Man+: A Cost-Effective Treatment for Chronic Malnutrition in Guatemala

Man+ offers a fast and effective way to treat chronic malnutrition in Guatemala while providing small farmers with opportunities for economic development. Man+ is a Ready to Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) rich in nutrients and developed in Guatemala and made from locally-produced ingredients. Its effectiveness has been proven in field trials in Guatemala and with RUSFs around the world. In Guatemala, more than 49% of children under 5 years of age are chronically malnourished, and as a result Guatemala loses more than $300 million dollars of its potential GDP due to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, a significant impediment to human development. A 12-18 month treatment with Man+ focused on children between 6 and 24 months and accompanied by our educational component is the most efficient means for rapidly reducing Guatemalas rate of malnutrition.
