morocco Integrated Decision aid System (IDaS)

Project Overview Users

The project Integrated Decision Aid System for Water Resource Sous-Massa Watershed Authority –Morocco
Management, Sous-Massa Basin, Morocco aims to develop a
Decision Aid System for water resource management based on a Leading Company
Geographic Information System (GIS), satellite data and auxiliary Info-Electronics Systems Inc. -Canada
data (geology, land use, land cover, topography, lineaments etc.) for
Partners
the Sous-Massa basin in Morocco.
Université du Québec à Montréal -Canada; Centre
The 27,000 square kilometres of the Sous-Massa basin are bounded
Royal de Télédétection Spatiale (CRTS) –Morocco
to the North by the Haut-Atlas Mountains and to the South by the
Anti-Atlas Mountains. Since 1975, the area has seen extraordinary Funding
economic growth. Agriculture, tourism, and population expansion CSA 464,340 CAD
contribute to increased demand for water and overexploitation of
groundwater resources. Updating information on the water system More Information
will help with sustainable management of these resources. The leslie@info-electronics.com
project integrates, in a geographic information system, an approach http://www.info-electronics.com
that uses satellite images and traditional information as an analysis
tool for better management of the water resources and mapping of
the groundwater potential and evolution.

Final results and impact

The achievement of Morocco IDAS took place in two phases: the
first phase consisted of the constitution of the geodatabase follow-
ing the data model of ArcHydro, after an iterative consulting
process with the stakeholders and engineers working at the agency
at the conceptual step. In parallel the project team conducted the
data collection, image acquisition, and data integration including
image processing and extraction of derived products.
The second phase focused on the actual implementation of the dif-
ferent tool in ArcGIS. Staff from the Souss-Massa Watershed
Authority have been given remote sensing and GIS training in
Morocco by the local partner.
