Scenario Building Workshop and Multi-Stakeholders Dialogue in Campo Siete
Around 40 members of the Campo Siete forest community and other stakeholders from the government and civil society converged at the Campo Siete, Minglanilla, Cebu barangay chapel on May 18, 2011 to participate in the "Scenario Building Workshop and MultiStakeholders Dialogue" organized by RCE Cebu. The activity was with the support and guidance of Japan-based Institute of Global Environment and Society (IGES). Prior to the workshop, RCE Cebu conducted case study visits and initiated dialogues and interviews with the community and other stakeholders. The scenario building exercise in Campo Siete tried to address two key points in overcoming the challenges of social justice, poverty alleviation and sustainable forest management in the area: (1) multisectoral participation and dialogue, and (2) commitment to a shared future. The activity was among five case studies supported by IGES which are intended to outline the key factors for effective decision making at the national level regarding adaptation to climate change, and intended to become one of the inputs to support the Rio + 20 process. ###
Roundtable Conference on Initiatives and Best Practices in Sustainability and Resiliency of Local Communities
RCE Cebu gathered pioneers and leaders in the local communities in a roundtable conference that pooled together and shared the best practices and initiatives of different stakeholders in the community in sustainability and disaster risk management. It was dubbed, "A Roundtable Conference/Sharing on Initiatives and Best Practices in Sustainability and Resiliency of Local Communities" and was held on April 30, 2012 at the Rajah Hall, Rajah Park Hotel, Cebu City. The conference was supported by the Center for Participatory Governance (CPAG) and the Partnership of Philippine Support Service Agencies (PHILSSA). With around 50 participants, the conference shared with different stakeholders and actors local knowledge, initiatives and journeys of leading local communities and organizations engaged in disaster risk management and sustainable development. The participants were expected to understand better the urgency of sustainable development governance in the face of climate change-induced disaster. ###
RCE Cebu, with its incoming new set of officers and Board, is faced with the challenge of broadening and strengthening its network in Cebu as the island responds to climate change.

A Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) is thought as a network that is designed to strengthen the collaboration for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) among regional and local actors. (UNU, 2009) RCE Cebu aims to create an active, stable, regional resource and communication center and network to document, disseminate, and share the urgent need for, as well as the best practices and responses related to ESD, on poverty alleviation, responsive governance, environment and gender
issues, among others. With the University of the Philippines Cebu as central node and secretariat, RCE Cebu aims to form a multi-sectoral network of partners and stakeholders from the academe, civil society, youth, differently-abled, local government units and agencies, business and media, among others. RCE-CEBU is organized as a non-stock, non-profit corporation duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is acknowledged by United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS). UNU-IAS serves as the Global RCE Service Center that unites all RCEs globally into an overarching umbrella for the promotion of education for sustainable development.
