a. Sandeep: new chair of UBPC

i. Will improve lighting and will get new furniture
d. Nici: new lighting on campus – fully funded
e. Sandeep: late night funding
i. Cannot commit to that right now, but will conduct studies
f. Nici: dorms that do not have air conditioning, need air conditioning and
they also need study places
g. Sandeep: _____ funded for a quarter and now University will fund it
permanently

IV. Executive Board Reports
a. Samir: we passed that Kinzer resolution a couple weeks ago…the way we
did it was the wrong way and I dropped the ball
i. They introduced it from the floor and said it was legislative order
and passed that day…that cannot happen
ii. That’s my fault and I apologize
iii. No point going retroactively
iv. In the future, you can’t pass legislation the day of: has to be passed
by Exec board as emergency or through old and new business
v. Question: University has made a decision?
vi. Malavika: Hugh told me he’s gone
vii. Jeff: Hugh said he’s staying and taking the lower pay
b. Tommy: proposal needs to be finalized, but we want to present it today so
you can talk to your constituents about it; defers to Lucas
i. Julia: if in 2 weeks, why not old and new business
ii. Lucas: president of IFC and I would like to introduce a piece of
legislation that will be emergency in 2 weeks
1. Freshman Freeze – designed to account for realities in 1989
and those have changed: IFC, dry housing, changes in PHA
with different recruitment standards
2. policy is out of date
3. IFC passed resolution to amend freeze to 2 weeks in 2005
4. 2008 – Jonathan Webster’s proposed to just exist in new
student week
5. Freeze was necessary
6. Effects
a. Safety: moves activity to off-campus
b. Hurts Evanston-NU relations
c. Impression to new students
d. Contributes to over-programming in MGC and
MPHC
7. we’re proposing to cut it in half – new student week plus 1
week
a. Councils should be able to sponsor events
b. Councils should be able to advertise
8. hurts larger community b/c it makes it difficult to regulate
the activity of our members
9. we want ASG to support our proposal as well – will
introduce it as legislation
10. not rushed: conversation has been going on for years and
years
iii. Samir: you can give us an advanced copy
iv. Lucas: proposal was finished earlier this week, but is in the process
of being reviewed by administrators
v. Samir: even though it will be emergency, you have time to talk
about it with your constituents
vi. Beau: it seems like it would be better to get rid of the freeze all
together, why just cutting it in half?
1. Lucas: not a reality based on relations between Greek life
and administration; we want to see how this transition goes
to see if it has a positive effects
c. Brooke: reply to the email to sign up for Scanning Sessions
d. Miranda: you can get your money for the ASG T-shirts b/c we’re not
getting the T-shirts
e. Questions on all exec board reports?
i. Mike: how many applications did you receive?
ii. Miles: 15 applications for 15 seats but we evaluated each on a case
by case basis
iii. Mike: you filled all the seats?
iv. Miles: yes we made 15 recommendations
V. New Business
a. Malavika: Spring Funding
i. To make next week easier
ii. Every student group leader will receive funding recommendations
iii. Starting at 6pm next week
iv. Cut round first, then an add round – can add 48 – 49,000 dollars,
and then another cut round
v. Standards for merit are included
vi. Process will be best if we are all respectful of each other – SAFC
respectful for Senate and for all the student group leaders
vii. Serious procedure…should not be taken lightly
b. Samir: Spring Funding is new business this week, this will be voted on as
old business next week
i. Pretty interesting – packed with all the student group leaders
ii. We must start at 6pm because it is such an important issue and one
of the most important things that ASG does and you, as senators,
are the soul of what happens
iii. Come ready to spend that time and to make those decisions
c. Helen: point of clarification, for those of you who are new, what you’re
reading in there is not true…it is a type of artist at a particular tier level so
please don’t go spreading rumors
d. Beau: funding for next year?
i. Malavika: starting in September
e. Malavika: I’ll be holding office hrs from 8:30 – 9:30 if you have funding
questions
VI. General Order
a. Samir: new thing starting this week from feedback on improving Senate;
20 minutes for exec board members in different parts of the room for you
to talk to based on your interests
b. Just talk about what you can do to voice your issues and solve the
problems
c. What you can do to make positive change
d. Mike: for broad members like president and vp, what will they be talking
about?
i. Samir: they will be roaming around
e. Miles: even though Malavika and I do similar things, Malavika will just be
dealing with funding tonight so come to me for student group issues
f. Samir: feedback
i. Claire: helpful
ii. Dan: helpful, shouldn’t be weekly
iii. Wilson: helpful, but won’t prove useful in the future over time…
should be much less often
iv. Claire: important takeaways are that action is taken on the ideas
v. Mike: great particularly for new senators – good way to get people
introduced
vi. Samir: we also agree it shouldn’t be done every week, but want
more interactive type thing every week…suggestions?
vii. Najim: same thing, but before or after senate
viii. Samir: yeah I see your point, the only thing is that no one stays or
comes early
ix. Mike: same idea, you can break-outs with special topics b/c open
forum might be repetitive…even for Mike or Tommy
x. Samir: if you have issues, we can make that a special topic and you
guys can be on the agenda any time you want…just email Samir
and we can talk about ways to work on it
VII. Good of the Order and Announcements
a. Samir: cut it at a minute for Student Group senators
b. Najim: can you add them to agenda?
c. Samir: a lot of leaders are opposed to that so we’re going to be
implementing new ways to do that
d. Tommy: big announcement, I don’t want to take credit…a product of last
administration but as of September 1st, 2009, GPS Shuttle will go into
effect

e. Ariel Rogers: senator for multi-cultural Greek council: selling Krispie
Kreme donuts after Senate
f. Nancy: Deuce Caboose from MyCat Enterprises: $2 per bus ride, every
half hour, and free red bull
g. Mike Y: do you have to be 21 at the point you get on the bus?
h. Mike L: go to independence going to Spoon, buses leave from Arch at
9:15 and 10pm for free with $10 open bar; 18 to enter, 21 to party
i. Julia: Clash Gordon is playing at that event
i. A&O – a few tickets left for One Voice $5 tickets
j. Matt: if you want to join Student Life, come see me real quick
k. Jilian: Matt, Mo, and I are working on shuttles: presentation to
administration tomorrow so email us and we’ll work it in

ii. Friday: Annual Scholarship Rewarding to high school students:

n. Samir: one-on-ones with senators only 15 minutes – SIGN UP on front
table! This Sunday and next Sunday; email him if that doesn’t work for

groups
