2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This project study seeks to design a combination of two different facilities in a multilevel setting structure, in which the ecologic park would be the major facility and leisure facility which will be the minor that will provide people of the community an educational and recreational opportunities. The proponent will focus on biophilic design approach whereas the nature will be invited back in the city through park and recreation. The project is envisioned to be an ecological urban oasis through human-nature interaction, introducing a simulated ecosystem that will balance urban environment.

1.2.1 MAJOR PROBLEM How will be design and plan an effective multilevel recreational eco park in

utilizing biophilic design that will protect and enhance ecosystem, and will promote enjoyment and environmental awareness to local people that leads in a balance urban environment?

1.2.2 MINOR PROBLEMS What would be the different biophilic design attributes that will create an environment that will connect people to nature? What are the facilities needed in protecting and enhancing ecosystem? What system should be used to simulate the natural environment?

1.3 ARCHITECTURAL GOAL

To design and plan a unique and inviting multilevel recreational eco park for an urban community that will conserve and showcase ecosystem that will make it an ecological urban oasis where it tends to relieve stress which is a place to enjoy at the same time learn, sustain the need for green areas in the city that will help to bring nature back to people. And also this will help reduce pollution and balance urban environment by merging nature and

architecture. (Biophilic and Bioclimatic Architecture: Analytical Therapy for the Next, Amjad Almusaed)

1.3.1 OBJECTIVES

To explore, study and apply the biophilic design attributes which include: dynamic natural light, natural ventilation, access to open and/or moving water, frequent opportunities for spontaneous interaction with nature, sensory connections with nature, complexity and order, mystery, prospect and refuge, fundamental natural forms, and local natural materials. (Biophilic Design, Julie Stewart-Pollack, 2006)

To provide appropriate facilities needed in conserving and showcasing ecosystem that will help to balance urban environment. To design a simulated ecosystem that will act as a nature in the midst of Philippine urbanity for environmental awareness of people with recreational activities to enjoy.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESEARCH 1.4.1 Importance to the Community: The study will give impact in the improvement of Philippine urbanity whereas it proves the importance of human-nature interaction that will give people an opportunity to connect with nature. 1.4.2 Importance to Architecture: This research would profit the future researchers such as students, architects and professionals that would be handling related projects, so it would be an ease for them to get information regarding to this study. As we have seen the concept of biodiversity has emerged as one of the guiding principles of the ecological movement. For architects, biodiversity tends to be discussed within the context of ensuring hard wood timbers are from renewable resources. Biodiversity means taking an interest as promoting natural diversity at all levels. Many decisions made by architects affect biodiversity. With this focus in

finding more ways on how promote biodiversity it will enable to boosts our participation in this global campaign.
