HAVMII is now Americans 50th State as of March 12, 1959.

We hope and pray

that this will be good for HAWAII. We take this opportunity to tell you about what your investment in HAV/AII can mean for Christ, New Testament
Christianity, and you. There is before all the missionaries of the Church of Christ and Christian Church in HAWAII, a great challenge to establish a firm foundation for the Message of Jesus Christ. All the missions and churches on the Island are doing an important service in many broad as pects of establishing the Church of Christ. Vie feel that this makes your mission dollar a "well-spent" dollar wherever it goes on the Island. There is also the opportunity and privilege for us to work together with all the other workers for the advancement of the total work as a unit seeking to bring to people here, Jesus Christ, The ministers meet once a month for encouragement and 'fellowship, and the planning of various events such as camp. The churches have singspirations at regular intervals. The next one is to be held at MAKAHA, May 1st. Island wide youth rallies are held every three months on a Sunday afternoon. We just had one April 5th, in which MAKAHA, coming up from "0", brought home the attendance trophy with twelve young people present. Summer and Christmas camps are a regular feature of the churches also. During the summer there is a week for the Seniors and a week for the Juniors. A three day camp is held for Seniors during the Christmas vacation. All these things permit fellowship and the opportunity of keeping the various churches in touch with each other. To gether growth in Christian Living is increased for all, adults and youth.

America is a Christian nation. Its 50th State is not and it has a long way to go. There are gathered here people from eleven-plus different countries all of which are missionary supplied lands. HAV/AII needs your support - And we at MAKAHA have a work to do. WE ASK YOU TO CONSIDER V/HAT YOUR INVESTMENT MEANS FOR CHRIST, NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIANITY, YOU, AND THE LORD'S V/ORK AT MAKAHA, HAWAII'S Om "VALLEY OF THE SUN".

Un

doubtedly you have been bombarded with various and sundry propaganda bits concerning Hawaii - "Paradise of the Pacific". We thought it appropriate

on this our first Hawaii Anniversary (seven weeks ago), to place before you the scope of mission work confronting us all, as presented to us by
Hawaiian conditions. As we have attempted to point out in previous pro

gramming, the situation here is unique - in its culture, its problems, its
successes and disappointments. In a sense the picture is paradoxical. Sleek advertising calls these Islands the "Paradise of the Pacific", haven

of "splendor".
these:

For the Gospel of Christ it is a haven of godlessness bol

Oriental (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) Buddhism grounded in a modern atmosphere of Americanism, unlike that of Japan itself, composes a large percentage of belief; Idolatrous Roman Catholicism among three other high percentage races (Puerto Rican, Portugese, Filipino, etc.-These three home

Other problems are found in such things as land and building costs, and ^nvirrg trosts;^Propertyha 5"-"s-oared-tro"unb-elievable -value. - The price. can- be

anywhere from 65^ to ,^2.00 per sq. ft. (Our "little over" half-acre is valued at )l6,000 - about 70^ per sq. ft.). Building costs are ridi&ulously
high-priced and completely out of proportion to Mainland costs. Needless to say general living cost s run 2O5S to 30% higher, i.e., milk-32(^'per qt., lettuce-35^i per lb., good hamburger^75^ per lb._, reg. gas-42^ per gal,,etc Some items run 50-60^ high er. These illustrations merely point out some of the obstacles that must be met in establishing churches her'e.

The purpose of this is to emphasize the need for patience and faithfulness on the part of both missionary and "home front". A great amount of petsonal prayer is heeded for HA'JAII and God's laborers here. Sometimes these problems tax the spiritual and mental capacity of those dealing with them. Constantly we see our own need for greater faith and seek more to do God's
Will. All this is true of MAiCAHA - We need your prayers, support, VISIONCONCERN for MAKAHA and ALL HA'/AII - to petition constantly before God that
