Akron-Canton Transplant Recipients

2013/14 Schedule of Events


Monthly meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at Education Building A at the North Canton Medical Center. Lifebanc August 3rd Gift of Life Walk & Run August 3rd at Blossom Music Center. Join Amandas or Rosie & Pats team or Alison Werstlers Hearts for Ray Stiles and support Lifebanc. Celebration of Life Picnic, August 11th from noon to 4:00 at the John Torok Community Center, Green, Ohio. November 16th to 24th Akron Childrens Hospital Holiday Tree Festival at John S Knight Center. Please contact Rosie or Sue if you have a tree or items for this years cowboy theme tree. Holiday Celebration of Life Dinner on December 17th from 6:30 to 9:00 at NCMC. Donor recognition will be followed by dedication of ornaments by organ recipients or their loved ones. OrganDonorSabbath on April 25, 2014 at 7:30 at Akron Temple Israel. This will be the 5th annual service sponsored by Micki Wise and the Wise Family in memory of Bernard Wise. Report - Annual Members Meeting At the July 16th meeting, the members affirmed the members of the Board of Directors and elected Rosie Price as Vice President replacing our friend Bruce Hord. Akron Canton TRIOs Board and Officers for 2013 2014 will be: Chairperson of the Board: Rosie Price Vice Chairperson of the Board: Pat Summers Directors: Randy Pelton Jacqui Scolaro Co-Presidents: Nancy & Walter Hinkel Vice President: Rosie Price Secretary: Mary Fread Treasurer: Richard Samoila Mary Fread reviewed the chapters financial status and we are solvent. The members agreed to contribute $1000.00 to TRIO Nationals scholarship fund.

Lifebanc Gift of Life Walk & Run on Saturday August 3rd at Blossom Music Center Akron Canton TRIO will have three teams this year sponsored by TRIO members. This will be the forth year for Amanda Goodwins Race for Amanda team and the second year for Rosie Prices and Pat Summers team, the Kidney Kats. Alison Werstler has started a new team, Hearts for Ray Stiles. Information on how you can join a team or contribute to a team for this years event can be found at:

New Items in the AC TRIO Library Several new DVDs have been added to our library: Finding Meaning in Death: Life as an Organ Donor Specialist by Stephanie Dziedzic, (Gift of Hope) described the life of a donation specialist. Her experiences were personalized by the death and organ donation by her sisterin-law, Lynn, who became a Hero with Hope beyond Death. Xenotransplantation: Hope for the Future UPMS Researcher David Cooper, MD, PhD, FRCS described the efforts to develop a genetically compatible pig (aka Frankenswine) cross species that can serve as an organ donor. Gene Technology: Bio Markers in Healthcare by David Bull, VP Marketing, XDx Corporation described XDxs efforts to develop a noninvasive (blood sample) gene based test method to indicate potential rejection and drug effectiveness A total of 48 informational DVDs from TRIO National, 2 transplant themed books and 1 transplant based DVD movie can be checked out at our monthly meetings. TRIO Celebration of Life Picnic August 11, 2013 We will gather at the John Torok Community & Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road (route 241 by the fire station and south of the new traffic circle), Green, Ohio 44232. The Picnic is from 12:00PM to 4:00PM. Hot dogs and buns will be provided by TRIO. Thank you to Vicki from Sugardale Freshmark Meats for providing the hot dogs since 1992. Thank you to Schwebel baking for providing the hot dog buns. Everyone is welcome and please bring a covered dish for the pot luck picnic table. Please tell Mary Fread or Nancy & Walt Hinkel how many of your friends and family will attend and what covered dish you are planning to bring.
