UNITY.

.'9sm

This issue of Listen is showing the cooper ation of Missionaries in Europe with the Gospel Broadcasting Mission, some to sow and some to reap. Their willingness to put all of their energies and materials togeth er for the common cause of winning souls to Christ and his church is a great and beautiful example of unity of purpose. Each is a master in his own field of endeavor, yet they reach out to help each other that souls may be won for Christ wherever they
are found. How pleasant it is for brethren to work together in unity.

the range of unassisted natural apprehen sion, can be made known only by Divine
revelation and is made known in a manner

and at a time appointed by God and to those

only who are illuminated by His Spirit." In English, "mystery" implies knowledge withheld; in the Scriptures it means truth now revealed, in contrast to obscurity in the past. Colossians 1:26, to which you refer, is a very clear example of this. However, in revealing the no-longer-hidden (or partially revealed) plans of salva tion, the Gospel, God certainly does open to our finite minds aspects of His infiniteness
which are beyond our limited abilities to

cite as well as in the many other passages which reveal this relationship. Since the Bible is the inspired record of God's revelation, I am confident you agree it is to be examined and accepted in its en tirety. Rightly dividing the word of truth is essential, but omittmg any part of it is quite another thing, as I am sure you are aware. Please look carefully into the following

In 1945 we began publicizing Europe as a

Mission field. Because of the circumstances

of the wars, it was more and more apparent of this need and also because of the appeal in "My Experience With Prayer" by our foster son and nephew, Merwyn Greene, who was killed in action in France, July,
1944. At that time there were no mission

aries so supported by Missionary funds preaching the faith "once for all delivered." We began to call for recruits to go to Europe after the War and evangelize in Europe. We had some good response to this plea but after the War there was no one ready to go and interest dwindled until very little if any funds were coming in.

churches everywhere are continually "Searching the Scripture" so that they may

They talk and live the Word of God in their social times, in many study clubs or classes where questions are heard and freely discussed. We really had a spiritual feast in all the gatherings. It seemed as though we always had lived among them. They treated us as though we were as young as they or as precious silver, or maybe antique glass. We loved every minute of it. This is a wonderful field for the growth of the church. The brotherhood should help these beginning churches more for almost as soon as they can get a good start and a building they become self supporting. Thus another congregation can be born in some other place by the work of Mr. Kile and Go Ye Chapel. Ob what a vast and neglected field. The work of preaching to the world is a task of overwhelming proportions wheii looked on from the standpoint of the number of people out side of Christ and the number of missionaries working in the fields. How Shall They Hear?
From God's word we have come to under

stand that two elements are important to evangelize the world: These are the preach er proclaiming the word and the people hearing the word. "How shall they hear? ' In the first century Paul used direct con
tact with his audiences and indirect com

munication by sending letters to be read in the churches. Today we can only hear Paul and the other evangelist through these letters and as you well know ". . . . these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that be

lieving that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing ye may have life
in his name." Jn 20:31. From this fact I
THE EDWARD CUTHRELL FAMILY

would state that the physical presence of a

man preaching the word is not imperative to salvation but the hearing and believing
and obeying the word is essential. No preacher has ever saved anyone but the word he preached brought them to their Maker. "I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." Now I am not say ing the preacher is not needed or is not

important for "How can they hear without a

preacher." He is a necessary instrument of God, but his bodily presence on the scene

who have good hearing take it for granted. Not until we face the loss of this ability to hear sounds do we realize its great value. Some people have never heard and they being deaf have never known the good feel ing of hearing a loved one's voice, or the
melody of beautiful music. Deafness is not

work of the church. You and I are respon sible to our Lord as good stewards to evan gelize the world. It is our efforts, our time,
our prayers, our money that should be used to accomplish the great Commission. We

is not necessary to plant the word nor to water it, and even when present with the believer the preacher does not give the

Preaching and the Pen Paul went throughout the world preaching and teaching from city to city. When he was unable to go to certain people, he would use the pen and write a letter asking that the faithful would cause the epistle to be
read in all the churches.

Why all the argument about the preach er's presence? Well, for some reason our people have lost sight of supporting any missionary program which does not directly support a man on the field. There are many worthwhile aids used to evangelize the world and each according to God's word, jf doing His work, should be supported by His people. As an example, if you were to send a son to college and pay only for his clothes, lodging and food you have only half sup
plied him for his work. He must have th;

tools necessary to obtain his education; he needs tuition for special classes, books and
supplies to cover the course of study. Help Them to Hear

one who has searched for the words of life, it is as one who was deaf receiving his hearing and as one blind receiving sight for the first time. This wonderful experience is being witnessed all over Europe today because of a new evangelizing aid which
permits the words of God to reach millions

in nations where the freedom to publish God's word exists. One preacher can only
meet with a few in his life time and of these

only a few will accept his message. In some

cases we have the missionaries but no one

that the power of salvation could be com

the church that stands on the word of God
