BREAKING CHRISTIANWITCHCRAFT we all have some sense of whatwitchcraft is.

Some equatewitchcraft with Halloween, Jack-olanterns,caped women atop broom sticks, Wicca, or even Dorothys Wizard of OZ archenemy.The bestselling books and movieschronicling the adventures of Harry Potter continue to sanction witchcraft in our society through casting spells and mixingpotions, while presenting a great sagabetween good and evil witches. W 5 And, of course, who could forget theever so popular video game Dungeons andDragons, the fantasy role playing gamewhere players engage dark forces with their magical powers.Even though witchcraft is oftenportrayed as innocent, it is strictly forbiddenin the Word of God (Deuteronomy 18:9-14,Leviticus 19:31, 20:6; Isaiah 8:19).Regardless of what some think,witchcraft opens the door to demonic forces.Package them in the latest fashion or present them on Hollywoods silver screen,but there are no such things as gooddemonic powers. Jesus said, The thief cometh not, but for to steal,and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10). It would be best for all to take heed to His Word.Witchcraft is a bona fide demonic power released through various activities such aswords, spells, amulets, charms, occultpowers, chants, magic, drugs, potions, or directive prophecies. It's far more thanmeeting in a forest to worship Mother Earthand hugging pine trees. Witchcraft is apower that influences people, gives a placeto demon activity, battles against the mindsof men, challenges the Church of JesusChrist, buffets the maturity of believers,hinders church growth, comes againstfamilies, marriages and relationships, andfrustrates the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.Witchcraft, however, is more commonthat one would think. I want to break awayfrom the traditional look at witchcraft andexplore some other manifestations of this 7 evil force. I know a true born again believer would never cast a spell or drink a potion,but could there be other forms of witchcraftmentioned in the Bible? Can a Christianoperate in witchcraft? Lets take a look atwitchcraft operations from a differentperspective, through the old fallen nature the flesh. Bewitched, Spirit and Flesh Christian witchcraft can be releasedthrough the rebellious and the stubborn,both actions described in the Word of Godas workings of the flesh. Scripture says, O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you,Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so 8 foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (Galatians 3:1-3). Notice the words bewitched, spirit andflesh. The word bewitched, Greek baskaino ,means to be charmed, seduced, or to beplaced under a spell. In the Old Englishlanguage bewitched comes from the word biwiccian , meaning the working or theresult of Wicca sorcery. The writer of Galatians ties witchcraft to the manifestingor workings of the flesh. The meaning of flesh in this scripture is the Greek word sarx , meaning the carnal mind, or better described as the earthly nature of man apartfrom the Spirit of God. A person, therefore,who is governed by the actions of the flesh (sarx), can release witchcraft upon himself or others. No, he or she doesnt become aWiccan recruit, but,

nevertheless, like theGalatians, enters into a foolish and illusory 9 area of life. The works of the flesh, tempertantrums, bad attitudes, negative bodylanguage, stubbornness, and negativewords and confessions are all workingsof witchcraft. I told you this would be adifferent viewpoint on witchcraft. That Old Sarx Have you ever been around a personwhose negative body language, tone of voice, stubbornness, or contentious attitudemade you feel like you were walking oneggshells around them? Or his or her actionsmade you feel like he or she would lash outat you at any moment? Did you get a sickfeeling in the pit of your stomach? Couldthat feeling be the result of a subtle form of witchcraft emanating from the flesh (sarx)! Even though nothing much was said, did 10 you still feel some sort of force emanatingfrom the person? Did you understand thenonverbal message? That subtle force fromthe flesh (sarx) is a form of witchcraft. Thewriter who corrected the foolish Galatians,the Apostle Paul didnt stop there to makethis plain to us. He said, Now the works of the flesh ( sarx ) are manifest, which are these; adultery,fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness (unbridled lust), idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,variance (contention), emulations (jealous rivalry), wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings (evil carousing), and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.(Galatians 5:19-21). Here Paul directly connects the works of the flesh with witchcraft, concluding thatthose who do (intentionally practice) such 11

things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.The works of the flesh, temper tantrums, bad attitudes, negative bodylanguage, stubbornness, and negative wordsand confessions are all workings of witchcraft. I told you this would be adifferent viewpoint on witchcraft. Now youcan see why there is so much written in theWord of God about the tongue (Proverbs18:21, James 3:6). Well discuss this morelater. Religious Witchcraft When religious activity is not spirituallymotivated but carnally motivated it releasesa form of witchcraft, too. Motivation iseverything because its source is the heart of man.Religion also releases witchcraft when it 12 intentionally avoids the ministry of theHoly Spirit. Scripture says, Having a form of godliness but denying the power (dunamis) thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:5). This is a powerful instruction toTimothy from the Apostle Paul. The wordform, Greek morphosis, means to havemerely a shape or to look like the real thing.This religious counterfeit can be identifiedbecause it looks like the Church, yet iscarnally motivated and disregards thenecessity of the dunamis power of God. Thatdunamis power is the ministry of the HolySpirit Himself. Paul's final instruction is toturn away from such. 13

Religion releases witchcraft when itis governed by the flesh. The elementsof religion are a lack of spiritualsensitivity, legalism and debate,hypocrisy, self righteousness, and aform of godliness that denies theministry of the Holy Spirit. There are many religious people in theworld who say they are born again yetattack the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Theychallenge the baptism of the Holy Spirit,miracles, and healing today, speaking inother tongues, prophecy, deliverance,fervent prayer, the nine gifts of the HolySpirit, and much more. Rather than haveHoly Spirit administered lives, ministries,and churches, they hold fast to man-madeprograms, vain traditions, and secular socialactivities.Religion releases witchcraft when it is 14 governed by the flesh (sarx) rather than theSpirit of God. It was religious people,supposedly born again, that persistentlystirred up trouble for the Apostle Paul. Theycouldnt accept his teaching that it waspossible to be born again withoutcircumcision (Acts 15).The elements of religion are a lack of spiritual sensitivity, legalism and debate,hypocrisy, self righteousness, and a form of godliness that denies the ministry of theHoly Spirit. Just get around a person whohas that nasty, contentious religious spiritand you will experience the working of witchcraft from religion. in other areas of life and ministry.Witchcraft often deceives people thathave a tendency to judge what God is doingby comparing the number of people thatattend one church with the number of people that attend another church. Justbecause a church has a large membershipdoes not necessarily mean that the Spirit of God is blessing it. Some ministers think thatthe size of their church represents Godsapproval on their ministrynot true. Thatchurch might just have great programs, or,perhaps, requires no commitment from thepeople, or the pastor or church deaconboard might just be great controllers.You can avoid attending a church that isdeceived by witchcraft if you understandhow to recognize one. You will find thattheir leaders are controlling, prideful andwill quench the Spirit. 16 When a leader continues to quench themoving of the Holy Spirit, that is a signal of trouble. Quenching the Holy Spirit is adirect violation of Scripture. Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 NIV). Leaders that are afraid to allow the HolySpirit to flow freely in the church arecontrolling churches around the world.Then there are other leaders that thinkthey, and no one else, can hear from God.These are spiritual controllers who are fullof pride. The reality is, as soon as you thinkthat you are the only one who can hear from God, or have the truth, you are introuble and great danger.I feel for the innocent believer 17

submitted under a controlling leader thatwill not let God be God in His own church.Many times

these same controlling leaderssay, We must maintain order in this churchby using any means. I believe in order, too,but not in control of the Holy Spirit bycarnal and insensitive leaders. I have seenentire churches fast and pray for a move of Gods Spirit and, when He shows up, somereligious spirit gets angry about it. Its timefor this type of behavior to stop. God willnot dwell long in a controlling religiouschurch. Control is a form of witchcraft. TheApostle Paul wrote, Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV). Fear of Man Fear of man and public opinion is a sure 18 sign of being infected by witchcraft,especially in Christian circles.Witchcraft likes to be in control of every situation. If you will not worship Godin a particular way based on who is atchurch with you, then look out, you areinfected by the fear of man. Scriptureteaches us that being a manpleaser disqualifies one as a servant of Christ. Wemust reverence God, not man. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.(Galatians 1:10). The fear of man affects many people.Some pastors will not preach a particular way, sing a certain song, or even have analtar call to lay hands on people and pray if they know that some district official (or someone who could advance their political 19

agenda) may be visiting. Peter and John hadthe right attitude when they answered thecharges of religious officials. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. (Acts 4:19). Many times controlling preachers willget angry if their sheep visit other churches,even when they have no service that night.Its quite all right for a pastor to beprotective, but not controlling.I dont want anyone to think that I ampicking on pastorsI am not. Christianwitchcraft is not limited to pastoralleadership by any means. Pastors, for themost part, are God-loving men who havelaid down their lives for their sheep anddeserve our greatest respect. 20 Hidden Agendas Hidden agendas are indications of witchcraft at work. Congregations aresometimes full of people with hiddenagendas. Their purpose is to advance upsome sort of imaginary religious ladder.Each rung seems to give them a sense of value. Holding to a hidden agenda is theroot to division within a local church.Whenever someone tries to manipulateanother for the purpose of advancing aselfish agenda that is witchcraft. Those whooperate in witchcraft like to hang around achurches existing leadership waiting for their gifting to be recognized. They lookfor the opportunity to seize upon any openpositions of authority. (Carrying out ahidden agenda is the operation of rebellion.)Scripture directly connects witchcraft with 21

rebellion. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. (l Samuel 15:23). Those operating in Christian witchcraftgain their strength and sense of security bycontrolling others. Without you, they feelhelpless and, many times, will go into deepdepression. For the most part, those under the influence of witchcraft will not reachthe leadership of an organization becausethe leadership will quickly lose respect for them as they recognize their selfcenteredness.The religious spirit and the witchcraftspirit are close cousins. A religious spirit willnot

let you advance or grow in the Lord. Itwill keep you bound in religious tradition 22 and works, not freedom in the Spirit. An Unbridled Tongue The Word of God calls the unbridledtongue an evil set on fire of hell and theperson who has it is deceived. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this mans religion is vain. (James 1:26). If you think youre not deceived, yetyou are speaking hurtful things aboutyourself and others, then you're indeception already. The Word warns howdangerous an unbridled tongue can be. Even so the tongue is a little member,and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth 23 the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.(James 3:5-6). As you wrongly speak negative thingsover people, your words affects themspiritually. You must realize that you, as abeliever have spiritual authority and thatyour words have power to release life or death. The Scripture says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21). Your words should bring blessings onothers, not curses. Examine yourself andtake hold of your tongue. If you are aparent, decide today to only speak blessingson your children, even when you arecorrecting them. If you are a teacher,determine to encourage your students andspeak to their potential, especially when 24 they fail. If you are married, bless your spouse with words of life everyday. It willfill your marriage with joy and blessings. Nomatter where you walk as a Christian, dontallow witchcraft to use you to hurt others or hinder the work of God.Christian witchcraft emanates from our flesh (sarx), it is an enemy far greater thatany Dorothy faced as she traveled theyellow brick road in search of the Wizard of Oz. The good news is that we can, throughour love for Jesus Christ, crucify that oldcarnal nature. Scripture instructs us to takeoff our old corrupted manner of living andput on the new man, which is created inrighteousness and true holiness in God'slikeness (Ephesians 4:2224). So the nexttime you experience the powers of witchcraft it may not be coming from someoccult mystic, but from the Wizard of Sarx 25 the flesh. Let's Pray... Lord, in the Name of Jesus, I first of all repent for allowing witchcraft: spirits to operate through me. Lord Jesus, please forgive me for hurting others through my words and attitude. Today, I choose to walk in the love of Christ and I make a decision to break Christian witchcraft of the carnal man. Father, in Jesus name, I take authority over the spirit of witchcraft and I crucify my flesh. I declare right now that it is no longer I that lives but Christ who lives in me and I live by the faith of the Son of God who died and was raised for me. Thank you Lord for giving me this discernment and to walk in the liberty and fullness of Christ, in Jesus' Name, Amen. 26 WANTMORE?
