried to do something that represented me and so found a silhouette of a girls face. I copied it and pasted it in Illustrator and started to trace it with my pencil tool. Then i used the paintbrush and colored the center flower red for contrast. I used groupings of flowers from the girls hair I cropped and copied for the letterhead on the bottom and top of the document, making it smaller and arranging them. I left space for my logo and put my name on top. I typed the address horizontally so it fit well and put red flowers in between them to show the different information.

With the (front) business card I put my personal information first and used the shape tool to place a rounded rectangle behind it. I added more bold black rounded shapes to add some repetition. I used groupings of the flowers from the girls hair hung two sets on the right and bottom side of the card. The back part of the card is where I placed my logo image on the right side. I used landscape instead so it fits well. Using more repetition I added another black shape vertically on the opposite side with my name on it and the red flower.

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use basic tools of Illustrator.

Process:

I began with using the ellipse tool to make a variety of shapes. The circle in the first logo I used the twirl tool under the tool box. The background for the second logo I created a box, applied a Distort-Ocean Ripple filter. After using the filter I made a variety of circle shapes and merged them with the pathfinder and then used the divide tool to start pulling pieces apart. For the next design I used the pencil to start creating shapes and increased the stroke to thicken it. I also reduced opacity. The type for the top and bottom logo were just typed, but for the middle logo I used to different fonts and fit them on top of each other with alignment.
