Flaxseed Hair Gel With Honey

in Honey Cosmetics, Honey Recipes

Flax Capsules (author Rasbak) Do you have curly, wavy or natural hair? Does your hair need extra nourishment? Well, if you need something that is super cheap, natural, good for your hair, and does a good job taming and moisturizing your hair, then I have good news for you. Ive discovered axseed hair gel with honey. Flaxseeds have been around for centuries and have incredible health benets. The reason is that they contain omega 3 essential fatty acids. These are the good fats that are good for the heart. Flaxseeds also are a good source of ber, protein and a thing called lignans. Lignans mimic the action of estrogenic hormones in the body, thereby minimizing many of the negative eects of estrogenic hormones in humans. And lastly, axseeds are full of vitamins and minerals vitamin E, folate, vitamin B-6, zinc, copper magnesium and loads of potassium. As far as honey is concerned, it is excellent for the hair because it contains vitamins and minerals and it has the ability to draw moisture to the hair.

Okay, so why is axseed gel so great? Lets take a look:

Benets Of Flaxseed Hair Gel

Dirt cheap (Aveda has a axseed hair gel that costs about $22.00 for an 8.5 oz bottle!) Leaves the hair soft, shiny and moisturized All natural Promotes hair growth Nourishes dry brittle hair and scalp Gives great curl denition Provides excellent hold with no crunch, aking, or hair breakage Drys Fast If any of the above sound good to you, then read this recipe below. You will be blown away by how great it treats your hair. So, here it is.

Flaxseed Hair Gel With Honey

Ingredients: 1/3 cup axseeds 2 cups water 1/2 tsp honey 1/2 tsp olive oil or shea butter 10 drops essential oil of your choice, but cirtus ones are more antibacterial (optional)

How You Prepare It

Add the axseeds to a pan of water over high heat, stirring occasionally. Stir continuously and gently when the mixture starts to boil. Reduce the heat when the mixture turns thin and, foamy. When the axseeds remain suspended in the mixture instead of sinking, turn o the heat and drain the mixture through the strainer

into the bowl. (At this point rinse your pot right away because if you try to clean it later it will be much harder to do.) Add honey and any essential oils such as ylang ylang or lavender, if you desire. I used orange blossom oil and it didnt have the frangrance of a strong orange, but a more faint orange citrus, clean frangrance. I love it. At this point, add the olive oil or shea butter. Combine everything. Your gel should be about the consistency of thick egg whites. Pour the mixture into a container. Your gel is now ready to use. You can store in the refrigerator to make your mixture last longer, or you can leave it out and make sure you use it up in about a week or two. Arent you proud of yourself? Congratulations, you just made your own hair gel and saved money, have a better natural product and you did it yourself. Helpful Hint: I did not use whole axseeds, but I used the ones that had been milled and it worked just ne. Just make sure to strain it with something like old pantyhose or something similar to ensure all the particles are strained and not swimming around in your wonderful gel.

How To Use Flaxseed Gel

Before we begin, let me mention that your gel will not be the typical consistency of manufactured gels. Yours will be sort of slimy. Now dont get grossed out by this consistency. It may be slimy, but it will work miracles for your hair. Okay, now that we have that out of the way, you can apply the gel to your hair by smoothing or scrunching it with your hands. Make sure you use enough of the axseed gel. If you dont your hair wont be as nice. So dont be stingy. After you have applied the gel, let your hair air dry. You can even apply the gel, braid the hair loosely, then let it dry. Unbraid your hair and it will be wavy, full and shiny. It will feel soft, conditioned, and your curls will be super dened with no stickiness or aking. Experiment with it until you get it just right for your hair type and style. You will denitely love it and wonder where it has been all your life. How many of you have ever used axseed hair gel? Leave a comment below. Thanks,

Syrene October 22, 2012 at 6:40 pm Ive been thinking of trying FSG , and ran across your blog in the process of researching it. I use the LOC method to keep my hair moisturized when styling and Im wondering is this going to replace a product in my regimen or should I just use in conjunction with the usual things I do when styling my hair? Reply

Bev October 24, 2012 at 1:15 am Hi Syrene: Its best to experiment to see what works best for your particular hair type. Since the hair gel is very moisturizing, why not try it in place of your conditioner to see how it does.

Dee Godley November 26, 2012 at 1:32 am My daughter used axseed gel approximately 20 years ago when she was in college. She had a patch of hair that came out while using perms. She stopped using perms and just used FSG to gel her hair down. She did use a hooded hair dryer and it was very beautiful. We found the recipe in and old beauty book. Reply

Bev November 26, 2012 at 7:05 pm Thanks for your positive experience with the axseed gel. Its interesting you found the recipe in an old beauty book. So, its stood the test of time. Its great that some of the excellent hair treatments are now making a comeback. Thanks for sharing! Bev Reply

Lori December 2, 2012 at 2:56 pm Thanks for sharing your recipe. My question: Do you think agave can be used instead of honey? (Im vegan) Reply

Bev December 2, 2012 at 11:11 pm Lori: Just omit the honey. Many recipes for axseed gel does not use honey, so its alright. The honey just adds more moisturization and conditioning, but youll get excellent results just the same. Bev Reply

Alex December 27, 2012 at 3:32 pm Hi, Im denitely going to try this one as Ive been looking for an alternative to my usual stiy string gel for quite a time. Id like to mention that Im a male and I always style my hair short and spiky , nothing fancy , will this stu be strong enough to hold a fringe and spikes upright for a whole night of clubbing ?. Your blog is great Reply

Bev December 27, 2012 at 6:40 pm Hi Alex: It depends on your hair type as to whether it will hold up for a whole night of clubbing. But, give it a try. You may want to omit the honey because while honey is excellent and will soften the hair, it may prevent your hair from spiking the whole night. I think youre going to love it, though. Please let me know how you like it. Thanks for stopping by. Bev Reply

It works as well on my hair as the old store-bought gels I used to use. Sampada March 15, 2013 at 10:13 pm Hi, What is the procedure to use this gel? Apply and then rinse , or apply and comb? I dont want curly hair , I like my straight hair , so if I just apply and comb will that make my hair gradually curly which I dont like? Please let me know. Many Thanks, Sampada Reply

Bev March 18, 2013 at 1:33 am Sampada: This hair gel is very nourishing, so you can indeed use it on your hair and let it dry overnight and then wash it the next day for nicely conditioned, soft hair. But, most people who experience the best result with the hair gel left in are people with curly or wavy hair because this gel helps to dene their hair. If you want very straight hair, then leaving the gel in might not be good for your hair. But, if you want, why not experiment with it to see how it works for your hair type. Thanks for stopping by Reply

ACE April 3, 2013 at 3:59 pm Thank you for this great recipe. Ive been using this gel for about two weeks now, and I LOVE it! I nd that the crunchiness is similar to a traditional gel. You dont need to use more of this product simply because its natural or homemade. I have type 3a curly hair, and I apply the gel to my dripping wet hair straight out of the shower. Then I scrunch my hair gently with an old t-shirt to get out the excess moisture and gel. I let my hair air dry, and I try to leave it as undisturbed as possible which its drying. My curls come out dened, bouncy, and shiny. I keep the gel in the refrigerator to prolong its shelf life.

Charlotte May 16, 2013 at 3:13 am I just made what is about my 4th batch today. This time I added a capsule of vitamin E, a decent squirt of honey, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of sea salt. The E, lemon juice, and salt not only bring the gel to a nice healthy Ph of about 4.6, they also are antioxidants that make it last longer and the BODY I got with this batch was AMAZING! Reply

Bev May 18, 2013 at 2:28 am Dear Charlotte: Thanks so much for sharing your experience and also your ingredients for an amazing product! You are correct, adding manuka honey will make a more superior product because of the excellent qualities of this honey. Im glad you are getting super results! I just love making my own products it fun, you know exactly whats in it and it is less expensive.. Thanks for sharing Bev Reply Leave a Comment Name * E-mail * Website
