Background information on MS-13 Mara Salvatrucha (commonly abbreviated as MS, Mara, and MS-13) is a transnational criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles and has spread to other parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America. The majority of the gang is ethnically composed of Central Americans and active in urban and suburban areas. In the U.S., the MS-13 has an especially heavy presence in Los Angeles County and the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California; the Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas of Fairfax County, Virginia, Montgomery County, Maryland, and Prince George's County, Maryland; Long Island, New York; the Boston, Massachusetts area; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Houston, Texas. There is also a presence of MS-13 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Members of MS distinguish themselves by tattoos covering the body and also often the face, as well as the use of their own sign language. They are notorious for their use of violence and a subcultural moral code that predominantly consists of merciless revenge and cruel retributions. This cruelty of the distinguished members of the "Maras" or "Mareros" earned them a path to be recruited by the Sinaloa Cartel battling against Los Zetas in an ongoing drug war south of the United States border. Their wide-ranging activities have drawn the attention of the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who have initiated wide-scale raids against known and suspected gang members netting hundreds of arrests across the country. The Mara Salvatrucha gang originated in Los Angeles, set up in the 1980s by Salvadoran immigrants in the city's Pico-Union neighborhood who immigrated to the United States after the Central American civil wars of the 1980s. Originally, the gang's main purpose was to protect Salvadoran immigrants from other, more established gangs of Los Angeles, who were predominantly composed of Mexicans and African-Americans. Presence in San Andreas. The first wave of refugees from El Salvador, moved to Los Santos, in the quarter El Corona. The influx of immigrants who were seeking housing and jobs, was not warmly received by the Mexican - Salvadorian population in the area and mainly on their own teritory. The more thier district was getting populated, the more they suffered from a variety of gangs and criminal groups. Cas Reyes, who back then was only a young boy had strong connections to MS-13, his father and his uncles where all members of MS-13. Back then no one expected Cas to be the

leader of the Los Santos Charter but now 10 years later Cas Reyes runs his men in Los Santos with an iron fist. Many members of MS-13 where in trouble with the police, they only dealt in illegal trade, from drug smuggling to human trafficking. Cas Reyes knew his men were running dangerously close to the edge, but it was too late. A huge fight broke out in Los Santos those that werent killed where either arrested or deported. Cas was a lucky one, he was away in Los Venturas at the time of the fight but when he returned over 90 percent of his men were gone. MS-13 are famous for a never ending cycle of recruitment, so Cas knew that everything would be ok as he would have the charters numbers back up in no time. When leaders from other charters visited Los Santos they laughed at the way Cas ruled the streets, the other leaders where used to the police and government figures being on their side and couldnt believe when he told them what had happened. Cas was furious at the leaders laughing at him and vowed to run the city like a true Salvatrucha leader.
