Module 1:

Planning Training Session

Module: PLANNING TRAINING SESSION Learning Outcomes: Identify learners training requirements Prepare session plans Prepare basic instructional materials Organize learning and teaching resources Learning Outcome 1: Identify Learners Training Requirements Objectives: Review and analyze the Training Regulation and the Competency Based Curriculum Determine the current competencies of the trainees Compare the current competencies with the required competencies of the qualification to determine the training requirements. Content: Components of the Training Regulation Components of the Competency Based Curriculum Steps To Determine Learners Training Requirements

What is a Training Regulation (TR)? It serves as a basis for the: Competency assessment and certification Registration and delivery of training programs; and Development of curriculum and assessment instruments

Each TR has four sections: Section 1 Definition of Qualification refers to the group of competencies that describes the different functions of the qualification.

Section 2 Competency Standards gives the specifications of competencies required for effective work performance. Stage 3 Training Standards contain information and requirements in designing training programs for the Qualification. It includes curriculum design, training delivery, trainee entry requirements, tools and equipment, training facilities and trainers qualifications. Stage 4 National Assessment and Certification Arrangements describe the policies governing assessment and certification procedures. Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) Components: 1. Modules of Instruction 2. Course Design

Steps To Determine the Current Competencies of the Target Group

1. Identify the current competencies related to the TVET qualification/program enrolled by the target group/individual (Recognition of Prior Learning) . Ask for evidence/s.
Example:
Current Competencies of the Trainee as Plumber (RPL) 1. Knows how to cut pipes Evidence/s

Certificate of Employment as construction laborer in a construction firm.

2. Compare the current competencies against the required competencies based on the competency standards and curriculum.
Example: Current Competencies of the trainee (as Plumber) Required Units of Competency/Learning Outcomes 1.0 Prepare pipes for installation Training Gaps

LO 1 Identify and select materials tools and equipment

Knows how to cut pipes

LO 2 Cut pipes
LO 3 Thread GI Pipes

3. Determine the Training Gap

The Units of Competency/Learning Outcomes that were not identified as current competencies of the target group will be the training gap/requirement.
Example:
Current Competencies of the trainee (as Plumber) Required Units of Competency/Learning Outcomes 1.0 Prepare pipes for installation LO. 1 Identify and select materials, tools and equipment Knows how to cut pipes LO.2 Cut pipes LO.3 Thread GI Pipes LO.3 Thread GI Pipes Training Gaps

1.0 Prepare pipes for installation LO.1 Identify and select materials, tools and equipment

4. Translate the training gap into appropriate training requirements LINK to accomplished ILTR
The gaps identified are matched with the module title of the unit/s of competency and the nominal duration for the training program .
Example: Required Units of Competency/Learning Outcomes 1.0 Prepare pipes for installation LO. 1 Identify and select materials, tools and equipment Training Gaps Required Modules 1.0 Preparing pipes for installation 1.1 Identifying and selecting materials, tools and equipment 1.2 Threading GI Pipes Duration (hrs) 25

1.0 Prepare pipes for installation 1.1 Identify and select materials, tools and equipment

LO.2 Cut pipes LO.3 Thread GI Pipes 1.2 Thread GI Pipes 20

WORKSHOP: ROLE PLAY ACTIVITY: PREPARATION/FILLING UP OF ILTR IN DYADS EXPEC TED OUTPUT: Accomplished Form on Identifying Learners Training Requirements
