This course is designed for both general practice and subspecialty radiologists who frequently encounter acutely ill or injured patients.

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to: - list the applications of cross sectional imaging in the evaluation of patients with colitis, pancreatitis and appendicitis; - describe the role of scrotal sonography in the evaluation of testicular pain and testicular masses; - relate the state-of-the-art cross-sectional imaging evaluation of patients with chest pain, including pulmonary embolism, acute aortic syndromes, and chest trauma, - recognize the pulmonary manifestions of drug abuse and AIDS; - understand the role of helical CT in the evaluation of suspected abdominal trauma; - describe related interventional techniques, including guidelines for handling cases on-call, managing gastrointestinal hemorrhage, performing biopsies, drainages, interventions and embolization for traumatic and non-traumatic hemorrhage; - review the role of MR in musculoskeletal trauma; - review common and commonly missed muskuloskeletal injuries with an emphasis on trauma and pediatric UCSF Faculty fractures; - understand the role of helical CT in the Terry C.P. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 22.5 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that s/he actually spent in the activity. The total credits include 3 credits in ultrasound. Nurses: This program is approved for AMA-CMA credit and will be accepted toward meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal of the California Board of Registered Nurses on an hour-for-hour basis (nurses from states other than California should inquire with their local state board for specific continuing education policies).
