CALLING OF THE PATRIARCHS

Now the Lord said to Abram, Go forth from the Land of your kinsfolk and from your Fathers house to a land that I show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you. I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you. ( Gen. 12:1-4)

>By faith Abram obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance.

Series 1

The call of Abram was the beginning of Gods revelation, so there was no past history of Gods mighty deeds to strengthen Abrams faith.

DIFFERENCES
COVENANT PLEDGE OF FIDELITY. 1. Abraham cut in half a heifer, a goat, and a ram, a turtledove and a pigeon. Laying the two sides of each animal opposite each other, the parties entering the covenant and walked between this divided animals.(Gen. 15:7-21) CONTRACT > HAS DURATION. Never lasting agreement.

animals signified that the parties would rather die a death as violent as the death of the animals than break the covenant.
a. God changed Abrams and Sarais names to fit their special relationship with God. = Abraham: meaning the father of multitudes (Gen. 17:4-5) &

Sarah

: means Princess ( Gen. 17: 15-16)

b. All males were to be circumcised; (Gen. 17:10) as a sign of the covenant between God and the descendants of Abraham. >Covenant is a commitment freely entered into. It is based upon faith, love and trust in the other person while Contract usually based merely on necessity and legal obligation.. > Indeed, Covenant is permanent while Contract is temporary.

> the covenant between Abraham and God signified that Abraham accepted Yahweh as his God and the God of his descendants and promised obedience to his word. > God in turn blessed Abraham and promised him; I will render you exceedingly fertile , I will make nations of you. Kings shall stem from you. I will maintain my covenant with you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting pact , to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. I will give you the whole land of Canaan. As permanent possession .. I will be their God.(Gen. 17:6-8)

BIRTH OF ISAAC
The name signifies God has given me(Sarah) a cause to laugh. Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old as God had commanded him. When Isaac grew up, he receives the promises the Lord made with his Father(Gen. 26:3-6)

ABRAHAMS FAITH TESTED FILM: Abraham and Isaac

When Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah(Ge.25:20). they had twin sons. The first was reddish and his body was like a hairy mantle, so they named him Esau. The second child was named Jacob, since he was gripping his brothers heel at the time of their birth. through trickery Jacob seized Esaus birthright ( Gen. 25:29-34) and deceived his ailing father, Isaac into giving him the blessing intended for the first born, Esau.(Gen.27:1ff)

> God did not approve of the trick , which Jacob and his mother, Rebekah , played upon the aged Isaac. God however, permitted this to show that He does neither program nor control people. Rather, God works even though the weaknesses and sins of people to carry out his plans.
