all naons, bapzing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age. Mahew 28:19-20 The E word seems to have re- placed sex and money as That Which Must Not Be Named in our mainline churches. (Martha Grace Reese, author of Unbinding the Gos- pel) The E word is evangelism. Evangelism is about sharing our faith. It is about showing a hungry person where to get bread. Evan- gelism is telling the Good News. The Gospel is the Good News revealed to us through the birth, life, death, resurrecon and Second Coming of Jesus Christ. This Good news is the news that makes all of our stories possible. We have a story to tell and Gods story is ever interwo- ven with our story. Learning the scriptures of the Bible is important. Learning the sto- ries of the people of the Bible is im- portant. But it should not stop there. The Bible is not yet authori- tave to non-believers. Our story, interwoven with Gods story is how we are able to preach the Gospel in a real and meaningful way. Ac- cepng Christ into our lives is trans- formave. Cheryl Jones Associate Pastor Page 2 www.tsumc.org Tyler Street United Methodist Church www.tsumc.org Tyler Street United Methodist Church Page 2 E WORD (connued from front page) with Christ is real and alive. When we can express out loud what a dierence Jesus has made in our life then we can lead others to under- stand the importance and the joy of coming to Christ. Whether you have been a Chris- an for a short while or many dec- ades there was a path and a process. Think back over your faith journey. Think about how you came to know Christ the people who shared, the events that pointed you to and the things that impacted you. Think about how you understood God when you rst believed and how you have grown. A vivid relaonship with God lies at the heart of real evangelism. Martha Reese. If you have ever been afraid of the E word evangelism - then I am speaking directly to you. If you have ever felt that there should be something more than accepng Christ for yourself and then sing down, then I am speaking directly to you. If you have ever wanted to learn how to arculate your faith, then I am speaking directly to you. Make a dierence not only in your church but in Gods kingdom. Give value to your experience of coming to Christ. Understand the transformaon that occurred in your life when you came to faith in Christ and as you grew. Help others to know the power that they too have and help them to grow by sharing your experiences. This can happen during a WATTS class beginning Sep- tember 4 th . WATTS is our family style dinner, our Bible Study and events night held on Wednesdays. During WATTS this fall I will facilitate a class using the text, Unbinding the Gospel by Martha Grace Reese. I would love to have you join me on a journey to move us from complacency to com- fort when it comes to the E word. The Great Commission, coming out of Mahew 28:19-20, is for all of us.
Peace and blessings, Pastor Cheryl

As part of the marketplace in Athens during VBS, the children were able to visit the Agape shop to learn new ways to serve.
