Previous learning/knowledge Grid & Area Referencing Tectonic Plates + Boundaries Mountains

Specific objectives REVIEW Students will be able to; Explain the differences and similarities between fold and block mountains Define key tectonic vocab terms and concepts Describe the different plate boundaries and provide illustrations Resources/materials needed Instructional power point 32 x double bubble worksheets 8 x sets of vocab cards in plastic sleeves 32 x blank A3 sheets 4 x sets of coloured pencils

Time 2:31

Teaching/learning activities Introduction Think-Pair-Share on power point: The Andes Mountain Range in South America contains inactive and active volcanoes; What type of plate boundary are they located on, and what type of mountains are they? (Give Student Y the blue modified inquiry sheet) Student Activity Students to complete a double bubble, comparing fold and block mountains (model how to a double bubble on the board see power point). Students may work in pairs, but have own individual double bubble sheets to fill in. Get students to get their A3 Mountain Ranges sheet to help them. Student Activity Vocabulary Revision Silent Card Shuffle on Geomorphic vocab terms. Move students into groups of four see class map attached. Hand out plastic sleeves with cards. Give instructions for the first part of the task (in their groups, students are to silently match the vocab terms with their definition) both verbally and visually (on power point). Then model how to set up Quizlet on laptop (via projector). Give X (and possibly Y & Z) the actual physical vocab cards to keep. Student Activity Mind Map on Plate Tectonics bring sets of coloured pencils Students to have blank A3 sheets. Remind students to set up a power point via modelling and questions (also displayed on power point): -Our main topic is Tectonic Plates where do we put this on our mind map? - Our subtopics are convection currents, divergent plates boundaries, convergent plate boundaries, transform plate boundaries & mountains how do we put these on our mind map? - How do we differentiate our subtopics? - What else should we include?
